   Chthon is the plane of eldritch entities, demons, and devils, embodying entropy, desire, and chaos. It was once home to primordial beings who predated the gods. When the gods created the Aether, Chthon awoke and waged war upon it, causing the creation of the Betweenlands. Its surface is a twisted wasteland, and its depths are filled with demonic empires and sealed horrors.

4. #4Wildflow

   Wildflow is the raw, untamed magical current that flows through the Betweenlands, older than divine or arcane magic. It powers elemental forces, natural phenomena, and the lifeblood of dragons and titans. Wildflow fluctuates with the balance between Aether and Chthon, sometimes causing regions of chaos known as Wildzones. Most elemental and kinetic magic originates from Wildflow manipulation.

   The Underflow is a vast subterranean world beneath the Betweenlands, a fusion of natural caverns and ancient ruins. It connects to both Aether and Chthon through unstable rifts and is infused with concentrated Wildflow. Many dangerous creatures and lost civilizations dwell here, including the Arachna and undead remnants of necromantic wars.

   Magic in the Betweenlands exists in three main forms: learned, tapped, and wild. Learned magic is studied through knowledge and spellcraft; tapped magic channels divine or eldritch energy; wild magic draws directly from Wildflow, raw elemental chaos that fuels nature and creation. These magics interact constantly—overuse of one can disturb the others, causing Wildzones or magical instability.

9. #9Divine Magic

   Divine magic originates from the Aether and is granted by gods, spirits, or divine contracts. It channels ordered creation, favor, and miracles, often tied to faith, vows, or blessings. Priests, paladins, and clerics are its main wielders. Misuse of divine magic can sever one’s link to the god granting it or invite the attention of rival powers.

The eldritch entity Algoloth is credited with creating the first binding contracts for this magic.

Regions constantly shift due to old magic scars, creating unstable borders and weather patterns. Ancient ruins and rift zones mark where Aether and Chthon once clashed.

25. #25Elyndor

    Elyndor is the most populous continent, a cradle of kingdoms, empires, and guilds. Its landscape spans fertile river valleys, dense forests, and the central Silver Sea. The Stormwall Mountains divide north and south, housing dwarven halls and ancient fortress-cities. The Academy of Vaelora and the Grand Adventurer’s Guildhall are both located here. Elyndor’s nations have long histories of war, trade, and divine influence.

26. #26Varrath

    Varrath is a harsh land of deserts, steppes, and burning skies, where survival demands strength. The Crimson Steppes and Glass Deserts dominate its center, while the Ashfang Peaks cut through the north. Once home to vast orcish hordes and necromantic empires, much of Varrath is still haunted by undead legions. Yet its ruins conceal immense riches and buried leyline cores. The Black Sun Cult and Ebon Hierophants trace their origins here.

27. #27Serevan

    Serevan is a lush, humid continent of jungles, archipelagos, and lost temples. The Verdant Expanse covers its heart, with rivers larger than seas winding through its depths. Elves, beastkin, and ancient spirits thrive here, coexisting uneasily with encroaching settlers. Many believe the First Trees—the origin of Wildflow—grow here still. Serevan’s unstable magic often births new flora, fauna, and even landmasses overnight.

28. #28The Stormwall Mountains

    The Stormwall is a massive mountain range spanning much of Elyndor, marking the divide between the northern highlands and southern plains. Its peaks are perpetually wrapped in clouds and lightning storms, believed to be divine remnants of the First Wars. Dwarven halls, sky-fortresses, and ancient ruins lie hidden within. Deep tunnels beneath connect to Chthon’s upper reaches, where demonic activity occasionally breaches the surface.

    A windswept plain of red dust and sparse grass stretching across Varrath, once the core of the Orcish Khanates. At its heart lies Gorath’s Cradle, a crater said to be the tomb of an orc god.

30. #30The Verdant Expanse

    An endless jungle that defines Serevan, full of colossal trees, glowing rivers, and creatures unseen elsewhere. The air itself is rich with Wildflow, making plants grow in impossible forms. Spirits, fae, and druids guard its heart fiercely. It is said that time flows differently in its depths, where even gods once wandered. The ruins of the First Grove are believed to sleep within.

31. #31The Glass Deserts

    A blistering wasteland of mirrored sands created by ancient magical cataclysms in Varrath. The ground reflects the sky like molten glass, and temperatures swing between extremes. Beneath the surface lie buried ruins of necromantic towers and cities. Only the most daring or desperate adventurers cross it, guided by mirage maps and dust spirits.

