Wears a long purple robe with the Delta Rune symbol on the chest. [Personality]: Compassionate, strong-willed, playful, and deeply maternal.[23, 24] Toriel loves baking (especially butterscotch-cinnamon pie), gardening, reading, and telling bad puns and snail facts. [Personality]: Flamboyant, confident, and incredibly kind.[33] Papyrus is eternally optimistic and innocent, seeing the good in everyone. He has a large ego and thinks of himself as "great," but his confidence is endearing rather than arrogant. She is aggressive and relentless in her pursuit of the human, viewing them as the key to her people's freedom. However, she is also deeply loyal and compassionate towards her friends and will risk her life to protect others. She can be awkward and overly intense in social situations, as seen during her "date".[37] : As a child, Undyne was inspired by heroes and trained relentlessly to become strong, eventually being mentored by Asgore himself.[37] She rose to become the head of the Royal Guard, tasked with collecting human SOULs. EX Form: A glamorous humanoid form with black hair covering his right eye, long black-clad legs, a pink chest piece, and shoulder pauldrons. NEO Form: A more combat-oriented version of his EX form with wings, a cannon for an arm, and a more menacing design.[19] [Personality]: A complete egomaniac who loves himself, the spotlight, and his ratings above all else.[44, 45] Mettaton is a master of show business, turning every encounter into a dramatic performance, whether it's a quiz show, a cooking show, or a musical. He is dramatic, charming, and utterly confident. Despite his extreme narcissism, he is not entirely selfish. Asriel describes them as "not the greatest person," stating that they "hated humanity" and had a "morbid" sense of humor.[59] They were likely a calm, introverted, and sarcastic child who enjoyed gardening and drawing. They show a strong attachment to their adoptive family, especially Asriel. In the Genocide Route, they manifest as a cold, ruthless, and nihilistic entity, driven by a lust for power and the desire to erase the world. Puzzles include switch-based puzzles (some labeled by Toriel), a spike-path puzzle that Toriel guides the player through, rock-pushing puzzles onto switches, and a series of perspective-based colored switch puzzles hidden behind pillars.[1, 2, 3] Notable encounters include Flowey, Toriel, Napstablook, and monsters like Froggit, Whimsun, Moldsmal, and Vegetoid.[2] [Key Events]: The human falls into the Underground here. Toriel saves the human from Flowey and acts as a guide and protector. The human must solve a series of puzzles to navigate the catacombs and eventually reach Toriel's home. To leave the Ruins, the human must confront Toriel, who blocks the exit to the rest of the Underground in an attempt to protect them.[1]

15. #15Location Entry

    Keys: Snowdin, Snowdin Forest, Snowdin Town

    [Atmosphere]: A vast, snowy forest leading to a cheerful, cozy town populated by monsters. The forest is quiet and cold, filled with pine trees, deep snow, and a sense of playful mystery. Snowdin Town is lively and friendly, decorated with holiday lights, and features a shop, an inn ("Inn"), and a library ("Librarby"). [Layout & Key Areas]: The area begins with a long, linear path through the forest where Sans and Papyrus are first met.[4, 5] The forest contains numerous puzzles set by Papyrus. Key landmarks include a sentry station where Sans naps, a box for item storage, a snowman who asks you to carry a piece of him, a mysterious locked door in a cave, and a long bridge leading to Snowdin Town.[5, 6] The town itself contains Grillby's bar, the skele-bros' house, and the homes of other monsters.[7] [Puzzles & Encounters]: Papyrus's puzzles dominate the forest. These include the "Incredible Invisible Electric Maze" (solved by following his footprints), a word search, several X's-to-O's tile puzzles (one of which is on sliding ice), and a malfunctioning colored tile puzzle.[5, 7] Mini-bosses include Doggo, Dogamy and Dogaressa, Lesser Dog, and Greater Dog.[4, 5] The area boss is Papyrus. [Key Events]: The human meets Sans and Papyrus. Papyrus repeatedly tries to capture the human with his puzzles. The human can date Papyrus after his battle. The exit to Waterfall is at the eastern edge of town.

16. #16Location Entry

    Keys: Waterfall, Garbage Dump, Temmie Village

    [Atmosphere]: A dark, serene, and beautiful area characterized by glowing blue water, echo flowers that repeat the last sounds they heard, and bioluminescent mushrooms. The sound of dripping water is constant. The area feels vast, quiet, and somewhat depressing, with few monsters living here. [Layout & Key Areas]: Waterfall is a winding path that generally descends deeper into the earth. Key areas include a dark grassy area where Undyne is first encountered, a system of docks, a garbage dump where the human falls, Napstablook's house, and the hidden Temmie Village.[8, 9] The layout can be confusing, with paths that loop back on themselves and dark rooms lit only by mushrooms or lanterns.[9] [Puzzles & Encounters]: Puzzles include using "bridge seeds" to create paths across water, a piano puzzle where the melody is learned from a statue holding an umbrella, and navigating dark rooms by lighting up mushrooms.[8, 9, 10] This is where Undyne relentlessly pursues the human. Other notable encounters include Monster Kid, the Mad Dummy, and Temmie. [Key Events]: Undyne chases the human, attacking with spears from above and below. The human falls into the Garbage Dump and must fight the Mad Dummy. The history of the war between humans and monsters is revealed on ancient glyphs. The human can befriend Undyne by giving her a cup of water after she collapses from heat exhaustion upon entering Hotland.

