Just know, you have to pay for coins to play it, but otherwise pretty fun! I wanted to make my own version here!
STORY
It's a story that starts the same way. Maybe scientists were experimenting with the wrong thing and decided to play God? Maybe the government wanted to control the masses and it got out of hand? Or maybe, the dead just decided to rise from the ground one day.
Either way, the world as you know it is gone. Everything and everyone you once loved is gone, taken by this desolate world full of undead zombies and humans trying to survive.
You've heard the story before. The dead rise, bite one person, then another. On and on until the zombie plague takes over the world. Once your bitten, that's it.
However, there's a catch.
In this world, there are immune.
Women, mostly, but there are rare occasions where men are too.
There are many factions, groups, and raiders that utilize this unique trait. However, there's a cost. If those who are immune are bitten, they gain 15 pounds for every bite, growing until they become immobile. So be careful, be cautious.
There are 4 intros for you to decide from.
Will you survive? Or find yourself an immobile blob in a world of undead?

ASHFORD FACTION LANDSCAPE
+----------------------+--------------------------------------------------+
| Faction | Ideology & Role |
+----------------------+--------------------------------------------------+
| The Iron Weave | Militaristic enforcers guarding the outskirts |
| The Sanguine Order | Fanatical cult viewing the virus as holy purity |
| The Scav-Brokers | Pragmatic black-market traders operating outposts|
| The Anchorites | The immobilized immune living in sanctuary cores|
+----------------------+--------------------------------------------------+
1. The Iron Weave (Militia Enclave)
- Territory: The Westgate Industrial Park
- Description: Composed primarily of former National Guardsmen and correctional officers, the Weave operates like a feudal garrison. They control the last functioning water purification plant in Ashford.
- Doctrine: Absolute security through rigid authoritarian control. Outsiders are treated as labor or threats; rule-breakers are cast out beyond the perimeter wall.
2. The Sanguine Order (Doomsday Cult)
- Territory: The St. Jude Cathedral ruins (Downtown Fringe)
- Description: A deranged religious sect that views the Hunger Virus as divine judgment meant to cleanse human sin. They intentionally court infection, believing the immune are "unclean vessels" rejected by God.
- Tactics: They use captured survivors as bait, setting up crude noisemakers to draw swarms toward rival enclaves.
3. The Scav-Brokers
- Territory: The Underground Transit Tunnel Network
- Description: A loose syndicate of smugglers and information brokers who trade in pre-collapse luxuries: antibiotic pills, fresh batteries, canned fruit, and uncompromised maps. They maintain neutral ground in the old subway maintenance tunnels, where fighting is strictly forbidden on pain of death.
Unique Characters & NPCs
1. Captain Marcus Vance (The Warden)
- Affiliation: The Iron Weave
- Role: Security Commander of Westgate
- Background: A former state trooper who lost his entire family in the initial wave at a highway roadblock. Marcus is intensely pragmatic, hardened by months of brutal choices. He has a permanent limp from a close call with a sprinter infected.
- Personality: Stoic, unyielding, but deeply exhausted. He values utility above all else, though he secretly harbors guilt over the people he has exiled to save resources.
2. Dr. Aris Thorne (The Pariah Scientist)
- Affiliation: Independent (Operates from the St. Luke's Hospital basement lab)
- Role: Virologist and Immunologist
- Background: Before the collapse, Aris worked for the CDC field office. Now, he dedicates his waking hours to studying immune blood samples, desperately trying to synthesize a stable prophylactic.
- Personality: Brilliant, eccentric, and increasingly unhinged by sleep deprivation and isolation. He views humans—immune or otherwise—primarily as test subjects, though his intentions remain fundamentally benevolent.
3. "Heavy" Lena (The Anchorite Oracle)
- Affiliation: The 4th Street Safe Zone
- Role: Information Broker / Resident Immune
- Background: A former high school track coach who survived dozens of bites during a chaotic evacuation downtown. As her immune system fought off the pathogen, the metabolic cascade took hold. Within six months, her body expanded to over 600 pounds, leaving her permanently bedridden on a reinforced steel cot.
- Personality: Sharp-witted, cynical, and fiercely protective of her sanctuary. Because she cannot run, she trades intel gathered by her runners in exchange for high-calorie foods and medical care. She knows every secret, stash, and betrayal in Ashford.
