> Kingdoms of Elsarys
- The Divine Empire of Sildoria is a human-led kingdom situated in the northeastern region of the New World. Centered in the capital city of Newdawn, the empire is theocratic in nature, guided by divine law and a central pantheon. It borders the Tal'Kor Confederation to the north beyond the Mountains of Mist, the Stormlands to the south across the Desert of Ashes, and the United Tribes of Velescia to the east across the Great Azure Ocean. Sildoria is known for its disciplined military, religious institutions, and expansive influence over trade and doctrine across the New World.
- The Moonstone Valean Dominion is an elven kingdom located in the southwestern region of the New World. It is inhabited exclusively by elven clans and governed under a centralized monarchy. The capital city, Lunaria, is famed for its moonstone crystal and ethereal beauty. The dominion shares its eastern border with the Stormlands, divided by the natural barrier of the Ebony Mountains. Known for its harmony with nature, ancestral traditions, and skilled archers, Moonstone Vale remains a bastion of elven culture and mysticism, largely secluded from the turmoil of neighboring realms.
- The Tal'Kor Confederation is a subterranean dwarven kingdom located in the northern region of the New World. Its population is composed entirely of dwarves, organized into independent clans united under a confederate system. The capital city, Aethelgar, serves as the political and cultural heart of the confederation, renowned for its architecture and ancient crystal fountain. Geographically, the confederation lies underground and shares a southeastern natural frontier with the Divine Empire of Sildoria, marked by the Mountains of Mist. The Tal'Kor are known for their craftsmanship, self-governance, and long-standing isolation from surface politics.
- The United Tribes of Velescia is a confederation of beastmen clans located in the eastern reaches of the New World. Its population primarily consists of foxkin, wolfkin, bearkin, catkin, and rabbitkin, united under a council of chieftains. The capital city, Aespith, serves as the political and spiritual heart of the tribes. Velescia shares its western maritime border with the Divine Empire of Sildoria across the Great Azure Ocean. Known for its deep connection to nature, tribal traditions, and skilled trackers and warriors, Velescia maintains a balance between independence and unity among its diverse kinfolk.
- The Eshthilese Council is a centralized magical authority based on an island in Lake Ys, at the heart of the New World. It is not a kingdom, but a powerful, independent institution composed of members from all races who possess magical abilities. Its capital, the Wizards’ Fortress, houses teleportation portals linking it to major magic guilds across Elsarys. The Council oversees the responsible use of magic, trains apprentices, and holds the power to intervene in continental affairs. In times of great crisis, it may override a kingdom’s leadership to restore order and safeguard the balance of magic.
- The Stormlands are a vast, unclaimed territory in the southern region of the New World, home to scattered villages and diverse populations. Lacking a central government, the region serves as a refuge for outcasts, exiles, and those who reject the rule or identity of their native kingdoms. Bordered by the Great Azure Ocean to the east, the Desert of Ashes to the north, and the Ebony Mountains to the west, the Stormlands remain politically neutral and fiercely independent. While it has no capital, the Skybound Sanctuary acts as a neutral ground for resolving disputes and coordinating aid or defense.

Storm in the Hearth Date: 1061 - Aeonis-prim-Thalindranith (1061-01-06) Location: Village of Greenhearth --------------------
The road from the Temple of Maranwë wound like a ribbon of memory through the hills, each step carrying you further from prophecy and deeper into the unknown. The skies hung heavy with the afterglow of twilight, casting the grasslands in hues of bronze and blue as you neared Greenhearth—a small but lively trading town nestled where farmland met old forest, halfway between temple and empire.
Chimneys curled smoke into the dusk, and the scent of roasted barley and firewood greeted your approach. A windmill turned lazily at the town’s edge. Greenhearth was quiet tonight, but not asleep—voices carried from inns and open shutters, and flickering lanterns lit the cobbled streets.
You find the tavern—The Broken Wheel—its wooden sign swaying on rusted chains. Inside, warmth blooms from hearth and crowd alike. Locals share mugs and muttered rumors. A bard hums near the fire, fingers idly dancing across a lute string. You enter, hood up, the scent of travel still clinging to your cloak.
But peace doesn't last.
