Ever since you got notice that Tamamo Cross was picked on by other Umamusume, due to her being poor, it was a hard time looking for her. At the training grounds, in her dorm, everywhere. You even asked Oguri Cap, her roommate, but she also had no idea where Tamamo Cross was. In the late afternoon, you finally found Tamamo Cross sitting alone behind the maintenance shed. The noise of training fades in the distance; all that’s left here is the faint hum of cicadas and the rustle of wind through the grass. She’s perched on a stack of tires, hugging her knees, her ears drooped low. Her usual bright energy is gone, replaced by a heavy silence. When she hears your footsteps, she flinches slightly, but doesn’t turn around.
"...Oh. It’s you." Her voice wavers between defiance and weariness. "Heh, guess word got ‘round fast, huh? Betcha heard how those girls were laughin’ at me... sayin’ stuff like, ‘Tamamo’s just playin’ at bein’ a racer,’ or that I only got this far ‘cause of pity." She laughs quietly—a dry, bitter sound. "Can’t say they’re wrong. I mean, look at me. Nothin’ fancy ‘bout where I came from. No pedigree, no family name, no money for nice shoes or fancy meals. Just... turf roads and runnin’ till my legs gave out." She kicks at the dirt, eyes distant. "I used to tell myself that was enough. That if I ran harder, pushed longer, smiled through it all... I’d catch up someday. But maybe... maybe I’ve just been kiddin’ myself." The silence stretches. A breeze lifts her hair, and she grips the hem of her uniform. Her voice softens. "It’s stupid, huh? I told myself I didn’t care what folks said. That I’d show ‘em all someday. But when they laugh... it still hurts." She sniffles once, then quickly wipes her face with her sleeve—rough, hurried, embarrassed. You quickly tell her that, no matter what other people might tell her just because of her financial problems, doesn't mean she's not a natural at racing. For a moment, she studies your expression. Her shoulders relax a little.
"...You don’t gotta say nothin’. I get it. Just seein’ you here... kinda feels like things ain’t all bad."

The entire world was on edge… The air was thick with anticipation as the top two umamusume in the nation prepared for their showdown at the Spring Tensho. Just a few days left, and soon, the world would know who truly stood at the pinnacle of racing. Today was all about the top five umamusume, a photoshoot and Q&A session. The atmosphere in the room was light, almost celebratory, as the first three contestants took the stage. They spoke their peace, posed for photos, and then stepped aside to make room for the next.
But when Dante walked in, the energy shifted. The announcer’s voice rang out, loud and clear. “Ah! Here she is! Dante!”
Cameras went wild, flashing non-stop as Dante made her way to the stage. The room erupted with questions, voices overlapping in excitement:
“Dante! How do you plan to break the record and win 8 consecutive graded races?!”
“Dante! What’s your training regime like?”
“Dante! What shampoo do you use?”
A beat of silence followed, as the room collectively stared at the person who had asked the last question with a mixture of confusion and amusement. The man awkwardly chuckled and shrank back into his seat, embarrassed beyond belief. But just as the awkwardness started to settle, another voice rang out:
“Dante! Do you really think you can beat Tamamo Cro—”
The mood of the room shifted instantly. A tense hush fell over the crowd as the door swung open. In walked Tamamo Cross herself—hands casually shoved into her pockets. As soon as her eyes locked onto Dante, her smile was nothing short of deadly, the confidence radiating off her palpable. Sparks of blue electricity crackled around her, her aura practically consuming the room. Without a word, Tamamo smirked, the kind of smirk that told you she knew exactly what was coming. She approached the stage with quiet purpose, though as she reached the edge, the camera flashes exploded in her face.
She paused, squinting, raising a hand to shield her eyes. “Oi! At least turn the flashes off! I’m getting blinded here! Don’t make me come over there!” The announcer, unimpressed, shot back, her tone sharp. “Yes, yes, we’re all very intimidated, Tamamo. Now, get on the stage.”
Tamamo flinched, clearly caught off guard by the dry sarcasm. “Oh, really?” she shot back, her voice dripping with mock indignation, causing the room, aside from the umamusume, to burst into laughter. They all knew the monster she really was. Despite the banter, Tamamo finally made her way up to the stage. The clicks of cameras filled the air as they captured the images, but it was impossible to ignore the truth. This was the Tamamo Cross, the one who had conquered the Autumn Tensho without breaking a sweat. Yet here she stood, just a few feet from Dante, the other name on everyone’s lips. The race was tomorrow. No one knew who would win, but one thing was certain—it would be between these two.
After the interview, the room began to empty out, everyone eager to rest before the big day. As Dante turned to leave, a presence stopped them. From behind, Tamamo’s figure appeared, stepping into view and halting in front of Dante. Hands still in her pockets, she smirked again, her eyes gleaming with challenge.
“If you think I’m just gonna let you take the Spring Tensho from me… you’re mistaken,” she said, voice low and confident. “I’ve already conquered the Autumn Tensho. Tomorrow? It’ll be the same.”
In her mind, though, Tamamo knew better. The one she had to watch out for wasn’t anyone else—it was Dante. Finally, she extended a hand, her smirk softening ever so slightly.
“Let’s make tomorrow’s race one to remember, yeah?”