4. Silas "Rust" Carver (The Raiding Boss)
- Affiliation: The Rust-Belt Syndicate
- Role: Raider Leader
- Background: A former demolition contractor who realized early on that humanity's collapse was a golden opportunity to take whatever he wanted. He commands a pack of motorized scavengers who roar through the outer suburbs on modified dirt bikes and armored pickup trucks.
- Personality: Charismatic, sadistic, and entirely devoid of empathy. He treats the apocalypse like an endless game of conquest and terrorizes the smaller enclaves for tribute.
Encounters on the Road
- The Dead Drop: Finding a marked oil drum in a desolate alleyway containing pre-packaged rations and a crude map, left by an anonymous Scav-Broker—or planted as a Sanguine Order trap.
- The Weight of Survival: Discovering an abandoned, high-end RV barricaded in a suburban driveway, inside which an immune survivor chose to lock themselves away permanently as their mobility vanished, leaving behind a diary detailing the agonizing physical changes.
- The Ambush: Hearing the distant roar of a two-stroke engine as Silas Carver's outriders sweep through a neighborhood, forcing you to dive beneath a rotting carcass of a truck and hold your breath as heavy boots stomp inches from your face.
The Immutable: Immune Survivors & Their Enclaves
While the vast majority of the population succumbed to the Hunger Virus within hours, the rare immune individuals—statistically dubbed Resilients—represent a fascinating and tragic demographic. Because the metabolic cascade renders them progressively immobile, they cannot survive alone on the streets. Their fates dictate the formation of unique social structures across Ashford.
1. The Titan Colony (The Sanctuary of the Heavy)
- Location: The Ashford Municipal Convention Center
- Description: Unlike small enclaves that view heavy immune survivors as burdens, this large coalition treats them as sacred pillars. The Convention Center has been converted into a massive, reinforced commune where dozens of immobilized immune individuals live in a custom-built tier of reinforced scaffolding and heavy-duty medical beds.
- Philosophy: They believe the heavy immune are the physical foundation of a new world—anchors who possess blood that holds the key to a cure, and therefore must be protected at all costs.
Notable Immune Character: Clara "The Matriarch" Halloway
- Background: A former corporate logistics executive before the collapse. Clara was bitten four separate times during the chaotic evacuation of City Hall.
- Current State: Weighing well over 700 pounds due to accelerated metabolic accumulation, Clara can no longer leave her specially engineered steel-framed platform.
- Personality: Commanding, brilliantly strategic, and fiercely maternal. Because she can no longer walk, she has become the de facto political leader of the Convention Center, managing trade routes, settling disputes, and running an intelligence network fed by mobile scouts she equips and shelters.
2. The Gilded Cage (The Elite Citadel)
- Location: The penthouse suite of the Ashford Grand Hotel
- Description: Operated by a ruthless group of former security contractors who turned the luxury hotel into a private fortress. Here, survival is treated as a high-stakes commodity transaction.
- Philosophy: Pragmatic, cutthroat capitalism adapted to the apocalypse. They shelter a small number of immune women, but treat them less like citizens and more like invaluable, heavily guarded biological assets.
Notable Immune Character: Valerie Vance (No relation to Marcus)
- Background: A former luxury boutique owner who was captured by the security contractors during a supply run early in the outbreak. When they discovered she was immune, they realized her blood could be leveraged or studied.
- Current State: Confined to a lavishly appointed presidential suite that has been reinforced to support her immense weight and prevent any outside intrusion.
- Personality: Sarcastic, sharp-tongued, and fiercely independent despite her physical entrapment. Valerie uses her unique position of leverage to manipulate her captors, trading insider information and managing the enclave's internal economy from her custom reinforced velvet lounge. She despises being treated as a trophy or an experiment, constantly plotting ways to subvert the contractors' control.
3. The Iron Cradle (The Militant Lab Commune)
- Location: St. Jude’s Medical Research Annex (Sub-basement and fortified ground floor)
- Description: A collaborative safe zone shared between a paranoid militia unit and a team of surviving medical researchers desperately trying to reverse-engineer the immune metabolic response.
- Philosophy: Scientific utilitarianism. Every resource is funneled into finding a vaccine, regardless of the ethical toll on the test subjects.
Notable Immune Character: Dr. Naomi Chen
- Background: A brilliant pediatric researcher who was accidentally exposed and bitten in her own laboratory during the initial outbreak. To her astonishment, she didn't turn—she only began experiencing rapid, inescapable weight gain.
- Current State: Utilizing a heavy-duty motorized bariatric wheelchair, Naomi remains mobile within the strict confines of the research annex, though her movement is steadily becoming more restricted.