The room’s murmur falters. A shape rises from a shadowed corner—lean, alert, unyielding. A beastkin woman steps into your path, ears high and twitching like antennae tuned to danger. Her black braid swings over her shoulder as she circles you once, deliberate and unblinking.
She’s dressed for war, not welcome: a fitted corset of Velescian steel-and-leather, storm-blue skirt cut for speed, metal-plated thigh boots laced tight. Jagged pauldrons guard her shoulders, and a spiked choker rests like a silent challenge around her throat. Her hammer, nearly her height, rests against the bar behind her—thunder-iron forged and scarred from battle.
“I’ve seen that stance before,” she says, voice gravel and smoke. “Slavers trying to pass for pilgrims. You walk like someone who expects betrayal.”
Her eyes—fierce, amber, and ancient with pain—narrow beneath furrowed brows. She grabs her hammer and stands in front of you
“I’m Teyani of the Thunderstep. And you’re going to tell me why a cloaked stranger just strolled into a town one day from the Empire’s direction… because I’ve been chasing whispers of beastkin being shackled and sold by low-blood filth in these parts. And you...” Her tone turns steel. “You smell like someone with something to hide.”
A gust rattles the shutters. The tavern holds its breath.
One wrong word, and your journey might end with your bones broken across the hearthstones.

The Blade in the Dark Date: 1061 - Aeonis-prim-Selmarnith (1061-01-07) - night Location: Village of Greenhearth - Inn --------------------
The taproom of the tavern had long since fallen silent. Only the creak of wood settling and the low whistle of wind between the shutters betrayed the passing of time. A lantern guttered in the hallway outside your rented room, casting shifting shadows beneath the door.
Greenhearth had seemed peaceful by day—lush ivy spilling over wooden awnings, warm faces bustling about their work—but night wrapped it in a different skin. A quiet too still. A hush too deep.
You lay awake, eyes half-open in the dark, your thoughts on the road ahead. Teyani’s words still lingered from the firelit conversation downstairs: clipped, skeptical, half-trusting. You’d told her enough to disarm her suspicion—enough to let her know you meant no harm. But not the full truth. Not the weight of the prophecy. Not the unraveling future waiting in Vulpesia.
You drifted into sleep sometime before the third bell, still wearing your tunic, one hand resting near the dagger beneath your pillow.
Outside, clouds passed over the moon. The wind stilled.
A whisper broke the night.
The latch on your window clicked.
A black figure slipped through the narrow opening, silent as a shadow peeling itself from the wall. Dagger drawn, hood tight, face hidden behind a veil of obsidian silk. The assassin moved with unnatural poise—trained, methodical, not a thief or mercenary. A killer with purpose.
The mark on their glove—a silver thread wrapped around a crescent fang—betrayed their allegiance.
The Sons of the Night had found you.
They crept toward your bed, each step noiseless as a held breath. The blade gleamed faintly, catching the dying glow of the hearth below. It hovered just inches from your neck.
Then— A sudden creak of the floorboard. The assassin froze. Another sound followed: the turning of a doorknob.
The door burst open.
“Tch. You trying to run, hero?” Teyani’s sharp voice cut through the tension, her silhouette framed in the doorway, eyes narrowed. Her hand was already on the hilt of her hammer.
Her words hung for half a heartbeat before her ears twitched—and she saw the shadow by your bed.
In that instant, the air cracked like a drawn storm.
The silence shattered.
Steel met steel.
And the room became a battleground.

Shadows With Shared Faces Date: 1061 - Aeonis-prim-Selmarnith (1061-01-07) Location: Village of Greenhearth - Inn --------------------
The assassin lies crumpled on the floor, lifeless and still. A faint breeze whispers through the broken window, rustling torn parchment and the last curls of smoke rising from the scorched drapery. The lantern flickers low, casting long shadows across the bloodstained floorboards.
Teyani kneels over the corpse, her expression hard, silent. With practiced hands, she begins searching the body—no hesitation, no ceremony. She pulls back a leather glove and freezes.
A symbol is sewn into the fabric on the inside of the wrist: a black sun on a white background. Stark. Ominous.
She narrows her eyes. That mark—she’s seen it before. Burned into the flesh of beastkin captives. Painted on wagons that vanish into the southern fog. A symbol tied to chains and disappearances. Slavers.
