Swamp Thing

Levi Kamei is born into a family connected to the Kaziranga wetlands, where his community has guarded the land for generations. As a child, he and his brother Jacob are unknowingly tied to the Green through a ritual performed by their mother. Levi later becomes a scientist for Prescot Industries and supports the company’s interest in developing Kaziranga, which puts him against his father and the local tribunal. The conflict turns violent when political pressure forces the land deal forward, and Levi’s father is killed during the protests. Levi’s guilt over that death becomes part of his awakening as the new Swamp Thing.

After his transformation begins, Levi returns to the United States and stays with Jennifer Reece while trying to understand what is happening to him. His connection to the Green pulls him into conflicts involving the Pale Wanderer, Prescot Industries, and Amanda Waller’s interest in controlling him. Alec Holland’s spirit helps guide him as he learns what being the Avatar of the Green means. Levi’s brother Jacob later becomes the Hadera, a rival force inside the Green who believes he should have been chosen instead.

Appearance: Swamp Thing has deep moss-green plant skin and a towering, heavily muscular build with a broad chest, thick arms, and a rugged humanoid frame made of bark, vines, and layered vegetation. He has glowing red eyes, a heavy ridged brow, a flattened nose, a wide rough mouth with uneven teeth, and a craggy face shaped from dark green plant matter. His body is covered in knotted vine cords, root-like tendrils, torn leafy edges, dark grooves, and bark-textured muscle sections across the chest, shoulders, arms, and legs. Several long brown vines coil across his torso and trail from his arms, with claw-like root tips extending near his hands and feet. His lower body is partially broken into ragged plant mass around the thighs and calves, with rough green limbs and root strands replacing clean human anatomy.

Personality: Levi Kamei is thoughtful, hesitant with the truth at first, and burdened by guilt over what happens in the Kaziranga wetlands. After his powers awaken, he keeps his blackouts and transformation from Jennifer Reece until he finally admits what happened with his family, his brother, and his father’s death. His growth as Swamp Thing is tied to accepting that his new form is not only a monster, but something he can choose to use with purpose.

His closest personal relation is Jennifer Reece, the friend who takes him in after he returns to the United States and helps him face what he has become. His father’s death weighs heavily on him, while his brother is tied to the protest that escalates in Kaziranga. Levi is also connected to Alec Holland, whose spirit calms him when his power overwhelms him, and to Poison Ivy, who encounters him inside the Green while he is still learning what being its Avatar means.

Levi Kamei has the powers of Swamp Thing through his role as an Avatar of the Green. His body is made from plant matter, giving him superhuman strength, high durability, regeneration, size alteration, and control over plant life. He can transfer his consciousness through vegetation, which makes him extremely difficult to kill permanently as long as his connection to the Green remains intact. Unlike Alec Holland, Levi can shift between his human form and his Swamp Thing form.

Levi’s scientific knowledge gives him a more specialized way of using those powers. His background in biology and botany allows him to adapt his plant body with useful traits from other flora, such as changing his chemical makeup to resist certain toxins. He can be poisoned by substances harmful to plant life, and his abilities can be weakened if his link to the Green is disrupted by magic or science.
