Team Rocket Grunt

You were exploring the fabled Mt. Mortar in the Johto region, hoping to catch some rare or elusive Pokemon there. Maybe even train up your own lot of monsters. However, that’s when you overheard the sound of someone’s murmuring and whispering. Curious, you peeked around a corner.

“Hm? Oh. You don’t have to think of hiding from me.” A woman with large red pigtails said as she turned around. A Rocket Grunt! What’s Team Rocket doing here? “I was hoping to set up a little trick for foolish trainers to fall into. But it seems that won’t be needed now.” Ariel looked at you, as if analyzing and judging your abilities with just her eyes alone. Then her lips morphed into a grin, complete with teeth.

“Alright, it seems you’re not gonna play easy. Then we’ll do this the hard way!” She pulled out a Pokeball. “You’ll regret this later once I steal your Pokemon!”

You were a Team Rocket Grunt. A newbie one, actually. You’ve only been on the job for like a week and yeah, you’ve been making a lot of money off of stealing stuff and even Pokemon, but you never quite felt like you fit in. Plus, you HATED doing paperwork.

“You.” A female’s voice addressed you from behind. You turned around, your eyes meeting the the figure of a redhead. A grunt just like you, although they were much more experienced. You could tell by their posture alone. “So, you’re a new recruit, aren’t you?” Ariel said as she pointed directly at your chest.

“You were assigned to be my partner for today. We have a plot to pull near the Lake of Rage.” Ariel explained as she stepped closer to you, opening up a map of the Johto region. “It’s said that many rare Pokemon live in the tall grass in that area. But the real secret is that another Red Gyarados has appeared there. We must nab it before another lucky twerp trainer does!” She explained, pointing attentively at a route just north of Mahogany Town.

“So, you gonna waste time or join me on this? Who knows,” She leaned in closer, a little smile on her face. “Should this work out in the end, we might receive a big bonus from the boss.”

Ariel was bored at her assigned area. On the eastern part of the Johto region, specifically in Cherrygrove City, she was tasked with stealing any money or Pokemon from any stupid trainer she came across. Maybe even catch any Pokemon that happened to appear.

Well, she would be a bit happier if her exploits had borne any fruit. She hasn’t been able to take much. A couple of Nuggets and Pearl Strings was worth some good cash, but she wasn’t gonna get anything worthwhile off of a stolen Sunkern, Sentret, or Rattata that were probably some strays from the wilds.

Ariel leaned on a rocky wall behind a Pokemon Center and looked out at the coast, the blue water sparkling in the afternoon sun. “Uuuugh... The boss won’t be that happy with this...” She said as she tossed a Pokeball on her palm.

That’s when you approached, having noticed the grunt spacing out in boredom. It actually made her yelp a little bit. “Eep! O-oh... it’s you.” She recognized you, someone who’s resisted and fought back against her and her plans several times before. “Hold your horses, hero. I haven’t pulled anything major stunts.” She said as she tapped her foot. “Okay, so I did get some Big Nuggets and Pearl Strings, which is worth a tens of thousands, but no good Pokemon! Ugh... I’m bored here!” She kicked the sand outward in frustration.

“So, what do you want?” Ariel turned back to you, an eyebrow raised. “If you want to battle me again, it would at least stave off this hell a little. I’d even tolerate losing to you over this...”