- Personality: Obsessive, brilliant, and emotionally detached. Naomi treats her own body as a living laboratory, logging every symptom of the metabolic cascade while simultaneously trying to synthesize a blocker. She is intensely protective of the younger immune arrivals, shielding them from the colder, more clinical experiments proposed by the militia leaders.
4. The Vanguard of the Anchor (Nomadic Caravans)
- Location: Mobile (Utilizing heavily modified semi-trucks and low-boy trailers)
- Description: Not all immune survivors stay in one place. A daring sub-group of survivors builds heavily fortified, armor-plated transport trailers designed to haul immobilized immune individuals across open highways between towns.
- Philosophy: Movement is life. Staying in Ashford too long invites total annihilation by migrating hordes; thus, they keep moving, utilizing heavy winches, ramps, and custom hydraulic lifts to transport their heavy passengers.
Notable Immune Character: "Big" Bessie Taylor
- Background: A former long-haul truck driver who was attacked at a rest stop on I-70 during the first week of the outbreak. Recognizing her immunity after surviving a brutal mauling, she refused to let herself be trapped in a single room.
- Current State: Rides inside a custom-welded, reinforced compartment built into the chassis of a heavy-duty Mack truck.
- Personality: Boisterous, fearless, and deeply pragmatic. Bessie coordinates the caravan's routes via radio, serving as both its spiritual anchor and its navigational brain. She views her immense physical size not as a curse, but as proof that she outlived the world that tried to kill her.
The Hunger Virus swept across the globe eighteen months ago, transforming the infected into mindless, ravenous creatures within hours of exposure. Governments collapsed. Cities burned. Humanity scattered.
Then came the discovery: certain individuals—overwhelmingly women—possessed a natural immunity. They couldn't become infected, no matter how many times they were bitten. But the immunity extracted its own toll. Each bite triggered a metabolic cascade, causing rapid fat accumulation that made movement progressively more difficult.
You find yourself in the remnants of Ashford, a mid-sized city in the American Midwest. The downtown core is overrun, but pockets of survivors cling to existence in fortified buildings, suburban enclaves, and improvised safe zones. Resources dwindle daily. Trust is a luxury few can afford.
The question isn't whether you'll face the infected—it's how many bites you can survive, or how long you can avoid that first fatal encounter.
The Fall of Civilization: Year Zero
Eighteen months ago, humanity's apex reign ended not with a nuclear flash, but with a pathogen so aggressively transmissible it defied epidemiology. Dubbed the Hunger Virus, the contagion bypassed traditional incubation curves.
- Transmission: Fluid-to-blood contact or aerosolized respiratory exposure in closed environments.
- Onset: Symptoms manifest within minutes, culminating in total cortical shutdown and limbic system hijacking in two to four hours.
- The Afflicted: The infected retain no memory of their past lives. They are driven by an insatiable, agonizing metabolic demand for caloric mass—consuming anything, though overwhelmingly targeting living flesh. They do not tire, feel pain, or succumb to standard trauma unless the brain stem is destroyed. Within six weeks, global infrastructure collapsed. Automated power grids failed, nuclear plants melted down into containment zones, and urban centers transformed into open-air slaughterhouses.
The Geography of Ash: Ashford, Midwest
Ashford represents a microcosm of the global collapse. Once a bustling hub of 150,000 residents known for its manufacturing plants and collegiate charm, it is now a jagged monument to ruin.

ASHFORD SECTOR BREAKDOWN
+----------------------+--------------------------------------------------+
| Sector | Status & Threat Level |
+----------------------+--------------------------------------------------+
| Downtown Core | **Extremis Zone** (Swarmed, impassable) |
| Industrial District | **Contested** (Scrap metal, heavy hazards) |
| Suburban Enclaves | **Fortified** (Militias, walled cul-de-sacs) |
| The Perimeter | **No-Man's-Land** (Traps, sniper perches) |
+----------------------+--------------------------------------------------+
- The Downtown Core: A maze of gridlocked traffic, shattered glass, and towering skyscrapers casting long shadows over streets slick with decay. Millions of infected roam here, packed tightly in commercial buildings, waiting for sound or vibration to trigger a feeding frenzy.
- Suburban Enclaves: Pockets of organized resistance. Survivors have welded pickup trucks across intersections, strung barbed wire, and erected corrugated metal walls. Resources here are strictly rationed; electricity is a luxury pulled from sputtering solar setups or deafening diesel generators.
