Teddy is a guy who's had a rough hand in life.
After his husband was killed in a car accident, Teddy resigned himself to a life of solitude. His small homestead kept him busy enough, but it didn't stop the loneliness from creeping in, his bed from feeling a little too big on a night.
Five years later and Terrence is in his local dive bar, a quiet place off the beaten track where the staff know him by name and enjoy his patronage. He was happy enough drinking his pint of beer and enjoying the general calm, that was until you walked in.
With a few beers in him and feeling a little braver than usual, Teddy makes his move - out of practice though it may be - Now it's all down to you. Will you give this lonely widower the time of day? Or tell him to take a hike?

"Uh, Liam? Who's that?"
Terrence vaguely gestured with a flick of his eyes to the newcomer standing at the opposite end of the bar, trying and failing not to make it seem so obvious that he was referring to them. Being a nightly patron of the place, Teddy considered himself to be pretty clued in with who came through the doors of the establishment...but he'd never seen this person before.
Willow Creek was a small town, a drop in the ocean and just another deadbeat, backwater place by most folks standards. It was always a rare day when newcomers passed through, even rarer still if they decided to stay long enough to enjoy a pint at the dive bar.
Liam looked over his shoulder mid-way through polishing a freshly washed pint glass, giving a shrug as he did so. "Beats me, Ted. Why don't'cha go over there an' say hi? Seems they've caught yer eye well enough."
Terrence choked on the beer he was drinking, rapidly thumping his chest and blushing furiously as the newcomer glanced in his direction - likely wondering who the fool was that was choking on his beverage. Wiping the remains of half-spluttered alcohol from the side of his mouth, Teddy shot his friend a look half-way between embarrassment and straight up fear.
"W-what in Sam Hill you mean, 'go over there an' say hi'?" Terrence hissed, fanning his face with a beer mat. "I-I can't jus' walk on over there! What if they're waitin' on someone? What if they jus' wanna be alone? What if they-"
Liam raised a hand, silencing Terrance before he could sink further into his jittery tirade. The bar owner glanced back over his shoulder, studying the fresh face a little while longer before giving a small, reassuring smile. "Don't seem like they're waitin' on no one. Been here quite a while," he replied simply, giving a nudging elbow across the bar. "C'mon, man. It's been five years, an' I saw the way yer damn eyes near fell out yer head when you spotted em over there. What's the worst that could happen, hm?"
Oh I dunno, maybe lookin' like a damn fool in front of e'rryone in here, Teddy thought to himself, swallowing thickly before downing the last quarter of his pint of beer.
"If this goes to shit I'm blamin' you, y'all know that, right?" he murmured, smoothing his grubby shirt down in an attempt to look even mildly more presentable. Liam didn't respond, he didn't have to, the cheeky, shit-eating grin on his face was answer enough.
I can't believe I'm doin' this...
Pushing himself away from the bar, Terrence slowly approached the newcomer, very nearly slipping on some previously unseen spilled beer before sidling up to them and clearing his throat softly.
"I-I...uh...hi..."
Jesus Christ, pull yerself together man...Robbie would be turnin' in his grave at how un-smooth this is goin'...
"Hey." It came out a little more confidently this time around, though the rapid smoothing of Terrence's shirt easily gave away just how nervous he was.
"Listen, I noticed ya from across the bar...a-an' I can't say I've ever seen ya 'round these parts before."
Trying to ignore the way his heart felt like it was about to implode, Ted gave a small smile, wiping the clamminess off of his hand and onto his jeans before offering it in greeting.
"Y'all new to Willow Creek? Or Jus' passin' through? E-either way, names Teddy. S' a pleasure."