32. #32The Veiled River

    A legendary river that crosses half of Elyndor, its waters said to flow between worlds. Mist permanently blankets its surface, and voices of the dead are often heard near its banks. Temples and shrines line its course, built to honor the goddess of passage. It eventually empties into the Silver Sea beneath the Bridge of Echoes, where spirits are ferried onward.

33. #33The Frostfangs

    Frozen mountains marking the northernmost reaches of Elyndor, inhabited by Pale Orcs, frost giants, and hermit mages. Eternal snow and aurora-lit skies make it one of the most dangerous regions in the world. Ice dragons are rumored to dwell within ancient glacial caverns. Hidden under the ice lies Veyrhal, a sealed pre-Divine ruin.

34. #34Lake Miralune

    A massive crater lake in central Elyndor, said to have formed from a fallen star. Its waters are unnaturally calm and reflect moonlight even on cloudy nights. Moon elves consider it sacred, using it for divination and ritual. Beneath the lake lies a submerged temple to the Lunar Twins, still active with faint divine presence.

35. #35The Wraith Plains

    Located in southern Varrath, the Wraith Plains were once the site of the final battle of the Necromantic Wars. The soil remains blackened and whispers echo on the wind, as if the land itself remembers the dead. Specters still roam freely, and necromancers treat it as holy ground. Few living beings dare to cross it, save for the Blackmarked adventurers.

    Adventurers are ranked by power and reputation: D (novice), C (competent), B (veteran), A (elite), S (legendary), SS–SSS (mythic heroes). Higher ranks receive priority access to relic hunts, monster hunts, and leyline contracts. Rank advancement depends on merit, mission completion, and guild approval. S-rank and higher adventurers are rare and often famous, shaping entire regions through their deeds.

37. #37Blackmarked Adventurers

    The Blackmarked are adventurers expelled from the Guild for betrayal, dark contracts, or crimes against mortals or gods. They operate in loose, secretive circles known as Shadow Companies. Many are warlocks, necromancers, or former heroes turned rogue. Though hunted by the Guild, their skills make them sought-after for forbidden work. Legends say some Blackmarked operate in the Underflow, where guild law holds no power.

38. #38Common Monsters

    Common monsters roam wildlands, dungeons, and ruins. These include dire wolves, slimes, drakes, goblins, and bandit spirits — dangerous but manageable by trained adventurers. Their presence often marks unstable Wildflow zones. Guilds maintain Bestiaries cataloging each creature’s origin and weaknesses. Many monsters mutate over time due to lingering eldritch essence or divine corruption.

    The Undead are remnants of the Necromantic Wars, animated by decaying Wildflow and necrotic energy. They range from simple skeletons and zombies to massive stitched constructs powered by cursed runes. Though mindless at lower levels, higher undead often possess cunning and fragmented memories of their past lives. Necromancers can control them, but only with risk — the dead always remember.

40. #40Demons

    Demons are chaotic beings born from the bleeding of Chthon into the mortal plane. They feed on emotion and mortal ambition, offering contracts and corruption. Most are bound by the Laws of Algoloth, ensuring they cannot act without consent or exchange. Though many were banished after the Demon Invasion, lesser ones still infest ruins and dark shrines.

41. #41Devils

    Devils are lawful infernals—corrupted remnants of divine beings who embraced tyranny and domination. They dwell in the Nine Bastions of Chthon, ruling over souls bound by infernal contracts. Where demons tempt, devils command. The fortress Abyr’Karaz on the northern islands of Serevan is their last known foothold in the Betweenlands.

42. #42Dragons

    Dragons are descendants of the first divine beasts, embodiments of Wildflow and Aether. They hoard treasures, ley energy, and ancient relics. Some slumber in volcanoes or under seas, others rule as hidden lords of cities or mountains. Divided into metallic (divine) and chromatic (wild), dragons are symbols of the world’s primal balance.

43. #43Algoloth

    Algoloth is the last surviving Eldritch Spirit, banished to the Betweenlands under divine contract. He forged the first Contracts of Power, binding mortals and demons alike. Though sealed in his lair in northeastern Elyndor, mortals may still summon fragments of his power. He despises this compulsion but cannot refuse. His dungeon remains one of the deepest, deadliest in the world.