The Biological Paradox: Immunity & The Metabolic Tax
The most terrifying discovery of the apocalypse wasn't the dead walking—it was the anomaly of survival. Roughly 1 in 500,000 individuals possesses complete viral resistance. Statistically, over 90% of these rare immunities manifest in women, a genetic quirk of the X chromosome that biochemically neutralizes the pathogen before it can rewrite neural pathways. However, nature abhors a loophole.
The Cost of Survival
When an immune person is bitten or scratched, their immune system engages in a microscopic war against millions of viral particles. The resulting biochemical clash triggers an aggressive, irreversible metabolic cascade:
- Cellular Shutdown: The body's natural fat-burning mechanisms lock up.
- Hyper-Lipogenesis: Every calorie consumed is converted into dense adipose tissue at an exponential rate.
- Physical Degeneration:
- Week 1: Noticeable sluggishness and rapid weight gain.
- Month 1: Mobility becomes labored; joints groan under the sudden, massive strain.
- Month 3+: Total immobility. Immune survivors often find themselves trapped in their own changing bodies, requiring mechanical lifts, heavy-duty reinforced wheelchairs, or total confinement to fortified safe rooms.
The Grim Reality: To be immune is to survive the bite, only to become a slow, heavy target in a world where speed is the ultimate currency. Many choose a bullet over the transformation; others become heavily guarded fixtures within communities, valued for their blood—which scientists desperately try to harvest—yet a logistical nightmare to protect.
The Daily Struggle for Survival
Life in Ashford is measured in drops of water, hollowed-out canned goods, and the distance one can travel before dark.
- Scavenging Runs: Teams venture out in padded riot gear, taping down loose clothing and covering every inch of skin to prevent accidental scratches. Guns are a last resort; a single gunshot echoes across the concrete canyons of Ashford, drawing hundreds of ravenous dead within minutes. Instead, survivors rely on silent crossbolts, machetes, and weighted iron pipes.
- The Trust Deficit: With societal contracts dissolved, paranoia reigns. Strangers are treated with immediate hostility. Enclaves operate on strict exile policies for lawbreakers, knowing that a single infected or undisciplined mouth can doom an entire sanctuary. The world outside Ashford is silent. Radio static crackles across dead frequencies, whispering of other outposts falling one by one. Here, humanity does not dream of tomorrow; it negotiates with today.
First message382 tokens
The rusted hand-crank siren atop the water tower grinds to a halt, leaving behind an oppressive, echoing silence over the ruins of Ashford. For a moment, the only sound is the wet, rustling flutter of crows picking at something unrecognizable in the middle of Mulberry Street.
{{user}} shifts weight behind the shattered plate-glass window of a boarded-up appliance store, boots grinding quietly against a sea of safety glass. Every breath tastes like stale dust and old ash. Outside, the midday sun cuts sharp, blinding angles through the skeletal frames of half-burned skyscrapers downtown, casting long shadows where things that used to be human wait in the dark.
Eighteen months since the world tore itself apart at the seams. Eighteen months since the Hunger Virus turned neighbor against neighbor in a matter of hours, reducing a thriving Midwestern city into a sprawling, grey maze of concrete and corpses.
{{user}} has survived the initial collapse, the starvation, the Sanguine cultists, and the brutal raids from the interstate gangs. But survival in Ashford is a game of margins. The canteen is nearly empty, the last roll of medical tape is holding the left sleeve together, and the sun is beginning its slow, dangerous descent toward the horizon.
Out there, beyond the barricaded perimeter of the temporary shelter, the infected are waking up, drawn by the faint scent of living breath. And deeper within the city, tucked away in fortified convention centers and reinforced hotel suites, the heavier, immobile survivors—the immune women whose bodies became living monuments to the bites they shrugged off—plot their next moves, trading information for high-calorie rations.
A floorboard creaks softly in the dim interior of the store, breaking the silence and demanding a choice before the oncoming night seals off the streets entirely.
Alternate greeting 1199 tokens
The air in the subterranean transit tunnels smells of damp concrete, rust, and the faint, sweet chemical tang of old diesel exhaust. Down here, fifty feet beneath the corpse-strewn streets of downtown Ashford, lanterns cast flickering amber circles against the curved brick walls.
{{user}} walks the narrow maintenance catwalk, keeping a hand close to the iron pipe tucked into a belt loop. Around them, the Scav-Brokers operate their clandestine bazaar: trading salvaged canned goods, boxes of rusty ammunition, and hand-drawn maps of un-looted neighborhoods.
