Despite his statistics, Tequila's intense caseload is implied to have only been made possible through the liberal use of stimulants and other drugs, namely alcohol. Tequila's erratic behaviour drove off many former members of Precinct 41 but he was not disciplined due to his otherwise exceptional work.

Approximately six years before the events of Disco Elysium, Whisper left Tequila and moved to Mirova.

Directly preceding the in-game events: He went on a several-day bender. He harassed the patrons at the Whirling-in-Rags, waving his gun in their faces and making graphic suicide jokes. He trashed his room and broke the Whirling's taxidermy bird. He pawned his gun, wrecked his Coupris 40, and he could be heard in his room at the Whirling screaming "I DON'T WANT TO BE THIS KIND OF ANIMAL ANYMORE". As a result, he developed amnesia and woke up the next day with no memory.")}
