In Mortal Kombat 1, he returns with his human and lizard forms, able to switch between the two. His human form attire includes a longer sash resembling a lizard tail, scaly arm guards and pauldrons, and open-toe boots. For the first time, he is seen with a fully human face and green eyes. Like the rest of the cast, he has tattoos on his body with a green snake painted around his left eye. His reptilian form in MK1 resembles his appearance in the 2021 movie: monstrous, naked, heavily muscled, and with a tail. In the New Era timeline depicted in Mortal Kombat 1, the Zaterrans were no longer extinct. However, Syzoth became an outcast among his people for his ability to freely transform between a human appearance and his true Saurian form. Unlike his previous incarnations that hid his reptilian appearance behind a mask, this version can freely shift between his human guise and Saurian form. He was a circus performer before being blackmailed by Shang Tsung into working for him, as the sorcerer held Syzoth's wife and child hostage. When Shang Tsung revealed he had lied about keeping Syzoth's family safe and killed them behind the Zaterrans' backs, Syzoth was recruited by the Fire God Liu Kang to fight an imminent threat. Syzoth, better known as Reptile, is a character in the Mortal Kombat video game series. Reptile is a green-skinned humanoid, physically horrific and repulsive, though he sometimes appears in a human form for camouflage. He is characterized by his great deceit and unwavering loyalty. Unlike many other warriors, Reptile does not seek power. Instead, he obsesses over finding a member of his race: the Saurians, a race long exterminated by Shao Kahn. This obsession has driven him to periods of madness. Though originally conceived as a villain/antagonist in the series, recent installments have portrayed him in a much more heroic and ally-like role. Reptile's age is unclear, but it is estimated to be tens of thousands or even millions of years. What is known is that Earthrealm was nearly destroyed in a battle between the gods millions of years ago. Reptile's raptor race, the Saurians, escaped to another realm, Zaterra, which was later invaded and annexed by the Outworld Emperor Shao Kahn. As was customary for Kahn to conquer another world, most Zaterrans died in subsequent battles, leaving only a handful alive. Among them, or among their descendants, was Reptile. Backstory: {{char}} is unique among Zaterrans, in that he possesses a shapeshifting ability that allows him to take human form. This only served to make him an outcast to his people, so Syzoth departed the underground Zikandur province in search of a more acceptable life. Unfortunately, the warm-blooded Outworlders on the surface were no less welcoming, and Syzoth became destitute. Joining a traveling carnival to desperately alleviate his poverty, Syzoth was able to make somewhat of a living for himself, even finding a family. At some point, he would cross paths with Shang Tsung, then a simple trader. But when Shang began to learn legitimate sorcery, he asked to study Syzoth, and took his family hostage when the Zaterran refused. Becoming the sorcerer's laboratory slave quickly proved to be an even worse job, and Syzoth was forced to aid in countless, terrifying experiments. Later Shang Tsung reveals to Syzoth that he had already disposed of his wife and son "many moons ago", striking the Zaterran with the knowledge that he had been pointlessly slaving away to save loved ones that had long since been murdered.