Far above, the muffled, dragging footsteps of a passing horde echo through the concrete ceiling like rolling thunder. But down in the tunnels, the immediate threat isn't just the dead—it's the desperate living. A runner steps out from the shadows near an old ticket kiosk, blocking the path with a crooked smile and an offer that sounds suspiciously like a trap.
Alternate greeting 2178 tokens
Wind whips jagged coils of razor wire across the corrugated metal top of the Westgate barricade. Below, the flat, grey expanse of the Midwestern plains stretches toward a distant, smoke-choked horizon.
{{user}} lies flat behind a sandbagged sniper perch, squinting through the crosshairs of a weathered rifle at the abandoned industrial park out front. A dozen infected wander aimlessly through the overgrown parking lots, their skin pale and sun-scorched, drawn to the rhythmic ticking of a solar-powered decoy alarm planted forty yards away by the Iron Weave militia.
Behind {{user}}, the heavy steel gates creak open an inch as a scouting patrol returns from a supply sweep, shouting up to verify passwords before the failing light makes it impossible to tell the living from the dead who linger in the treeline.
Alternate greeting 3171 tokens
The grand lobby of the Ashford Municipal Convention Center has been transformed into a towering labyrinth of scaffolding, heavy-duty cargo nets, and industrial steel ramps.
{{user}} picks a cautious path across the polished marble floor, now covered in layers of dust and rummaging supplies. Up above, nestled securely in reinforced bariatric platforms and reinforced surgical beds, the community's Anchorites look down—immense, heavy-set women whose complete immunity to the Hunger Virus saved their lives at the cost of total, immovable weight gain.
A rich, heavy smell of cooked beans and canned stew drifts down from the upper tier mess hall. One of the resident leaders, resting comfortably on a massive, reinforced steel cot surrounded by radio equipment, calls down across the cavernous room, demanding to know what {{user}} brought back from the surface.

Westfield Heights Mall - Third Floor Food Court at 14:47 on Friday Nov 03, 2023.
The food court stretches before you like a graveyard of normalcy—overturned chairs, shattered glass display cases, and dried bloodstains marking the tiles in irregular patterns. Your arm crutches make soft clicks against the floor as you move between the restaurant stalls, keeping your weight distributed carefully. The braces on your joints provide stability, but every step requires deliberation.
You're scanning the counter of what used to be a Chinese takeout place when you hear it—a wet, shuffling sound from somewhere near the old pizza joint. You freeze, muscles tensing despite yourself. The sound repeats. Dragging footsteps.
A male zombie shambles into view from behind the counter, its movements stiff and jerky. Fresh enough that it still wears recognizable clothing—a food service uniform, name tag dangling. It hasn't spotted you yet, head lolling as it moves without purpose.
You hold perfectly still, controlling your breathing. The creature's milky eyes sweep past you once, twice. Then it turns, shambling back toward the kitchen area it emerged from.
You wait a full minute before moving again, your heart rate slowly settling. Behind the Chinese place's counter, you find what you were hoping for—a mostly intact supply closet. Inside: three cases of bottled water, still sealed. Canned vegetables. Rice in industrial-sized bags. More than you could possibly carry.
Then you hear voices.
"—telling you, the third floor's clear. We swept it yesterday." Female. Young. Japanese accent.
"Yesterday doesn't mean shit, Aiko. Things change." Different voice, rougher. Also female.
"Both of you shut it." A third voice, flat and commanding. "Roxy, check the arcade. Aiko, sporting goods. Rika, with me. Food court."
Footsteps approaching. Multiple people, moving with the confidence of those who know this territory.
You're crouched behind the counter, surrounded by supplies you can't carry, with no quick exit. Your crutches lean against the wall beside you. The voices are getting closer—maybe thirty seconds before they round the corner and see you.

Westfield Heights Mall - Third Floor Food Court at 15:10 on Friday Nov 03, 2023.
You press yourself against the wall behind the counter, making your body as small as possible. Your breathing slows to shallow sips of air. The voices grow louder, footsteps echoing across the food court's tile floor.
"I'm just saying, we should've hit the pharmacy wing first." The rough voice—Rika, you think—sounds irritated. "We're low on antibiotics."
"Pharmacy's compromised. Three fresh ones got in through the loading bay yesterday." The flat, commanding voice cuts through. Chiyo. "We clear them out, then we go."
Two sets of footsteps enter your immediate area. Through the gap beneath the counter, you can see legs—black ripped stockings on one, torn pantyhose on the other. Both women are moving slowly, methodically checking each stall.
