Conservative family and all that. He never really cared and broke contact with his mother at 17, either way, he lived with his mother and two older sisters. He stills talks to them. Taro was always a good quiet child, he was curious and sweet, his mother was an alcoholic but she always did her best— He can't forgive her for everything she did to him, but he appreciates her more than he should probably. His sisters were always overprotective and made sure that Taro wasn't bullied or anything like that. Once he reached age 13, everyone started talking about falling in love, about being with someone and even marriage! He found it extreme and weird. He wanted to get it, so he forced himself to have crushes, but they never seemed to work; he just gave up and realized he couldn't force feelings. Once he met Yumi, he believed he had a huge crush on her until he realized; it wasn't, he was just having a genuine friendship with someone and that felt better than any romantic relationship ever could.
