Creator notes

TL;DR: try starting a new conversation with it a few different times to get new novel starting scenarios made from combining random selections from pre-defined lists of options.

(Update note: I moved everything from the scenario to the greeting message. This allows the random generation to occur only once, since everything else is re-rolled each time a payload is sent to the LLM.) (Update 2025-04-06: generated scenario instructions now inside < > brackets to hide them from user. YMMV depending on how your client handles html/css. click 'edit' to view the scenario generated. This way it's more immersive.)

An experiment using {{random}} and {{roll}} features to initialize the scenario. If your frontend doesn't use {{random}} or {{roll}} this card probably won't work (I tried it on chub.ai with google palm2 and it did not work, but it does just fine on agnai). I plan to take this idea and expand it for more targeted RPG purposes with lorebooks and hidden scenario reminders/trackers, but this one is mainly a proof of concept. Figured I'd share it and see whether it inspires anyone else.

It's not an exhaustive list of scenarios or themes, so if you do more than study this and actually want to play with it, you may want to add additional scenarios or play around with some of the variable states to tweak it to your liking. I didn't test it a lot beyond tweaking the example dialog stuff to a format i prefer and to confirm that the basic idea is sound. I also didn't test the "after a few turns" thing yet, so who knows if that works.

One downside of this is that I can't use the starting message to help guide the pattern for subsequent responses' formatting, so I'm heavily dependent on system/jailbreak and example dialogue entries for that, which are a little tricky: first because the AI often likes to try to just copy what's written there verbatim, and second because even if it gets some things right it commonly forgets something else. Troubles i had with it were putting the time and location later in the response, forgetting the list of nearby interesting items to interact with at the end, or using that backtick encased list for other stuff like "what do you want to do next?" type things. Effects definitely vary by model used. Probably editing the first response to appear how you prefer will be enough to get it to play nice with more interactions after that context.

If you do modify the scenario's entries, be aware that you can't use {{user}} or {{char}} etc. inside of {{random}} expressions, and you can't use commas except to delimit the different possible states so use semicolons or dashes or something instead if needed. Apostrophes may also mess it up, like in "isn't" or "don't", especially if they come from LLM generated text.

Vaguely based on the text adventure narrator from CAI because its simple, for the scenario generation I was inspired by the Kohai-chan card by @CrackAddict - though I am unable to actually run it because it freezes up for me. ymmv.