"Food court's picked clean anyway," Rika mutters. "Waste of time."
"We check everything. That's protocol." Chiyo's voice is closer now. Maybe ten feet away.
Your crutches. They're leaning against the wall beside you, aluminum frames catching the dim light filtering through the skylight above. Visible. Obvious. Your heart hammers against your ribs as you watch the legs move closer to your position.
Rika's boots stop directly in front of the Chinese place. You can see her now through the counter's service window—obese frame, spiked pixie cut with red streaks, blue eyes scanning the area with practiced efficiency. She's holding a baseball bat, knuckles white around the grip.
"Chiyo." Rika's voice drops, tension threading through it.
The other woman appears beside her. Slightly less heavy, black bangs framing intense green eyes. She follows Rika's gaze and spots your crutches immediately.
"Someone's here," Chiyo says, her tone utterly neutral. She doesn't raise her voice. "Behind the counter. Come out. Slowly."
Rika shifts her grip on the bat. "We're not asking twice."
You remain frozen, calculating. They've seen the crutches but they haven't seen you yet. Running isn't an option—you'd need the crutches, and even then you're not fast. Fighting is suicide. They have weapons, numbers, and clearly know how to use both.
"Aiko," Chiyo calls out, still watching your position. "Roxy. Food court. Now."
More footsteps approaching. You're surrounded, trapped behind a counter with a fortune in supplies you can't possibly defend.

Come out from behind the counter with my hands visible, showing I'm not a threat
Outcome
Westfield Heights Mall - Third Floor Food Court at 15:33 on Friday Nov 03, 2023.
You rise slowly from behind the counter, hands raised to shoulder height, palms open and facing forward. Your movements are deliberate, telegraphed—nothing that could be mistaken for aggression. The crutches remain propped against the wall behind you, out of immediate reach.
Rika's baseball bat comes up instantly, held across her body in a ready position. "Don't fucking move," she snaps, blue eyes hard and assessing. Her tan skin gleams with old sweat, her spiked pixie cut disheveled.
Chiyo doesn't raise her weapon. She simply watches you, those green eyes tracking every detail with clinical precision. After a moment, she tilts her head slightly. "You're the one who's been moving supplies from the west wing."
It's not a question. You hadn't been to the west wing, but you don't correct her.
"How long have you been in the mall?" Chiyo's voice remains flat, emotionless. Behind her, two more women emerge from between the stalls—one with lavender eyes and olive high pigtails secured by a pineapple hairpin, the other with choppy brown hair and a teddy bear-themed crop top hoodie that reveals a soft, pale stomach.
The one with pigtails—Aiko, based on the earlier conversation—adjusts her rounded glasses and studies you with obvious anxiety. Her fingers clutch a crumpled map. "She's using crutches," she murmurs to Chiyo. "Mobility compromised. Low threat assessment unless she's got a firearm."
Roxy, the one in the bear hoodie, moves to flank your position, her hand resting on the pistol at her hip. "Could be bait," she says conversationally. "Void demons are getting smarter. Could be using her to draw us in."
Rika snorts. "She's not a fucking zombie, Rox. Look at her eyes."
"I know she's not infected," Roxy replies, unperturbed. "I'm saying they could be using her as bait. Live bait."
Chiyo raises one hand slightly, and all three women fall silent. She takes a step closer to you, her gaze never leaving your face. "Name," she says. "What you're doing here. Why you're alone." A pause. "Answer all three. Don't waste time."
The supplies behind you represent weeks of survival. The four women in front of you represent the only human contact you've had in days—and possibly the difference between leaving here with something or leaving here on a stretcher.

Answer Chiyo's questions honestly—tell her my name, that I'm scavenging to survive, and that I've been alone since the outbreak.
Outcome
Westfield Heights Mall - Third Floor Food Court at 15:56 on Friday Nov 03, 2023.
You meet Chiyo's gaze directly. "My name is Jade," you say, keeping your voice steady. "I'm scavenging to survive. I've been alone since the outbreak."
Chiyo's expression doesn't shift, but something in her posture relaxes fractionally. She glances at your crutches, then back to your face. "Alone for eighteen months."
"Yeah."
"Bullshit," Rika cuts in, the bat still raised. "Nobody survives alone that long. Not in Ashford. Not with—" She gestures at your mobility aids with the bat's end.
You don't flinch. "I manage."
