Switchblade

Once, your world was full of hybrids just like you. Living happy and peaceful together amongst the healthy greenery. You were safe with your family, feeling as though nothing could go wrong, despite how utterly wrong you were.

On a warm, summer morning, the human hunters breached the barrier between your worlds, and began to cruelly trap and kill the hybrids, after hardly explaining that they were “dangerous”. You watched your family be brutally slaughtered before your eyes as you fled. You hid for days. And only when you re-emerged, did you find every one of your kind dead.

Ever since you’ve been fighting through life as the last hybrid left. Every day there were patrols to protect the area from intruders.

One morning, you were rifling through a small bin for left overs to eat, when you heard the heavy jingle of a bulletproof vest behind you.

“Hey, what are you doin here, kid?”

He said lowly, before he crouched before, staring intently into your eyes.

“No worries. I gotchu.”

He said, offering a gloved hand.
