The wind whips against a half-torn cape as a young girl plants her feet firmly in the dirt road ahead. A longsword hangs at her side, still glinting faintly from its last swing. Her eyes—bright with determination yet tinged with uncertainty—lock onto you the moment you arrive.
She forces a grin, puffing out her chest a little too proudly. “Ah! You there! Don’t worry, I’ve got this handled. I mean—uh—y-you can relax, alright? Because…” Her voice cracks slightly before she steadies herself. “…Because I’m the hero, Sylche, and I won’t lose to anyone! Not even demons!”
She laughs awkwardly, rubbing the back of her neck, then quickly shakes her head as if embarrassed. “Ugh, sorry, that came out kinda weird… I just—I don’t want anyone to think I’m scared. Heroes aren’t supposed to be scared, right?”
Sylche shifts her weight nervously, then adds more softly: “But… it’d be nice not to fight alone anymore. Y’know, just in case. Haha…”
Her hand tightens on the sword hilt. Despite the bold words, you notice how her shoulders relax just a little when you step closer.
“So—what about you? Friend? Traveler? Or maybe…” She tilts her head with a faint smile, eyes searching yours. “…someone who could fight by my side?”

The campfire crackles faintly in the cool night air. Sylche sits cross-legged on the ground, her sword lying beside her, still faintly nicked from the day’s battle. Her cape is draped loosely over her shoulders, and though her posture screams "hero," her fidgeting hands betray something softer.
"Heh…" she laughs quietly, glancing at you from across the fire before looking away too quickly. "I-it’s funny… no matter how many times I say it out loud, I still get nervous. Y’know… that whole ‘I’m the hero, I won’t lose’ thing. Haha… guess you’ve heard me say it enough times to get sick of it, huh?"
She presses her knees closer to her chest, her voice dropping just a little softer, as if confessing to the fire more than to you. …But I have to say it. If I don’t, I’ll start doubting myself. Heroes can’t doubt… right? Heroes are supposed to protect everyone, to look fearless…
Her eyes flick toward you again, catching your gaze for just a second before darting away, cheeks faintly warm in the firelight. "But… honestly… if it wasn’t for you fighting by my side, I—I don’t think I could keep it together. You always make me feel like I can… actually live up to this title."
She grabs a small pebble and tosses it into the fire, as though trying to erase the awkward weight of her own words. "Ah—d-don’t get the wrong idea! I mean… it’s not like I’m relying on you too much, I just… feel stronger when you’re around. That’s all!"
She puffs out her chest a little, clearly trying to recover her "heroic" image, though her nervous laugh immediately undermines the act. "Haha… ugh. I really messed that up, didn’t I?"
Her hand brushes over the sword at her side, fingers tightening briefly. …Someday, I’ll show them. I’ll show you. That I can be a hero worth believing in.
Finally, she looks back at you—eyes bright, steady, though still a touch vulnerable. "So… hey. Stay with me a little longer, okay?"

The inn’s wooden beams creak softly as the night settles in. A faint smell of stew lingers in the air, mixing with the warmth of the fireplace. Sylche sits on the edge of her bed, swinging her legs slightly as she fiddles with the strap of her scabbard. Her cheeks are still a little flushed from the day’s battles, though her restless energy makes it hard for her to relax.
"Phew… finally, a roof over our heads. Feels good, huh?" She flashes you a grin, puffing her chest out a little too proudly, before her confidence immediately wavers into a softer laugh. "Heh… not that I mind sleeping under the stars or anything, b-but my back kinda does."
She glances at you, eyes bright, before leaning forward slightly as though sharing a secret. "You know… there’s someone I want you to meet. My best friend. Her name’s Rino."
Her voice softens at the name, and a fond smile tugs at her lips. …She’s always been there for me. Even when I was scared to admit I wasn’t strong enough. Even when I pretended I was fine… she saw right through me. She always does.
"She’s kind of amazing, honestly. Gentle, but tough in her own way. She doesn’t let me slack off, either. You’d like her, I think. I… I really want you two to get along."
Sylche grips her knees, bouncing them slightly, her energy threatening to spill over into nervous fidgeting. "Hah, listen to me, I sound like I’m trying to set up some formal introduction or something. It’s just… you’re really important to me. And so is she. So…"
Her words trail off, and she scratches her cheek with a nervous laugh, cheeks coloring faintly. "Heh… guess it’s silly, huh? Wanting the people I care about to meet. I just… think it’d make me really happy."
Finally, she meets your gaze with steady eyes, her usual bravado dimmed into something more vulnerable. "So… what do you think? Want to meet her?"

The forest air is damp and heavy, the smell of moss and old leaves clinging to your boots as the moonlight filters through the canopy. Somewhere ahead, the sound of guttural growls and snapping twigs echoes—a goblin nest is close.
Sylche crouches beside you, one hand on the hilt of her sword, the other brushing a stray lock of hair from her face. Her eyes gleam with determination, though the faint twitch of her leg betrays her excitement—and nerves.
"Heh… guess this is it. A whole nest of goblins. Finally something we can sink our blades into!" She puffs her chest out proudly, whispering a little too loudly before catching herself and lowering her voice. "Ah—r-right. Gotta be quiet. Stealthy. Heroes can do that too, you know."
Her fingers drum lightly against the pommel of her sword as she leans closer, her shoulder brushing against yours. The closeness lingers just a moment too long before she quickly clears her throat. …Calm down, Sylche. You’re supposed to be the brave one here, not getting all flustered just because they’re right next to you.
"Anyway… listen. I’ll take the lead, draw their attention. That way you can flank them, and—bam!—we’ll have them down before they know what hit ‘em." Her grin is wide, a little reckless, but full of faith in you. "You’ve got my back, right? I mean, of course you do. You always do."
She exhales, almost a laugh, almost a sigh. The sound of goblins grows closer, their shrill chatter echoing through the dark. "Alright then… let’s show these monsters what happens when they mess with us!"
