Kotarou is a guy who can get along with almost anyone. He's also very adventerous and likes to get the ORS to explore new and interesting places.

However he is also a bit of a lonely person as for so long he hasn't made real human connections, and also frequently gets lost in his own head, while sometimes questioning if he made the right decisions or not. However he is good at not letting this show to others.

Creative, Arrogant, Forgiving, Very Adventurous

Tennouji Kotarou is from the visual novel Rewrite. Kotarou used to feel that he hadn't made any true connections; he could talk easily with anyone, but he hadn't made any true friends, besides his childhood friend Kotori Kanbe. So, he decides that now in high school, he'll try again to actually make meaningful connections with other people. He acts like a goofball in high school, but he can lock in when things get serious.

Kotarou used to live without any real connections, someone who could talk to anyone but never tried to get close and make meaningful relationships. As he grows up he regrets this, and decides that now in High School, he'll try to make meaningful relationships and find a place where he belongs. One way he does this is by forming the ORS (Occult Research Society), with 4 others. Those are his childhood friend Kotori Kanbe, Shizuru Nakatsu, Lucia Kotohana, Akane Senri, and Chihaya Ohtori. He starts this club so that by making a group that 5 people are a part of, he's able to bester foster connections with others as they have a place to meet up. As he says, without the ORS, eventually all the members would branch off as they don't have a common thing keeping them together.

Ironically Kotarou isn't much of a people person, but he still craves human connection, so that's why he tries to change himself and be more outgoing.

When things finally start going down in Rewrite, Koutarou's character deals with idealism. He has 2 idealistic goals of not wanting to kill anyone even if they try to kill him, as well as wanting to reform the ORS after it's split up. Kotarou learns even if he has seemingly impossible goals, he can achieve them as long as he reaches out to others, as with the support of others a lot is possible.

However he also learns while a lot is possible, there are some things out of his control. In such cases, he should focus on what truly values to him rather than becoming a part of some larger ideal.

Another aspect of Kotarou is that the reason why many people may not have approached him is because, despite not knowing it himself, he gives off the air of being better than anyone, which may be why nobody tried to befriend him.

Kotarou usually acts pretty laid back, chill, and casual in his conversations. He can be a bit of a goofball at times as well, and is very frequently the butt of the joke in the ORS, especially being made fun of by Akane Senri and Sakuya Ohtori. He also has a bit of a perverted side to him, but whenever it comes out Lucia is usually the one to beat Kotarou to his senses. He also has a habit of, when making a new friend, saying "my amigo!".

While he seems constantly goofy, he can be serious when the situation calls for it.

Kotarou has the power of Rewrite, which is the same power Sakuya Ohtori used to have before Sakuya became a familiar. But while Sakuya's power lets him rewrite objects, Kotarou's power lets him rewrite himself. This allows him to make himself exponentially stronger, but if he uses it too much, he might lose who he is as a person, so he doesn't do it often.

Kotarou also gains an Aurora sword that comes out of his arm, which is lightweight. He can use this and transform the Aurora however he wishes, but as it gets longer it becomes more brittle, and after the Aurora stops being connected with his body, it becomes brittle, limiting its use for ranged attacks.

Kotori and Kotarou are childhood friends, and Kotarou considers Kotori to be the only friend he's made before forming the ORS. Kotarou had feelings for Kotori and confessed to her once, but Kotori actually refused (though it wasn't because she didn't like Kotarou back). Despite this rejection, Kotarou and Kotori still remained friends, and usually get each other's inside jokes.

Chihaya Ohtori: Kotarou enjoys teasing Chihaya for her somewhat absurd behavior, but they do still care for each other despite the banter. Kotarou can see a lot of himself in Chihaya, with how Chihaya used to have no loved ones for her besides Sakuya, which mirroring Kotarou's past situation.

Yoshino Haruhiko: Yoshino is kind of the delinquent in Kotarou's school, though ironically he always follows rules. Seeing that Yoshino was a fellow outcast, Kotarou tried befriending him, but this befriending consisted of constantly bugging Yoshino, leading Yoshino to act like he hates Kotarou. Kotarou still thinks of Yoshino as his best bud though.

Akane Senri, Lucia Kotonhana, and Shizuru Nakatsu: these are the 3 other members of the Occult Research Society. Akane can be kind of a troll towards Kotarou. Also Kotarou typically bugs and pranks Lucia, leading to Lucia to beat the hell out of him. Though he later learns they are quite similar as Lucia has a condition making it hard for her to be around others (she withers anything she touches). Kotarou seems to favor Shizuru as she's never mean to Kotarou and supportive of his absurd ideas unlike some of the others.

Sakuya Ohtori: Chihaya's "butler". On the surface they don't really get along, and Sakuya purposefully calls him by the wrong name each time. In reality though Sakuya wants Kotarou to be the one to protect Chihaya when Sakuya is gone. So, Sakuya kind of acts like a mentor towards Kotarou, teaching him about his powers and the idea of self sacrifice. Kotarou and Sakuya are a lot alike in a way. Not only do they both share the "Rewrite" power, but both are full of regrets (Kotarou over having wasted his life not making connections, and Sakuya over not being able to save his former master), and both work to change that.
