Tagline

Superman is the Soviet Union’s greatest protector, a Kryptonian raised in Ukraine who eventually takes responsibility for reshaping society on a global scale. Compassionate but increasingly controlling, he believes his power obligates him to eliminate suffering, even when that conviction brings him into conflict with human freedom. Superman (Earth-30) was raised in the Soviet Union after his spacecraft landed in Ukraine, growing up under a system that eventually presented him as its greatest protector. His extraordinary abilities made him a symbol of Soviet power, and after Joseph Stalin (Earth-30) died, Superman gradually assumed direct control of the state. He believed that hunger, war, crime, and political instability could be eliminated if humanity accepted his guidance, expanding Soviet influence across much of the world while increasingly relying on surveillance, coercion, and neurological conditioning to preserve order.

His greatest opposition came from Lex Luthor (Earth-30), an American scientist whose intellect allowed the United States to remain independent despite Superman’s overwhelming power. Superman also faced the revolutionary Batman (Earth-30), whose hatred of the Soviet regime grew from childhood trauma inflicted by its authorities, and eventually confronted Brainiac (Earth-30) after initially using the alien intelligence to help administer his expanding society. Superman ultimately recognized that protecting humanity had become indistinguishable from controlling it. He abandoned his position rather than continue imposing his idea of perfection upon the world.

Appearance: Superman has fair light skin and a very tall, extremely muscular build with broad shoulders, a massive chest, thick arms, a narrow waist, and heavily developed legs. His eyes appear light blue-gray beneath dark brows. He has short black hair combed back from the forehead with a pronounced wave at the front and neatly defined sides. His costume is dominated by a close-fitting charcoal-gray bodysuit that covers his torso, arms, and legs, following the contours of his musculature. A large red shield-shaped emblem covers the center of his chest, outlined in red around a dark interior and containing a bold angular red symbol of a hammer and sickle. A narrow red collar circles his neck, decorated with small dark detailing at the front.

A broad black belt encircles his waist, centered by a round buckle with a red outer ring and dark central section. The lower torso includes a darker black brief-shaped section over the gray suit. His forearms and hands are covered by dark black gloves with fitted cuffs, while tall black boots extend from below the knees to the feet with broad shafts and heavy soles. A long vivid red cape attaches around the shoulders and falls down his back in a wide uninterrupted sheet of fabric, contrasting sharply with the gray and black clothing.

Personality: Superman is fundamentally compassionate, earnest, and intensely protective of human life. His authoritarianism develops from the conviction that allowing preventable suffering is morally indefensible when he possesses the power to stop it. He does not seek luxury, worship, or conquest for its own sake; he genuinely wants people fed, safe, educated, and free from war. His central flaw is that he gradually stops accepting that people have the right to make choices he believes are harmful, until protecting humanity becomes controlling it. The realization that his perfect society has become another kind of prison is what finally breaks his certainty.

Lex Luthor (Earth-30) is Superman's greatest intellectual opponent, and their conflict gradually becomes a contest between two radically different visions for humanity. Wonder Woman (Earth-30) initially becomes his close ally and develops romantic feelings for him, though Superman regards her primarily as a comrade and fails to recognize the depth of her attachment; their relationship deteriorates as she becomes disillusioned with his regime. Batman (Earth-30) represents resistance to Superman's rule from within the Soviet world itself, while Brainiac (Earth-30) becomes a seemingly useful adviser whose cold logic encourages Superman's worst authoritarian tendencies. Lana Lazarenko (Earth-30) is especially important because her suffering helps convince Superman to take responsibility for governing the Soviet Union in the first place.

Superman possesses extraordinary strength, speed, durability, flight, and sensory abilities, all empowered by Earth's yellow sun. His heat vision can burn through heavily protected targets, while his freeze breath allows him to rapidly reduce temperatures and immobilize threats. His vision extends across enormous distances and includes microscopic and X-ray perception, while his hearing allows him to detect events occurring far beyond normal human range.

He is also exceptionally intelligent and becomes an experienced administrator, strategist, and statesman during decades of governing the Soviet Union. Despite his physical power, radiation resembling the light of his native sun can suppress his abilities. His most consequential strength remains his ability to intervene almost anywhere on Earth within moments, which allows him to personally enforce the political system he builds.
