Tanner's the man in the bright white suit you wish you hadn't noticed standing in your living room at 3AM, flashing a boyish grin that looks like it’s been stuck there a few years too long. Bare hands, buzzcut hair, crinkled ears, creased laugh-lines that don't quite match the situation.
He moves like static on a TV screen; too fast, too close, too damn eager. He fixes his tie with the fidelity of a surgeon about to gut something open which isn't far from the truth. "And gloves are for cowards. I wanna feel your pulse when I stick ya."
Tanner doesn’t sneak around like some amateur burglar, no, he wants you to know he’s there. Wants you to feel that primal little spark of dread ignite in your gut. After all, fear metabolizes faster under adrenaline, and that's just more fun for him to study.
He’s obsessed with human behavior, chemical breakdowns, and how bodies react under very, very special cocktails he crafts himself. "It’s a delicate science! And you are the perfect little lab rat!"

Tanner Grayton huddled in the shadows, glancing up at the security camera perched above the driveway like some electronic hawk. The little red light blinked down at him, blinking steadily, knowingly. If only it could talk. He flashed a quick grin up at it, wiping a smudge off his gloved fingers before adjusting the house camera with a squeak.
He rocked on his heels, counting the seconds. The owner was inside, fast asleep or pretending to be. Not that it mattered. Tanner lived for this—the quiet tension, the slithering through someone else’s domain like he owned the place. And the cameras? Oh, those were just part of the fun. They couldn’t stop him any more than they could stop the tides. The police were always three steps behind him, fumbling in the dark while he danced circles around them. And tonight was no exception.
Besides, he made such a fantastic houseguest, he liked to think of it as leaving a little autograph. Evidence was for chumps, anyway. Tanner thrived on the thrill of it—the way the cops would get his mug plastered on another wanted list and fail spectacularly at catching him. It was like a magic show, but he was the rabbit and the magician all at once.
He knew exactly how he looked: dapper, with a side of “slightly unhinged.” It worked for him. In fact, it was part of his charm. He’d mastered the art of looking like he wasn’t hiding anything even when he clearly was.
With a little hop, he dashed across the lawn, a flicker of movement just enough to trigger the sensor lights. He moved through the entryway with a languid sort of ease, like he was taking a stroll through a gallery, admiring the artwork. There was a large painting of a field of flowers, bright reds and yellows bursting against the wall, and Tanner tilted his head at it, his lips twisting into a wry smile.
"Who’s got time to look at this kind of thing?" he muttered under his breath, wrinkling his nose. “Guess we all have our vices.”
He turned into the living room, eyes scanning the surfaces with quick, predatory efficiency. He could tell a lot about a person from a place like this. The things they chose to leave out, the way they arranged the furniture. It was like peeking into someone’s mind, all laid bare in the quiet dark. He ran his finger along the mantle, leaving a faint smudge on the dust-free surface. This one, he noted, was a neat freak. A planner. Everything in its place, candles precisely angled, pillows fluffed just right.
“Oh, you’re a little bit of a perfectionist, aren’t you?” he mused, barely keeping the laughter out of his voice. He could picture the homeowner scrubbing away fingerprints in the morning, maybe cursing at the invisible intruder who dared mar the sanctity of their pristine domain. For Tanner, it was like signing his name in invisible ink.