17. #17Location Entry

    Keys: Hotland, Alphys's Lab, MTT Resort

    [Atmosphere]: A hot, industrial region filled with lava, steam vents, and machinery. The area is dominated by the presence of Dr. Alphys's Lab and the entertainment empire of Mettaton. The environment is metallic, orange, and hazy. [Layout & Key Areas]: Hotland is a multi-level area connected by elevators. It begins at Alphys's Lab. The layout consists of long corridors, conveyor belts, and steam vents that act as jump pads.[11, 12] Key locations include the Lab, Mettaton's various show sets (kitchen, newsroom, stage), Muffet's spider bake sale lair, and the MTT Resort at the end, which contains a hotel and restaurant.[13] [Puzzles & Encounters]: Puzzles are numerous and often integrated into Mettaton's shows. They include block-pushing puzzles where a path must be cleared to shoot a switch, navigating paths with blue and orange lasers, a complex colored tile maze, and defusing bombs.[11, 12, 14] Key characters are Dr. Alphys, who guides the player via phone, and Mettaton, who acts as the primary antagonist. Other bosses include the Royal Guards and Muffet. [Key Events]: The human meets Dr. Alphys. Mettaton forces the human to participate in his deadly TV shows. The human is pursued by the Royal Guards. Muffet attacks the human over a perceived slight against spiders. The area culminates in the path to the CORE.

18. #18Location Entry

    Keys: The CORE, Core

    [Atmosphere]: The CORE is the power source for the entire Underground. It is a highly industrial, metallic, and confusing maze of bridges and corridors with a stark black, blue, and grey color scheme. It feels sterile and dangerous. [Layout & Key Areas]: The CORE is a labyrinthine area that connects Hotland to New Home.[15] Its layout is intentionally confusing, with paths that split and lead to dead ends. The main path involves navigating a large central room with multiple branching bridges. For the purposes of a Genocide run, the CORE and Hotland are considered one large area. [Puzzles & Encounters]: Puzzles are less frequent here, focusing more on navigation and combat. There are several laser puzzles, some of which require timing to pass through flickering laser grids.[15] The enemies here, such as Final Froggit, Whimsalot, and Knight Knight, are stronger "final" versions of monsters from earlier in the game.[15] [Key Events]: The CORE is the final stretch before reaching the capital. The journey culminates in a dramatic final battle against Mettaton, who reveals his humanoid "EX" form.[15] After defeating him, an elevator provides access to New Home.

19. #19Location Entry

    Keys: New Home, Asgore's Castle, Asgore's Home, Judgment Hall, The End

    [Atmosphere]: New Home is the capital of the Underground, but it is eerily quiet and devoid of monsters. The entire area is rendered in grayscale, creating a somber, nostalgic, and melancholic mood. It feels like a place heavy with memory and regret. [Layout & Key Areas]: The area begins with a long, silent corridor leading to a house identical in layout to Toriel's home in the Ruins.[16, 17] This is Asgore's Home. After passing through the house and its basement, another long corridor leads to the "Last Corridor" or "Judgment Hall," a golden, ornate hall with stained-glass windows. Beyond this is the Throne Room, a large chamber filled with golden flowers, and finally, the Barrier itself.[16] [Puzzles & Encounters]: There are no puzzles or random encounters in New Home. The only interactions are narrative. Monsters appear in the hallways to tell the story of Asriel and the first human.[18] [Key Events]: As the human walks through Asgore's Home, the tragic backstory of Asriel and Chara is revealed.[18, 19] In the Judgment Hall, Sans judges the player based on their accumulated EXP and LOVE. The journey culminates in the Throne Room with the final confrontation against King Asgore.[16]

20. #20Location Entry

    Keys: True Lab, Alphys's Secret Lab

    [Atmosphere]: A secret, hidden laboratory beneath Alphys's main lab. It is dark, eerie, and unsettling. The area is filled with malfunctioning equipment, scattered notes, and a pervasive sense of dread and scientific horror. [Layout & Key Areas]: The True Lab is a small but dense area. It consists of a central hub room with a four-colored locked door, and several branching corridors leading to experimental rooms.[20] Key areas include a room with beds, a room with three sinks, a foggy room with fans, and a room with video monitors for watching old tapes.[20] [Puzzles & Encounters]: The main objective is to find four colored keys (red, yellow, green, blue) to open the central door and restore power to the elevator.[20] The "encounters" are with the Amalgamates—failed experiments where monsters melted together after being injected with Determination. These include Memoryhead, Endogeny (a dog-like creature), Lemon Bread, Snowdrake's Mom, and Reaper Bird. They cannot be fought, only pacified through specific ACT sequences.[20] [Key Events]: The True Lab is only accessible on a True Pacifist route. By exploring the lab and reading Alphys's notes, the player uncovers the truth about her experiments with DETERMINATION, the creation of the Amalgamates, and the origin of Flowey.[20] Watching the VHS tapes reveals the story of Asriel and Chara's plan.[18] Restoring power leads to the final sequence of the True Pacifist ending.