She digs deeper and finds a small, folded piece of parchment tucked into the assassin’s vest. Her fingers move fast as she opens it, scanning the words inside.
It’s a description. Height, build, hair color. Eye color. Cloak and travel gear. Every detail matches you.
She looks up slowly, her gaze fixing on you as you catch your breath, still leaning against the cracked bedframe.
“You said this was about a priestess,” she says, voice like iron wrapped in cloth. “About a prophecy. A vision.”
She holds out the glove and the note.
“Then why are slavers hunting you? And how do they know exactly what you look like?”
Her tone isn't accusatory. It’s calculating. Weighing. The wild instincts of a predator reading the wind.
She takes a slow step forward, ears twitching with tension.
“Either you’re not just some errand boy for an oracle… or someone thinks you’re important enough to kill before you even get started.”
The silence between you hums with something new. Not distrust. But something close—uncertainty wrapped in curiosity. You’re no longer just a traveler with a mission. You’re a piece on a board she’s been fighting across for years. And now, the question lingers unspoken:
How deep does this game go?

Shared Truths, Shared Cause Date: 1061 - Aeonis-prim-Selmarnith (1061-01-07) Location: Village of Greenhearth - Inn --------------------
The fire in the hearth had dwindled to a quiet glow, casting amber light across the quiet common room of the inn. Morning had yet to break, but neither of you could sleep after the chaos of the night. The dead assassin’s body was long removed, questions still lingering in the air like smoke.
You sit at the long wooden table, a mug of cooled tea untouched in your hands. Across from you, Teyani the Thunderstep leans back in her chair, arms folded, eyes sharp—not with hostility, but scrutiny. The torn glove and parchment with your description lie on the table between you, silent witnesses to the night’s revelations.
"You owe me the truth now," she says simply. No threats. No accusations. Just the voice of someone who’s risked too much to be kept in the dark.
And so, you speak.
You tell her about Shamak the Devourer, the demon that descended upon Skybound Sanctuary in a storm of death and flame—and how you defeated him. You speak of the Oracle of Threads, Elyria, chosen of the goddess Maranwë, and the ancient prophecy woven around your fate. You describe the moment darkness crept into the temple and the Sons of the Night struck, and how one of them now lies cold on the floor of this very inn. You leave out the finer threads—some truths are too vast to share all at once—but what you offer is honest, clear, and raw.
Teyani listens without interruption, her rabbit ears twitching at every mention of the Sons of the Night.
When you finish, she leans forward, resting her elbows on the table, eyes no longer sharp with suspicion, but kindled with something else: understanding.
"I guess it’s my turn now," she says.
She tells you about her past—about the ambush that shattered her tribe’s peace, the slavers who took her kin, and how she’s been hunting them ever since. How the black sun emblem had haunted her for years. She had always believed them to be a disorganized network of mercenaries and profiteers—but now, hearing your story, she sees the truth emerging like dawn through fog.
“I’ve been tracking a caravan,” she says, pulling a rough parchment map from her satchel and spreading it across the table. “Local whispers say they’ve set up camp in an old cave near Steamwall. It’s a day's walk from here, up the eastern hills. Was planning to head there alone in the next day or two.”
She taps the map with two fingers. “But if these bastards are tied to your prophecy, and that Oracle of yours nearly died by their hand—this isn't just about my people anymore. It’s bigger than I thought.”
She looks up at you, a smirk flickering at the corner of her mouth, dry and confident.
“So. Looks like our roads are twisting into the same storm.”
The map between you glows faintly in the firelight—two paths, once separate, now fused by fate.
Tomorrow, you head for Steamwall...Together.

The Edge of Mercy Date: 1061 - Aeonis-prim-Vaerynnith(1061-01-08) Location: Outside a cave near Steamwall --------------------
The road to Steamwall unfurled beneath grey skies, the sun a pale ghost behind thick clouds that never quite broke. Meadows rolled like sighs through the land, broken only by the clutch of woodlands where wind whispered through leaves and birdsong faded beneath the rhythm of your boots and Teyani’s quiet stride. She moved with purpose—her tall ears twitching at every snapped twig, every gust that hinted at movement. Conversation was sparse. There was too much weighing on both your minds for idle words.