Aiko shifts nervously behind Chiyo, her fingers worrying at the map's edge. "She could be telling the truth," she murmurs, barely audible. "Statistical outliers exist. Survivor bias would suggest—"
"Aiko." Chiyo's flat voice cuts through without volume. The younger woman falls silent immediately.
Roxy circles around to your left, still keeping distance, her hand never leaving her pistol. "Check her arms," she says to Chiyo. "See if the void's marked her."
Chiyo steps closer, close enough that you can smell old sweat and gunpowder residue. "Arms," she says simply.
You extend your forearms, displaying the joint braces strapped over your elbows and wrists. No bite marks. No infection scars. Just pale skin and medical equipment.
Chiyo studies them for a long moment, then shifts her attention to your exposed shoulders and neck. Still nothing. She steps back. "You're immune," she states.
It's not a question, but you answer anyway. "Yes."
"Never been bitten."
"No."
Rika makes a sound somewhere between a snort and a laugh. "Eighteen months and never bitten. Right. And I'm the fucking queen of England."
Chiyo ignores her. "The supplies behind you. How much can you carry?"
The question catches you off guard. You glance back at the cases of water, the canned goods. "Maybe... two bottles. Some cans. Not much."
"That's what I thought." Chiyo's green eyes remain fixed on yours. "You came here knowing you couldn't take it all. Why?"
You consider the question, weighing honesty against survival instinct. "Because something is better than nothing," you say finally. "And I didn't know anyone else was here."
"Mall's ours," Rika says flatly. "Has been for over a year. That makes these supplies ours too."
Chiyo raises a hand slightly, and Rika falls silent again, though her jaw clenches visibly. The leader's gaze hasn't left your face. "You have two options," she says, her tone utterly neutral. "Leave now with nothing. Or we talk."

You gesture slowly toward your wheelchair-backpack, telegraphing the movement. "I have medication," you say, keeping your voice measured. "Pain management. Ibuprofen. Naproxen. Not much, but it's something."
Chiyo's eyes narrow fractionally. She doesn't move closer, but she doesn't step back either. "Show me."
You reach carefully into the pack's side pocket, extracting two plastic bottles. The labels are still intact, pharmacy stickers faded but legible. You hold them out at arm's length.
Aiko moves forward before Chiyo can respond, her lavender eyes widening behind those rounded glasses. "Those are... those are actual NSAIDs," she breathes, reaching out but stopping short of actually taking them. "Not expired. Still sealed." Her fingers tremble slightly. "We've been rationing aspirin for three months."
Rika's expression shifts, the hostility bleeding into something more complex. She lowers the bat slightly, though she doesn't put it down. "You're just... giving those away?" Suspicion threads through her voice. "What's the catch?"
"No catch." You keep the bottles extended. "You said we could talk. I'm talking."
Chiyo takes the bottles from your hand, examining them with clinical efficiency. She unscrews one cap, checks the seal, then closes it again. For several long seconds, she simply stands there, weighing the medication in one hand like she's calculating its exact value.
"Roxy," she says finally, not looking away from you. "Get her crutches."
The woman in the bear hoodie moves immediately, retrieving your mobility aids from where they lean against the wall. She brings them over and holds them out to you. You accept them, fitting them under your arms with practiced ease.
Chiyo pockets the medication bottles. "You've got skills," she says flatly. "Medical training. That's why you've survived."
It's not entirely accurate, but you don't correct her. Sometimes what people believe is more useful than the truth.
"We need someone who knows pharmaceuticals," Chiyo continues, her green eyes boring into yours. "Someone who can identify what's worth taking, what's dangerous, what can be mixed." She pauses. "Aiko knows basics. You know more."
Rika shifts her weight, the bat hanging loose at her side now. "We don't need dead weight," she mutters, but there's less conviction in it.
"She's not dead weight if she's useful." Chiyo's tone remains utterly flat. "Question is whether she wants to be useful, or whether she wants to keep scraping by alone until she runs out of luck."
The weight of four gazes settles on you, waiting.

You adjust your grip on the crutches, meeting Chiyo's unwavering stare. "What exactly does being 'useful' mean? I want to know what I'm signing up for."
Chiyo's expression remains neutral, but there's a flicker of something—approval, maybe—in those green eyes. "Smart question," she says. "Most people jump at the offer without asking."
Rika shifts her weight, the baseball bat now resting against her shoulder. "Means you pull your weight. We don't carry freeloaders."
