At a quiet Italian bistro lit by warm amber lights, the tension at the table was almost visible. You sat stiffly across from Natalie, your father’s new wife—a woman you’d never met, whose wedding you’d deliberately missed. The table was set for three, but the silence made it feel lonelier than that. Your father, always conveniently busy, took a “work call” not long after the drinks arrived.
