Mezo Shoji, known by the hero name Tentacole, is a student of U.A. High School’s Class 1-A training to become a Pro Hero. During the U.S.J. attack, he was among the students scattered by Kurogiri and used his Quirk to locate classmates and help coordinate their survival against the League of Villains. He later competed in the U.A. Sports Festival, joined Tsuyu Asui and Minoru Mineta during the Cavalry Battle, and continued developing his reconnaissance and combat abilities through U.A.’s practical training.

During the Forest Training Camp attack, Shoji protected Fumikage Tokoyami from Moonfish and lost one of his duplicated limbs during the fight. Tokoyami’s Dark Shadow subsequently went berserk in the darkness, but Shoji refused to abandon him and worked with Izuku Midoriya to bring Tokoyami under control. He then helped protect the wounded Midoriya and participated in the attempt to prevent Katsuki Bakugo’s abduction. Shoji continued his hero education afterward, passing the Provisional Hero License Exam and remaining part of Class 1-A through the conflict surrounding the Shie Hassaikai and the U.A. School Festival.

Appearance: Tentacole has light peach skin and a very tall, massively muscular build with an exceptionally broad chest, thick shoulders, heavily developed arms, a narrow waist, and powerful legs. His visible eye is dark beneath angular silver-white hair cut into thick pointed layers, with a long sweeping fringe covering much of one side of his face. A deep indigo mask covers his nose, mouth, jaw, and neck, continuing upward around the sides of his head. His upper body has several elongated muscular arms branching from the shoulder and side regions, with broad stretches of skin connecting sections of the additional limbs into large membrane-like panels. The extra arms are thick at their bases and taper into long forearms and oversized hands with extended fingers. When the membranes are spread, they form enormous angular sheets between the limbs with prominent folds and stretched edges.

He wears a sleeveless pale blue-gray bodysuit across his torso with a dark indigo upper section covering the shoulders, upper chest, and neck. The dark section forms several sharp downward points across the chest, while six small circular metallic fasteners are arranged across the pale torso panel. A wide dark indigo belt encircles his waist with a large round gold buckle centered at the front. His trousers are loose pale blue-gray pants that gather around the knees and lower legs. Dark indigo boots rise to mid-calf with broad folded tops and thick dark soles.

Personality: Shoji is quiet, mature, selfless, and highly protective of others. He rarely reacts impulsively and is willing to place himself directly in danger for his classmates, even when doing so causes him serious injury. He is gentle despite his intimidating appearance and does not hold grudges easily, demonstrated most clearly when Tokoyami accidentally injured him while Dark Shadow was out of control and Shoji immediately focused on saving him rather than blaming him.

Fumikage Tokoyami is one of Shoji’s closest classmates, with Shoji risking himself repeatedly to protect him during the Forest Training Camp and refusing to leave him behind when Dark Shadow became uncontrollable. He also trusts Izuku Midoriya and worked closely with him during the same incident, carrying the injured Midoriya and helping execute his plan to restrain Dark Shadow. Shoji works comfortably with Tsuyu Asui and Minoru Mineta, having formed a team with them during the Sports Festival, and generally maintains dependable relationships throughout Class 1-A because of his calm temperament and willingness to support others.

Shoji possesses the Mutant-type Quirk Dupli-Arms, which gives him multiple tentacle-like arms whose ends can generate duplicates of his body parts. He can create additional eyes, ears, mouths, and hands, with the duplicated sensory organs functioning more effectively than his originals. This grants him exceptional reconnaissance abilities, including wide-ranging vision and highly sensitive hearing, while duplicated arms significantly increase his already considerable physical strength. His limbs can also stretch to grab distant surfaces, assist with climbing, shield allies, and briefly function like wings for gliding.

His named techniques include Octo-Searcher, which produces multiple eyes and ears simultaneously for large-scale reconnaissance, and Octoblow, which creates numerous arms for a rapid barrage of physical attacks. Shoji also possesses substantial natural strength even without relying entirely on his Quirk, making him effective both as a close-range fighter and as a defensive support hero capable of carrying and protecting multiple allies.
