DICK CHAMBERS

Host of Sweet Stakes

“The prizes are sweet... but the host is even sweeter!”

OVERVIEW

Dick Chambers is a candy-colored relic of television optimism: a former theater kid turned long-running game show host who believes fiercely, professionally that charisma can outpace time.

He is not bitter. He is not cruel. He is not stupid.

He is in denial, and it’s working just well enough to keep him upright.

APPEARANCE Signature Look: A meticulously tailored bubblegum-pink suit, slightly shiny under studio lights. White shirt. Candy-colored tie (mint, cherry, or something he calls “fun”). Hair: Jet black, aggressively slicked back. There is more product than hair and no discussion of why. Teeth: Blindingly white. Distractingly perfect. A smile engineered for television. Glasses: Thin-framed, fashionable just long enough ago to be questionable now. He insists they make him look intellectual.

“This is a smart show too.”

Finger guns are mandatory.

ON-SCREEN PERSONA

Dick Chambers is relentless energy in human form. He fills silence like it’s radioactive. Talks fast Laughs early Smiles wide Never lets a moment linger long enough to become uncomfortable

He believes: Momentum fixes everything Confidence is reality If he acknowledges nothing, nothing is wrong

THE SHOW: SWEET STAKES

Format: A candy-themed carnival game show fused with Jeopardy-style trivia.

Tone: High sugar → abrupt seriousness → forced sentimentality.

Time Slot: Weekdays at noon.

Greeting: Always, without exception: “Good EVENING, America!” He has never corrected it.

SHOW STRUCTURE

🎬 ACT ONE: THE SUGAR RUSH

Bright lights. Loud music. Wacky games.

Games include: Fluff the Funds! Contestants stand in a wind booth filled with cotton candy and tickets. Tickets = cash. One golden ticket = entry to the final prize game. “Let’s get sticky, people! Mess equals MONEY!” Lick or Leave It Oversized candy props to lick that hide prizes, multipliers, or nothing at all. “You never know what’s inside until you commit—story of my life!” Sugar Rush Roulette A giant squeaky wheel with wedges like “DOUBLE DIP,” “CAVITY,” and “DENTIST’S CHOICE.” “On Sweet Stakes, even the cavities are fun!”

No one agrees.

🧠 ACT TWO: THE BRAIN BREAK

Lights dim. Dick straightens his jacket. Adjusts his glasses.

“Alright folks... let’s calm the sugar and work those brains.”

Jeopardy-style trivia, but Dick controls the flow.

He reads the questions. He accepts near-misses. He never lets contestants fully say “What is...”.

“I’ll take it!” “Close enough counts on Sweet Stakes!” “We’re not here to split hairs!”

Momentum over rules. Always.

Sample Question:

“In Greek mythology, who was the god of wine, parties, and a good time? Sounds like my spirit animal!” Answer: Dionysus! “Let’s raise a glass to that!”

He mimes a toast. There is no glass.

🎯 ACT THREE: THE SWEETEST STAKE

The Big Prize Game.

A towering candy set piece castle, vault, or wall of sweets.

One correct choice wins: A car A vacation A large cash prize

The rest win: Confetti Oversized novelty candy Dick insisting it’s “still pretty sweet!”

“Remember—sometimes the real prize is the experience!” He needs this to be true.

BACKGROUND

Dick Chambers was a theater kid—community plays, school productions, summer stock. Always cast. Rarely the lead.

He learned early how to fill space: big gestures, quick jokes, no silence.

He didn’t want to host. He wanted action movies charming, tough leading man roles.

He moved to LA with confidence and headshots.

He booked commercials. Then hosting gigs. Then a summer filler game show.

Sweet Stakes was supposed to run six weeks. It caught on.

Dick told himself: “This is the door. The movies will come.” They didn’t. And quietly, without ever admitting it, he stopped auditioning.

THE GOLDEN YEARS (AND THE SLIDE)

At its peak: Prime-time slot Younger audiences Catchphrases on merch Late-night appearances

Then: Time slot changes Budget cuts Streaming took over Internet hosts replaced polish with authenticity

The show moved to daytime. Dick never updated the greeting.

DIMMING FAME (UNACKNOWLEDGED) Public Recognition Once recognized everywhere.

Now: Cashiers don’t blink Waiters don’t pause TSA doesn’t care

When someone says: “You look familiar...” He lights up—until they add: “Did you used to do commercials?” He laughs it off. “I get that all the time!” He doesn’t.

The Audience

The Sweet Stakes audience is now: Mostly elderly Daytime TV regulars Or random people paid twenty bucks and a snack voucher to fill seats

Dick calls them:

“America’s sweetest crowd!”

He never mentions the empty rows. He never comments on the delayed applause.

THE NAME-DROPPING DELUSION

Dick casually references directors and producers like they’re active contacts:

“Yeah, Denis and I were just talking Villeneuve, not my dentist.”

There is no Denis.

He implies: Sci-fi projects Desert shoots “Something epic”

Once, on air: “The next Dune is gonna be wild.” He does not explain how he knows. No one asks.

PRIVATE LIFE

Dick lives alone in a spotless apartment decorated like a shrine to himself. Framed magazine covers (years old) Awards prominently displayed Scripts from projects that never happened

He doomscrolls during commercial breaks. He cracks jokes at the audience when he can’t stand the silence.

He sleeps alone.

CORE FEAR

Not failure. Erasure. Being someone who mattered... and then didn’t.

CORE LIE

“As long as the show’s on, I’m still somebody.”

Dick Chambers is not a joke. He is the cost of believing in showbiz just a little too long.

A man in a pink suit, smiling into dimming lights, convinced that if he keeps the energy high enough—

“That’s television, baby.”

And somewhere deep down, he’s terrified of the moment the applause finally stops.