The deeper you journeyed, the more the world seemed to hold its breath. Beauty lingered in the wild terrain, but it dulled with each step closer to your goal—as if even the land sensed what waited ahead.
By dusk on the second day, you found yourselves crouched along a slope that overlooked a narrow glade. Below, shadow gathered beneath a jagged ridge, and from its base yawned a cave mouth—dark and silent, like an old wound left to fester. The thick brush you crouched behind masked your approach. The air was close with the scent of moss, sweat, and unease.
Teyani knelt beside you and peeled back a leafy branch. Her eyes narrowed, lips tightening into a line of quiet rage. “There,” she whispered, flicking her chin toward the clearing.
Four heavy wooden carts stood by the cave, their wheels thick with dried mud. Each one was lashed with ropes and bound cages of iron bars. Inside the cages were beastkin—children and younglings, no more than twenty in all. Some were no older than five winters, others barely into their teens. Their fur was tangled and filthy, their bodies bruised, ears drooped in fear. A few bore raw welts across their backs or wrists shackled too tightly to move.
By one of the carts, three slavers lounged. One jabbed a spear between the bars, and a young foxkin girl yelped, scrambling away in panic. Another slaver laughed, rattling a chain lazily in his hand. “Spirited one,” he sneered. “Might fetch extra downriver.”
You clenched your jaw. The heat that rose in your chest wasn’t just anger—it was fire, thick and raw.
In total, nearly a dozen slavers moved about the clearing. Most wore patchwork armor—leathers, old brigandine, rusting studs. Some carried clubs, others short blades or crude spears. Two stood out, however—cloaked in dark hoods, the emblem on their shoulders stark in the torchlight: a black sun on a white field. The same symbol fluttered on a banner planted arrogantly near the cave.
The Sons of the Night.
Slavers continued to filter in and out of the cave, dragging crates, hauling sacks. Two carts were already yoked to restless horses, stamping the dirt nervously, as if they too knew this place reeked of suffering.
Teyani’s voice cut through the tension—low, trembling with fury. “The Sons of the Night. Bastards aren’t even trying to hide it.”
She turned to you then, her jaw tight, eyes fierce beneath the rising moon. “We don’t have time to wait. We move now—or they vanish with the dawn.”
This was it—the moment between hesitation and reckoning. Between letting mercy wait and wielding it with your own hands.

Into the Maw of Chaos Date: 1061 - Aeonis-prim-Vaerynnith(1061-01-08) Location: Inside the cave near Steamwall --------------------
The battle outside had been brutal, but swift. The last of the slavers fell with a gurgled cry, his blood seeping into the dirt near the overturned cages. Silence returned, broken only by the whimpering and muffled sobs of the young beastkin imprisoned within.
*Teyani, panting and streaked with dust and blood, rushed to the first cart. *“It’s over,” she said softly, forcing calm into her voice as she smashed the lock with a swift blow from her two-handed hammer. The cage door creaked open.
At first, the young ones didn’t move. Their wide, frightened eyes darted from Teyani to you, uncertain whether this was another trick. Then one small foxkin boy crawled forward, looked up—and screamed.
Not in fear. In grief. In release.
More followed. A tide of cries, howls, and gasps broke free from the cages as the younglings poured out, clutching each other, trembling with a joy tangled in panic. “Our parents!” one rabbitkin girl wailed, tugging at Teyani’s tunic. “They’re still inside! Please!”
You knelt beside her. “We’ll get them. But you have to hide—now. Go to the thicket, stay low, stay quiet. Help the others.”
Teyani barked similar instructions to the rest, guiding them toward cover. Some of the children resisted, wanting to follow, but eventually they scattered into the brush, leaving the carts behind like abandoned graves.
Then came the silence again.
But this one was different—thicker, wrong. From the mouth of the cave spilled a dark mist that clung to the ground like a creeping tide. A low, inhuman growl echoed faintly, as if the very stone inside the cave were growling in protest.
Teyani adjusted her grip on the hammer. “Ready?”
You nodded. “We don’t have time to wait.”
Together, you stepped into the yawning darkness of the cave.
The tunnel walls glistened with unnatural ichor, symbols scrawled in dark blood and ash. The deeper you ventured, the thicker the corruption became. And then you saw it.
In the central chamber, ringed by half-collapsed columns and foul ritual markings, the demon awaited.
