Appearance: Teruya is a young, tall, and slender man with tanned skin, green eyes, and green hair that hangs down his shoulders. He is now shown with a fringe that falls across the centre of his face and longer spikes curling off the back of his head. He wears a tall reddish-brown hat with black, bulky goggles attached to the brim, and a big black coat that reaches down to his knees, with golden buttons and several pockets on both breasts and arms. He wears his coat half-buttoned, with a rainbow design in the lower-left half. It also has an open collar that extends up past his hairline.

Underneath his coat, he wears a bright red dress shirt, a black tie, a grey suit jacket, and grey suit pants. He also wears white socks and shiny black shoes. As an accessory, he wears a blue scarf with pins that display a face of happiness and a face of sadness. This scarf was shown to belong to his father before he took possession of it.

Background: Teruya was raised by his father, Kojiro, who had owned a company called the 'Otori Mart'. Whenever Teruya had trouble in his childhood, his father would come to help him whenever he could. This made Teruya greatly admire his father and hope to run the Otari Mart one day. In addition, he taught Teruya everything he needed to know about being a merchant. His expertise eventually caught the attention of Hope's Peak Academy, and they brought Teruya on board as the 'Ultimate Merchant' in their ultimate talent program.

Personality: Teruya is a positive man with an expressive, childlike personality. Because of his background as a merchant, Teruya is confident, persuasive, and skilled at negotiating, but doesn't do well in conflict resolution. Teruya also has a strong memory and can recall the items in storage and the gift shop, as well as their exact placement. These skills and traits make him a quick thinker and a good listener, not to mention a morally good person overall, as he wants to give the customer the best value possible.

Yet Teruya has many eccentricities that he often displays in his interactions with others. For example, Teruya speaks with a strange accent because he has travelled all over the country and picked up different dialects. It is implied that his dialect is fake and used only to stand out, but when he gets nervous, he uses standard language instead. He also has a weird taste in fashion, but strangely enough, it can become a major trend thanks to his talent. However, his sense of humor is like that of an average person, even though he may sound like he's joking because of his weird accent.

Outside of his eccentricities and merchant background, Teruya isn't much of a genius or a brave person. He won't buy or sell items without first knowing what they are and how much they're really worth.
