A Bestiary of monsters.
- #1Skin walker
Keys: skinwalker, Skin walker
Skinwalkers are shapeshifters that typically transform between human form and a canine form, most often a dog. They hunt in packs and are territorial. Skinwalkers can infect others through a bite, turning victims into skinwalkers as well. In animal form they are fast, strong, and aggressive. Silver weapons are lethal, and when killed in animal form they revert to human.
- #2Werewolf
Keys: werewolves, Werewolf
Werewolves are humans cursed to transform into wolf-like creatures. The condition is spread through a bite. Transformations are violent and difficult to control, triggered by the full moon, and many werewolves do not remember their actions afterward. Some attempt to resist or manage the curse, creating moral conflict. Silver is lethal to werewolves.
- #3Shapeshifters
Keys: shifter, shapeshifters, Shapeshifter
Shapeshifters can copy the appearance of specific humans, often to commit crimes or manipulate others. They are not infectious and do not spread their condition. Shapeshifters shed distorted human skin when changing forms, which can be used to identify them. Silver weapons can kill them. They act deliberately and are not driven by a curse.
- #4Black dog
Keys: black dog, Black dogs
Black dogs are supernatural omens of death that attach themselves to specific individuals. Only the targeted person can see or hear the black dog. Once attached, the victim is stalked until death, often driven by fear or paranoia. Black dogs are not demons and are not typically summoned through deals. Killing a black dog requires identifying and destroying the entity directly, often through ritual or physical confrontation.
- #5Hellhound
Keys: hellhounds, Hellhound · Secondary:
Hellhounds are demonic creatures often used to enforce deals or punish targets. They are usually invisible, revealing themselves only to their victim shortly before killing them. Hellhounds are extremely violent and leave distinctive claw wounds. They are not omens but active hunters sent with purpose. Special methods or protections are required to detect or stop them, e.g. goofer dust, demon killing blades.
- #6Witch
Keys: Witch, warlocks, warlock, witches
Witches are humans who practice magic through spells, rituals, and ingredients. Their power varies widely and often depends on knowledge, preparation, and bargains with dark forces. Witchcraft commonly involves blood, sacrifice, or symbolic acts. Killing a witch does not automatically undo their spells. Witches are morally diverse — some seek power, others survival — but magic in Supernatural always comes at a cost.
- #7Vampire
Keys: vampire, vampires
Vampires are created when a human is fed vampire blood and survives the transformation. Infection does not occur through a bite alone; the victim must ingest vampire blood. Once turned, vampires experience intense blood addiction and physical changes. They live in nests, blend into society, and often struggle between restraint and feeding. Vampires cannot survive without blood, though can consume animal blood. Killing a vampire requires decapitation or a stake through the heart; other injuries are not reliably fatal. Dead man's blood is poisonous to them.
- #8Rugaru
Keys: Rugaru
Rugaru. They're mean, nasty little suckers -- rotted teeth, wormy skin, the works. They start out human, for all intents and purpose. About age 30, they start changing -- bones shift around, animal instincts kick in. But most of all, they're hungry. At first, for everything, but then for long pig. Hunger grows in 'till they can't fight it, 'till they got to take themselves a big, juicy chomp and then it happens. They transform completely and fast. One bite's all it takes -- eyes, teeth, skin all turns. No going back, either. They feed once, they're a monster forever.
- #9Djinn
Keys: Djinn
Djinn are predatory creatures that trap victims in vivid hallucinations or idealized realities while feeding on them. Victims may appear comatose or unresponsive in the real world. Djinn prefer prolonged feeding rather than immediate kills. Iron can harm or kill a djinn. Encounters often blur reality, memory, and desire.
- #10Revenant
Keys: Revenant, revenants
Revenants are reanimated corpses driven by vengeance. They are often created intentionally through ritual rather than occurring naturally. Revenants are stronger and more resilient than normal humans and pursue specific targets tied to their death. Destroying a revenant usually requires stopping the ritual or killing the controlling party.
- #11Wendigo
Keys: Wendigo, wendigos
Wendigos are humans transformed into monsters through cannibalism under extreme conditions, such as starvation in isolated, cold environments. Once transformed, they become inhuman predators that hunt people in remote forests and wilderness areas. Wendigos are fast, strong, and capable of mimicking human voices to lure victims. They prefer areas where people can disappear without notice. Killing a wendigo requires fire; conventional weapons are largely ineffective.
