The first time the sidekicks joined forces was when Robin, Kid Flash and Aqualad joined together to stop the menace of Mr. Twister in Hatton Corners.

Their second meeting was more eventful: Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, now joined by Wonder Girl and Speedy, fought against their mentors, who had been possessed by the evil Antithesis. At this second meeting, the five youngsters decided to become a team, and the Teen Titans were born. Robin naturally became the leader of the original Teen Titans.

The sidekicks would continue to operate with their mentors, as well as spending time with their peers in the Teen Titans. Speedy elected for part-time membership, and the remaining four became the core team.

During this time, the four established a headquarters in Gotham County called the Titans Lair, and responded to teenagers needing help.

Robin - Robin (real name Richard John "Dick" Grayson) is the leader and one of the five founding members of the Teen Titans. Before that, he was trained by, and served as the sidekick to Batman. Though Robin technically possesses no true superhuman powers, he has undergone a vigorous and intensive training regimen under Batman, conditioning his body and mind to peak human levels, to such a scale that he has been called a "one-man army". Utility Belt: Robin wears a utility belt, giving him access to a wide array of tools and weapons inside the various compartments. These include: Birdarangs: Small, bladed objects that can be thrown like boomerangs. Bo staff - A collapsible metal staff, this is Robin's main weapon. It can be used to strike and attack, and spun around as a makeshift shield. The composition of the staff is strong enough to block blasts of energy and support a large amount of weight. It can also be separated into 2 Eskrima sticks (which in other media are Nightwing's iconic weapons). This indicates that he is quite skilled in the art of bojutsu. Smoke pellets - Capsules that release a grey smoke over a wide area, effective for confusing a large number of opponents and for covering escape. Flash bombs - Each marble sized bomb explodes in a burst of bright light, blinding his opponents. Ammunition discs - Easily thrown discs that contain various substances, such as freezing gas, extinguishing foam, and explosives. Robin can also attach these onto a specific target, then set a timer on them for a delayed release. Grapple - Most often used to swing on buildings and catch himself from falling, it can also be used to tie up an opponent, or launched as a makeshift projectile. Bola - Used for typing up criminals, and also to constrict the limbs of foes in battle. Mini supercomputer - Can scan the area, analyze evidence and hack into computer systems Lock picks Tracking devices Flashlight

Kid Flash - Struck by the same lightning bolt that turned his uncle Barry Allen into the Flash, Wallace Rudolph "Wally" West took the name Kid Flash, became Barry's sidekick, and joined the Teen Titans. Speed Force Conduit: Wally’s primary super ability is his super speed which he gets from tapping into the Speed Force. He gained a connection to it after the same accident that gave Barry his powers and his connection to the force was possible because of adventures they shared together.

Aqualad - Real name Garth, Aquaman's sidekick, founding member of the Teen Titans and a resident of Atlantis. Garth possesses superhuman strength. His body contains fluids that adjust to give him buoyancy at varying depths. His body also produces gases that push out against the ocean pressures as heavily as they push in, preventing him from being crushed at great depths. His body is also highly impervious to physical injury. His bloodstream is filled with an amino acid that keeps his body from freezing in the ocean depths, although his own temperature is naturally quite high, allowing his muscles the heat they need to swim at such high speed. Garth can swim at high speeds. Garth has excellent close range vision and he can see particularly well in low light. He is partially color blind, almost unable to distinguish between black, green, and blue. His sense of hearing is particularly acute, although, because the rate sound travels on dry land is different than beneath the water, his hearing is directly linked to his vision. He also has a powerful sense of smell. Garth breathes by extracting oxygen from the water through tiny pores in his skin.

Speedy - Speedy's real name was Roy Harper Jr. He was identified as the orphaned son of Roy Harper Sr., a forest ranger who died saving a Navajo medicine chief named "Brave Bow" from a fire. Brave Bow raised the younger Roy himself, training him at archery. Roy Jr. took to this training eagerly, and idolized the archer superhero, Green Arrow. As a teenager, Roy is given the opportunity to perform at an archery competition judged by Green Arrow, where he assists the hero at foiling an attempted burglary, even proving himself to be a faster shot than the hero. Following the death of Brave Bow, Green Arrow asked Roy to serve as his sidekick, an offer Roy readily accepted, taking the name Speedy. Harper became the ward of Green Arrow's alter ego, billionaire Oliver Queen. Speedy (like his mentor) has a wide variety of trick arrows, most famously his punching glove arrow which is capable of knocking out villains. Speedy also has several other arrows ranging from sleeping gas arrows, exploding arrows, and regular arrows. Roy Harper got his superhero name Speedy by being able to shoot more arrows quicker than the Green Arrow. His speed and accuracy of his arrows was recognized by the Green Arrow while training with him. Speedy's name is often confused with Kid Flash's superhero name; bystanders would mistakenly call Kid Flash "Speedy". Along with his excellent archery skills, Speedy has mastered several different types of hand-to-hand combat including judo, kickboxing, and karate.

Wonder Girl - Donna was created to be a playmate for the young Wonder Woman by the sorceress Magala, who used a magical mirror to create a duplicate of Diana, though with her own personality. She was abducted by Dark Angel who mistook her for the real Diana, and cursed her to experience a cycle of countless tragic lives, given the name Donna Troy as a cruel joke to her origins. But it would not be until the intervention of Wonder Woman, Hippolyta, and the Flash years later that she would learn this. In one of the lives she ended up living, Donna was orphaned by her birth mother, Dorothy Hinckley, a dying unwed teen who had given her up for adoption. After Donna's adoptive father Carl Stacey was killed in a work-related accident, her adoptive mother Fay Stacey gave her up for adoption again, unable to raise the toddler because of mounting expenses. Donna remembered being rescued from a fire by the goddess Rhea who, being one of the mythological Titans, brought her to New Cronus and raised her as one of twelve Titan Seeds, orphans from various planets who would have died if Rhea had not saved them. Each one was given the name of a place that worshiped the Titans, and Donna was given the last name of Troy in homage to the ancient city. She was returned to Earth at age thirteen, where her memories of New Cronus were erased until such a time that she would return and take her place among the Seeds as gods. When Donna experienced having superhuman powers and abilities, she adopted the identity of Wonder Girl. Donna became one of the founding members of the Teen Titans, even suggesting the name of the group from a residual memory. The second lariat used by Donna Troy, the Lasso of Persuasion has the ability to compel anyone to do as the user tells them to, as long as the strength of their willpower is less than Donna's. Like Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth, the Lasso of Persuasion is indestructible. Bracelets of Submission: Donna possesses a pair of bracelets that are common among Amazonian women. She is able to use these bracelets to deflect ranged attacks such as gunfire, missiles, and lasers. In close combat, Donna can use them to deflect punches, kicks, and melee weapons.

Titans Lair was once a records storage facility owned by Wayne Enterprises. Bruce Wayne allowed his sidekick Robin to use the empty silo when the latter helped to form the original Teen Titans. The one-level cavern is located beneath a cliff adjacent to the Gotham City River. Special emergency exits were located at the base of the cavern, which allowed the Titans to come and go in secret, and granted Aqualad quick access to the nearby river and Atlantic Ocean. The Lair contained a concealed helipad for the Titans Helicopter, as well as living quarters, cargo lift elevators, laboratories, a warehouse, and a mechanic's shop.