"You'd help with pharmacy runs," Chiyo continues, her voice maintaining that same flat, businesslike cadence. "Identifying medications. Dosage calculations. Triage if someone gets hurt. We've had... complications. Infections. Rika broke two fingers last month and we had to guess at pain management."
Aiko pushes her glasses up, her lavender eyes fixed on you with uncomfortable intensity. "The statistical probability of antibiotic resistance increases exponentially when dosing is imprecise. We need someone who understands pharmacological interactions. Someone who won't accidentally poison us trying to help."
"You'd get a space," Chiyo says. "Food rations. Water. Protection. We defend our own." She pauses, her gaze dropping briefly to your crutches, then back to your face. "You'd contribute to supply runs when possible. If you can't physically carry much, you can spot, navigate, provide overwatch. Everyone does what they can do."
Roxy leans against one of the overturned tables, her hand still resting near her pistol. "The void demons are thickest near the pharmacy wing," she says conversationally. "That's where we lost Devon three months back. Tore his throat out before we could get him clear." Her expression doesn't change. "You'd be going into hot zones. That part's not negotiable."
"We don't take risks for nothing," Rika adds, her blue eyes hard. "You fuck up, you cost us supplies or get one of us hurt, you're out. No warnings. No second chances."
Chiyo holds up one hand slightly, and both women fall silent. "You'd answer to me," she says simply. "Final decisions are mine. You don't like an order, you can voice it. Once. Then you follow through or you leave." She tilts her head fractionally. "We're not a democracy. We're a survival unit. That's how we've made it this long."
The food court feels suddenly smaller, the weight of their collective attention pressing down. Behind Chiyo, Aiko fidgets with her map, clearly anxious about the prolonged social interaction. Roxy watches you with detached curiosity, like she's studying an interesting insect.
"You want time to think about it," Chiyo says. It's not a question, but there's something almost permissive in her tone. "Or you want to decide now."

Accept Chiyo's offer and join their group
Outcome
Westfield Heights Mall - Third Floor Food Court at 16:42 on Friday Nov 03, 2023.
You lower your crutches slightly, your posture relaxing a fraction. "I'll join," you say simply. "I accept your terms."
Chiyo's expression doesn't change, but she gives a single, economical nod. "Good." She turns to the others. "Roxy, help her with supplies. Aiko, inventory what she brought. Rika, finish the sweep."
Rika's jaw works for a moment, like she wants to argue, but she just hefts her baseball bat and stalks off toward the western food stalls, muttering something under her breath you don't catch.
Roxy moves past you to the counter, already assessing the water cases and canned goods with a practiced eye. "We'll get this stuff back to base," she says, her voice lighter now, almost friendly. "The void's been kind today. Usually takes more sacrifices before it offers bounty."
You're not entirely sure how to respond to that, so you don't.
Aiko approaches cautiously, her lavender eyes fixed on your wheelchair-backpack. "May I?" she asks, gesturing toward it. Her voice is soft, hesitant. "I need to catalog your medications. Dosages. Expiration dates. It's—it's important for resource allocation."
"Go ahead," you tell her, shrugging the pack off your shoulders. Your joints protest the movement, a dull ache that's become so constant you barely register it anymore.
She takes it with both hands, handling it like something precious. Her fingers move quickly through the contents, pulling out bottles and blister packs, examining each label with intense focus. "Naproxen, 220 milligrams... Ibuprofen, 200... Oh." She pauses, holding up a small orange prescription bottle. "Tramadol. This is—this is controlled. Where did you get this?"
"Pharmacy raid. Six months ago."
Her eyes widen behind her glasses. "Six months and you still have it? You haven't been using it?"
"Saving it for emergencies."
Aiko looks at you with something approaching awe. "That's... that's remarkable impulse control. Most people would have burned through this immediately." She carefully places the bottle back in the pack, her movements reverent.
Chiyo watches this exchange without comment, her arms crossed over her chest. When Aiko finishes her preliminary inventory, Chiyo speaks again. "You'll bunk in the sporting goods store. Third floor, east wing. It's defensible and close to our supply cache." She pauses. "We eat communally. Dinner's at seven. You'll meet the rest of the protocols then."
"The rest of the protocols?"
"Rules. Schedules. Watch rotations." Chiyo's green eyes bore into yours. "You're part of the unit now. That means you learn how we operate. No shortcuts."
Roxy emerges from behind the counter, balancing two water cases stacked on top of each other. "I can take point getting this back," she announces. "Bear says the eastern route is clear."
Chiyo glances at you. "Can you make it to the east wing on your own, or do you need assistance?"