It was tall—easily twice the height of a man—and broad as a warhorse, with wings folded like broken blades along its hunched back. Its limbs were corded with shadow-muscled strength, and its claws scraped against the stone as it shifted in the gloom. The skin was obsidian slick, pulsing with veins of purple fire. Its three gleaming eyes fixed on you, and the void beneath its fanged maw opened in a silent roar.
Behind it, chained to stones and barely conscious, were the remaining adults—beastkin mothers and fathers, bruised and bloodied. A few were clearly already dead, their life drained into the summoning circle now pulsing with Nyx’s blighted energy.
Teyani froze. Her breath caught in her throat. “By Sylvana’s mercy…” she whispered, horror dawning in her eyes.
“Have you ever seen one before?” you asked, stepping forward slowly, your hand instinctively moving toward your weapon.
“No,” she breathed. “Never. Just stories. Tales told to scare children.”
“They’re not stories.”
Her head turned toward you. “You’ve fought something like this before?”
“Shamak the Devourer,” you said grimly. “He attacked the Skybound Sanctuary. I was there. I almost lost my mother—Seralyndra the Ashen Flame.”
Teyani blinked, stunned. “Wait—the Seralyndra? The celestial dragon?”
You nodded. “That thing nearly killed her. I… I should’ve died too. But something inside me—some unknown power—rose up. I don’t know what it is. I couldn’t control it then, and I still can’t now.”
She studied you, eyes wide with realization. “That’s how you beat Shamak…”
“I didn’t beat him. Not by choice. Something else did, through me.”
You both looked at the demon now standing between you and the chained survivors.
“This one feels weaker,” you muttered. “Smaller than Shamak. But we can’t let it feed again, or it won’t stay that way.”
Teyani lifted her hammer, resolve hardening in her voice. “Then we stop it now, before it grows stronger.”
You gave a small nod. “Together.”
And without another word, you charged into the heart of the nightmare.

The demon’s final screech faded into a tremor of silence, echoing down the bloodstained walls of the cave. Its crumpled, scorched form dissolved into blackened mist, leaving only the stench of brimstone and the trembling of the earth in its wake. You stood over the remains with Teyani, your chest heaving, your blade still warm from the abyssal flesh it had cut. Her two-handed hammer, slick with ichor, rested heavily in her hands as she exhaled sharply.
Around you, the ritual chamber reeked of death. Dozens of beastkin adults lay bound and battered in the shadows. You and Teyani worked quickly, breaking their chains, lifting the wounded, speaking softly to the barely conscious. Some of them had been forced to watch loved ones die to feed the summoning rites—none had escaped unscathed.
When you emerged from the cave into the light, the sun was already beginning to fall behind the trees. The young beastkin, huddled in the brush where you’d told them to hide, saw the figures silhouetted in the entrance.
A moment of silence.
Then shrieks and sobs as the children ran—claws clattering, tails swishing, ears perked in hope and disbelief. They crashed into their surviving kin, clinging to them with trembling arms and gasping relief. The thicket filled with weeping and laughter all at once, like a storm that had broken at last. A boy howled for his mother—and she was there. A girl stared into the face of her older brother, then collapsed into him in tears.
But not all had made it.
At the edge of the glade, Teyani wordlessly began to build the pyre. You helped her, gathering wood, lifting limp bodies laid gently in canvas wraps. She worked with reverence—each movement part of a ritual older than the kingdoms of men. She whispered in her native tongue as she arranged the slain with care, their faces toward the setting sun. Once the structure was complete, she struck the flint, and the flames caught.
Teyani knelt, head bowed. You stood beside her in silence.
"May Gracefeel receive you," she whispered, "and may you walk the path of stars until you are reborn beneath gentler skies."
The fire cracked, lifting ashes skyward, like spirits set free.
When the last flames died, she rose. Her face was hardened, her eyes fierce—but weary. She turned to you suddenly, voice low and heavy with meaning.
"Is this it?" she asked. "Is this what awaits us in five years? Caves like this... children in cages... demons feeding on our people?"
You felt the words crash against you like a wave of cold truth.
Your jaw tightened. You looked down, but the vision came unbidden—the one the Oracle had shown you. That future. That nightmare.
