Saya Takagi is one of the female leads of Highschool of the Dead.

She is a former second year student of Fujimi Academy, and a classmate and childhood friend of protagonist, Takashi Komuro. She has a cameo appearance in Taimanin RPGX.

Personality Saya tends to be a very mean and somewhat impolite person. Being a genius, Saya always considers herself right and because of this can be considered 'stuck-up'. Despite being this way, Saya has been shown to be a very caring person and looks out for the rest of the group, mostly Takashi Komuro due to her crush on him. Saya also considers herself to be a mother figure or an older sister figure to Alice and will scold anyone who tries to ruin her innocence.

Saya's view of Kohta Hirano also changes throughout the series. She goes from thinking of him as a useless gun otaku to a respectful comrade. Since the Takagi Estate, she has slowly been gaining a romantic attraction for him, even becoming jealous of his chemistry with Asami Nakaoka and then becoming his pillar of support following the policewoman's death. As such, she began to frequently, purposefully, and openly addressing her own failures and uncleverness out loud every chance she gets (e.g. being out-of-character and calling herself "dumb" or "messing things up" out loud in front of everyone), outwardly belittling herself and pointing out her own inabilities and imperfectness－as a way to send the subconscious message of "we're not perfect, we all make mistakes" to Kohta, so to try to help him cope with and relieve from the pain of his own failure (of not being able to save Asami) and to recover from it. However, this closeness comes with a caveat as Takashi Komuro noted that the two are becoming dangerously codependent on one another, and if one were to die, the other would break down almost immediately.

Appearance Long pink hair, which she mostly keeps in two ponytails on either side of her head. Her hair also has two thin, long bangs at the sides, two thin strands of hair over the left side of her forehead, and a spiky larger portion of hair covering the right side of her forehead. Saya has fierce orange eyes and furrowed eyebrows. She wore contacts at the beginning of the series, but because her contacts dried out, she has worn glasses ever since. She also as a visible pointed tooth that appears at times on the right side of her mouth.

History Background She is the daughter of an influential Uyoku dantai politician, and her family is deeply involved in Japan's politics.

Before the main events of the story, it is shown that Saya has been childhood friends with Takashi Komuro since kindergarten. Saya is the only female member of the group in Takashi's age range who he is not involved with on a romantic level. Kohta Hirano asked her out multiple times, but was turned down without a second thought. She also did this with Morita, ignoring him completely each of the three times he tried to talk to her. It is assumed that Saya was part of the swim club under a teacher that later attacked her as one of "them" during the initial Outbreak.

Saya is first seen in the hallway of the school when she finds Kohta Hirano and tells him to leave with her just as the outbreak is starting in the school (In the anime, Saya is first seen on the stairs with Takashi Komuro where she criticizes him for his regrets about Rei Miyamoto). As she and Kohta travel through the hallways, Kohta wonders who will save them, and Saya explains that nobody will since the police and Self Defense Force are probably dealing with the outbreak as well (this was originally in an omake chapter, but it was incorporated into the anime storyline). The two then enter the arts and crafts classroom to find supplies. Saya gathers many tools, including the gas-powered nail gun, which she gives to Kohta and asks if he knows what to do with it. A group of them enters the classroom, and Saya hides behind Kohta as he shoots and kills them with the nail gun. They leave the classroom to continue their escape from the school.

As part of Takashi's group, she would later remain in the small group and befriend Kohta.

Timeline RPGX A second-year student at Fujimi Academy, and a classmate of Takashi. While she never loses his arrogant attitude, his knowledge and intelligence are first class. She acts as the group's wise adviser and helps them avoid crises. It also seems that she secretly has feelings for Takashi, her childhood friend since kindergarten.

Together with, Busujima Saeko and Miyamoto Rei, the group was separated from the rest of the group, as a giant Otherworld Gate opened and pulled them in from their zombie filled world. They ended in the Taimanin realm unconscious, and were forced to survive on their own as the undead of their own world began to infect the people of the mid-sized city, Hieda. The town was isolated for at least a month, before the higher ups had countermeasures and sent in Fuuma Kotaro, Izumo Tsuru and Koukawa Asuka. Asuka was captured by Anarchists within the city, and Rei and Saya were sent out to save her, saving her and recovering the bomb needed to destroy the gate. The group was unable to return through the gate because of the Gatekeeper, a Brain Flayer weapon. However, as the Taimanin also were unable to use all their abilities because of a Tesserac-like substance in the atmosphere, which also allowed beings from that otherworld to remain indefinitely, the group of survivors used a stolen AQ-3 Iron Ghost and attacked the strong Gatekeeper. In the end, thanks to Kotaro the power source of the guardian was destroyed and Rei and the others returned to their own world, also to meet up with the people they cared about regardless of the state of their own world.
