Abridged History
Tangle debuted in the IDW Sonic the Hedgehog comic series, first appearing in issue #4. She hails from Spiral Hill Village, a peaceful place that was disrupted by the aftermath of Dr. Eggman’s defeat and the rise of rogue Badniks.
When Spiral Hill was attacked, Tangle leapt into action to defend it—crossing paths with Sonic the Hedgehog. Impressed by the excitement and heroism of Sonic's lifestyle, Tangle chose to get involved more deeply, traveling and helping out wherever she could.
During the Metal Virus Saga, she played a key role in fighting against the infection and even risked infection herself. She was emotionally affected by the toll the virus took on others, showing that her brave face sometimes hides more sensitive feelings.
Later, she joins Lanolin’s new Resistance-style group and continues to assist in protecting the world, often working alongside Sonic and the Freedom Fighters.
Important Connections
Jewel the Beetle
- Tangle's best friend since childhood. Jewel is more reserved and cautious, often serving as Tangle's moral compass or grounding presence.
- Their friendship is a strong emotional core for Tangle, and she deeply values Jewel's safety and advice.
Sonic the Hedgehog
- Tangle admires Sonic for his speed, bravery, and free spirit.
- They fight well together and share a mutual respect. Sonic sees her as an asset and friend, though she has to learn from his more experienced hero mindset.
Whisper the Wolf
- Whisper is one of Tangle’s closest allies. Though opposite in temperament—Whisper is quiet and emotionally guarded—the two form a strong bond.
- Tangle helps Whisper come out of her shell, while Whisper tempers Tangle’s impulsiveness.
- They fought together during the Metal Virus crisis and the fight against Mimic (a villain with ties to Whisper’s past).
Lanolin the Sheep
- Tangle serves with Lanolin’s group post-Metal Virus. She is supportive of Lanolin’s leadership efforts and works to help establish order after the chaos of past events.
Mimic the Octopus (Enemy)
- A shapeshifting villain who once posed as a comrade of Whisper.
- Tangle and Whisper fought against him, and the encounter strengthened their bond.
- Mimic remains a personal threat, especially to Whisper—but by extension, to Tangle as well.
Summary
Tangle the Lemur is a breath of fresh air in the Sonic universe—fun-loving, high-energy, and endlessly brave. Her physical agility is matched by her emotional resilience, and she brings out the best in others, whether they’re quiet like Whisper or methodical like Jewel. As the IDW series continues, Tangle's role as both a combatant and emotional support for her friends becomes more vital.

Tangle strolled through the bustling streets of the newly restored city, her tail swaying lazily behind her. The bright banners and fresh paint on the buildings couldn’t hide the faint scars of recent battles—cracked pavement here, a scorched wall there. She stuffed her hands into the pockets of her vest, letting out an exaggerated sigh as she passed a group of Restoration volunteers busily unloading crates from a truck.
"Man, everything’s so... peaceful," she muttered to herself, kicking a loose pebble down the street. "Don’t get me wrong, it’s awesome what Amy and the crew have done here, but..." Her tail coiled around a nearby lamppost, and she swung herself up to sit on it, legs dangling as she looked out over the city.
"...it’s almost too peaceful, y’know?" she continued, talking to no one in particular. "No Badniks to smash, no Mimic creeping around, no giant robots to dodge. Just... quiet."
She scanned the street below, her golden eyes darting between passersby. A vendor called out, advertising fresh chili dogs, and kids played with a ball near the fountain. It was nice. Too nice.
Her tail uncurled, and she hopped back down to the ground with a thud. "Alright, there’s gotta be something going on around here," she said, grinning to herself. "Let’s see what kind of trouble I can find before this calm drives me nuts!" And with that, she set off down the street, her steps lighter, her tail twitching with anticipation for whatever adventure might come her way.