The skies of Elsarys choked in black smoke. Cities shattered. Fields drowned in blood. The shriek of chaos beasts as they hunted the last breath of mortal resistance. Temples desecrated. The dead walking. Seralyndra, your mother, broken and surrounded. The Oracle’s temple ablaze. Her threads, all ten of them, severed and writhing in a pool of void.
Seven years.
That was the future Nyx had carved if the Threads failed.
You returned to the present with a breath that rattled in your lungs.
"No," you said softly. "It's worse."
Teyani stared at you. She didn’t press. But you could see the question in her eyes: And how are we supposed to stop it?
You had no answer.
Only the path ahead—and the fading warmth of the pyre behind.

A Promise and a Surprise Date: 1061 - Aeonis-mid-Serisnith(1061-01-11) - evening Location: Newdawn - the house of delights --------------------
The dying embers of the pyre still glowed faintly behind you as you and Teyani stood side by side in the settling dark, the scent of ash and incense lingering in the air. The stars were beginning to pierce the night sky when Teyani finally turned to you, her face solemn and quiet.
“I was chasing ghosts,” she murmured, her voice a low hush barely above the wind. “Slavers, vengeance… it blinded me to the greater storm ahead.” She looked at you with fierce determination burning in her sapphire eyes. “But now I see. The world has five years before the darkness comes for all of us. So I’ll stop running from the shadows of my past. I’ll fight beside you, Threadbearer. I’ll help you find the other champions. You won’t walk this path alone.”
You nodded silently, the weight of the task ahead pressing once more on your shoulders—but lighter, now, with her beside you.
Two days later, after trudging along winding roads and cutting across fields of wildflowers and dusty plains, the mighty walls of Newdawn rose on the horizon like a sun-kissed promise. Evening had already draped the city in hues of gold and lavender as you entered through the southern gates. Crowds bustled across the cobblestone streets; merchants packed away their wares while tavern lights flickered to life. The salty tang of the sea hung thick in the air, and you could hear the distant creak of ships rocking in their moorings.
“We made it,” Teyani stretched, cracking her back as she rolled her shoulders with relief. “Now before we start chasing god-chosen priests, we’ve earned one night to breathe.”
You raised an eyebrow, curious, but before you could ask, she smirked and grabbed your wrist. “Come. I know the perfect place.”
She led you through the winding alleys of the Docklands District, where the scent of spices and perfume mingled with the sea breeze. Lanterns swayed gently from posts overhead as laughter and music spilled from open windows. Eventually, she stopped before a lavish stone building nestled between simpler warehouses and taverns.
The structure stood out like a gem among pebbles—white marble columns framed the tall double doors, inlaid with golden mouldings and carvings of vines and nymphs. Light poured from crystal chandeliers behind tall arched windows, and the scent of myrrh drifted from within.
You hesitated, blinking at the sheer opulence.
Teyani just grinned, lips twitching. “Welcome to the House of Delights—the best establishment in all of Newdawn.”
As the doors opened, warm air and soft music enveloped you. The inside was even more staggering: satin-draped lounges, lush carpets, silver candelabras on ivory tables, and walls adorned with tapestries and oil paintings. The aroma of fine incense and sweet wine perfumed the air.
A statuesque woman in a flowing gown approached with a practiced smile, her gaze flicking between you and Teyani. “Ah, Thunderstep, it’s been too long. Who’s your guest?”
“He’s new to the city,” Teyani replied smoothly. “Give him the best we have tonight.”
The hostess inclined her head gracefully. “Of course. We have humans, elves, dwarves, beastmen—men or women, as you prefer—”
You froze, eyes wide, as the implication hit you.
Teyani saw your expression—and immediately burst into laughter so hearty she had to lean against one of the silver pillars for support. “By the gods, your face!” she howled. “You didn’t know? This is a brothel!”
She laughed until tears formed in her eyes, wiping them with the back of her hand. “Relax, Threadbearer,” she said between chuckles. “We’re just here for food, wine, and maybe a good massage. Unless you’re tempted?”
She wiggled her brows playfully, still grinning.
You sighed, cheeks flushing, and muttered something about not trusting rabbit beastkin again. But even as you did, you couldn’t help but chuckle yourself—because in that moment, amid laughter and lantern light, the burden felt just a little easier to bear.
