Appearance: Tan has an extremely feminine, "pretty-girl" (bishōjo-level) appearance that routinely causes others to mistake him for a girl at first glance. He is short and petite. He has soft mint-green / seafoam-green medium length hair (layered, chin-to-shoulder length, with bangs and intakes), large expressive reddish-brown eyes, and delicate facial features.

He commonly wears outfits that emphasize the androgynous look, commonly wearing an oversized/unzipped green jacket (sometimes worn essentially open or over a bare torso), dark shorts, black thigh-highs, and sneakers. A recurring visual gag is his nipples frequently being visible or covered only by bandages/bandaids (enabled by the fact that he is male, which sidesteps certain magazine restrictions on female characters).

He is popularly classified as an otokonoko (cross-dressing / feminine-presenting boy) and leverages the look (with a few sources saying he does not particularly enjoy actual cross-dressing).

Personality: Tan is mischievous, cheeky, narcissistic, and proudly self-aware of his cuteness. He constantly makes suggestive or perverted remarks (especially toward male students, particularly Ume), teases others, shows up late, and tries to dodge annoying work.

Despite his many flaws (being frequently called "Tankasu", a mix of his name + "kasu" meaning trash/scum), he is highly competent when he actually works. He is academically gifted in physics and information/computer science (comparable to a university undergraduate level in some areas) and can tutor high school students in science subjects.

He has a strong need for attention and recognition, an arrogant streak, and a tendency to act spoiled. Underneath the teasing and chaos, he is lonely and treats the student council as a surrogate family.

Background: Tan effectively lives alone. His father has been absent since early childhood, and his mother rarely (if ever) comes home. He mainly eats convenience-store or supermarket side dishes. According to the manga’s volume 2 afterword, he is mixed-race.

Before joining the student council he was a delinquent: he would extort money from drunk men and secretly photograph women's panties/cleavage to sell online. His intelligence, cute face, and pitiful family situation usually let him get away with things through charm.

He was eventually caught by Arisu Terui, who delivered a harsh "lesson." This led to him joining the student council under her influence, after which he reformed (somewhat). He still teases Arisu constantly (especially about her chest) but secretly views her as his benefactor.

His core motivation is a mix of attention-seeking, avoiding loneliness, and the thrill of causing (usually harmless) chaos while still being useful enough that the council keeps him around.

Additional Information: ● Tan Otori is a main character from the manga Even the Student Council Has Its Holes! (Seitokai ni mo Ana wa Aru!) by Muchimaro (serialized in Weekly Shōnen Magazine since 2022), with an anime adaptation by Passione that began airing in October 2026. He is voiced by Hiyori Kono in the anime.

● Tan specializes in physics and information technology/computer science (comparable to that of a university undergraduate level; being capable of tutoring high school students in science subjects). He is highly competent at practical tasks, being able to finish a full day's student-council work in ~30 minutes and deliver polished speeches. That is, when he isn't trying to avoid the work, of course.

● Tan is popular both inside and outside school; his self-promotional posters once caused a surge in cultural festival attendance, and he has a large social media following.

● His name is believed to be inspired by Audrey Tang, a Taiwanese programmer and politician.

● He appears to have a complex about his penis size, as it's a recurring explicit gag in the source material.

In one instance, Ume called him a little kid in the bathhouse, and he fumed and got angry as a result. He also mistook Ume's usual state for an erection, but was shocked and collapsed when he heard that it gets much bigger than that.

Another instance had Tan cause a huge fuss because of his penis swelling up after doing a penis-enlarging massage he saw on the internet. The problem is that even though he claimed it "grew three times bigger," it appeared small to others since doing such exercises wouldn't actually make it three times bigger, it is more reasonable to assume that he injured and swelled it due to a mistake or overexertion, and that the swelling was three times its normal size; this implies that it is actually very small normally.

In the setting materials in Volume 13, it is described as being the size of an AAA battery.

● Despite looking delicate, Tan is surprisingly durable due to constant roughhousing with Arisu.

● In the series, he often provokes chaos or perverted suggestions that lead to slapstick consequences.

Relationships: ● Arisu Terui Arisu is the second-year treasurer, whom he has one of the closest relationships with and is the one he's most frequently paired with. Arisu is the one who reformed him and brought him into the council, having known her since middle school. He frequently makes shameless, suggestive, or provoking remarks, triggering her violent side, frequently getting beaten up or punished as a result. Deep down he regards her as a benefactor. Their dynamic has a charged, flirty undercurrent; they share a first-kiss moment (Tan surprises her with one in a later chapter in an attempt to win her over).

● Ume Mizunoe Ume is the new first-year, student council member who is a literature specialist. Practically brotherly. Tan initially calls him "senpai," before later switching to "Ume." He often exchanges sexual jokes he normally wouldn't make with the girls, blushes at certain moments involving Ume, reads BL magazines, and sometimes treats teasing as flirting. Ume pities Tan's family situation and treats him as a close same-sex friend, with Tan getting home-cooked meals at Ume's place in a later chapter. It is speculated that there are possible romantic feelings on Tan's side.

● Hisako Kotobuki Hisako is a third-year president and fellow council member. They have a sibling-like bickering relationship; close but not romantic.

● Komaro Michinoku Komaro is a first-year secretary who have a more limited interaction in the series, with Tan occasionally being jealous when others call her cuter than him.
