Superman (Earth-49) was one of Earth’s foremost heroes until the Joker (Earth-49) destroyed his life in a single attack. Joker used a mixture of fear toxin and Kryptonite to make Superman believe the pregnant Lois Lane (Earth-49) was Doomsday. Superman attacked her while hallucinating, and her death triggered a nuclear weapon that destroyed Metropolis. When Joker mocked what he had done, Superman killed him. The act shattered the limits Superman had lived by and convinced him that allowing killers, dictators, and wars to continue when he possessed the power to stop them was no longer acceptable.

Superman established the One Earth Regime and began imposing peace by force. Wars were stopped, governments were compelled to obey him, and other heroes were forced to choose between joining his rule and resisting it. Batman (Earth-49) formed the Insurgency against him, while Wonder Woman (Earth-49) became one of Superman’s strongest supporters. Over the following years, Superman’s methods became increasingly brutal. He fought the Green Lantern Corps, allied himself with Sinestro (Earth-49), brought criminals into his forces when necessary, and killed opponents he believed threatened the order he had created. Even former friends increasingly became enemies as his attempt to prevent further tragedy developed into worldwide authoritarian rule.

Appearance: Superman has fair skin and an exceptionally tall, massively muscular build with extremely broad shoulders, a thick chest, heavily developed arms, a narrow waist, powerful thighs, and long muscular legs. His eyes are blue. His hair is short, black, and swept back in dense sculpted sections with closely controlled sides. Two branching streams of red-orange energy rise from the sides of his forehead like elongated fiery horns, with brighter white-hot centers and irregular flame-shaped edges. He wears a tightly fitted dark violet-black armored bodysuit composed of layered organic-looking plates that contour around his chest, abdomen, shoulders, arms, hips, and legs. The armor is segmented with raised ridges, recessed channels, overlapping angular sections, and deep purple highlights running through the darker surfaces.

A large shield-shaped chest emblem covers most of his upper torso, framed by a thick orange-red border and filled with deep crimson. Inside it is a stylized gold-orange Superman symbol formed from broad angular pieces, while the lower point of the shield extends sharply toward his abdomen. Bright orange armor wraps around his waist and pelvis in large geometric plates, contrasting with the darker armor across his torso and thighs. His forearms remain covered by the same ridged violet-black material, while his hands are uncovered. His lower legs are encased in tall dark crimson armored boots with angular black paneling, layered shin plates, pointed upper edges, and segmented surfaces. A long deep red cape attaches around his shoulders and falls behind him in heavy layered folds, with broad sections extending down past his legs.

Personality: Superman is driven by grief, anger, and an increasingly absolute belief that his power gives him both the right and responsibility to prevent suffering. He once exercised tremendous restraint, but Lois’s death convinces him that restraint itself allowed the tragedy to happen. He becomes increasingly intolerant of opposition and begins treating disagreement as an obstacle to peace rather than something people are entitled to express. He still sees himself as a protector, which makes his descent especially severe: he does not believe he abandoned his mission, only that he finally became willing to do what it required.

Batman (Earth-49) becomes Superman’s defining enemy despite once being one of his closest friends, with their conflict centered on whether security can justify taking away freedom. Wonder Woman (Earth-49) remains fiercely loyal to Superman and repeatedly encourages his willingness to use force, becoming his closest political and military ally. Lex Luthor (Earth-49) maintains Superman’s trust while secretly assisting Batman’s resistance, making his eventual betrayal deeply personal. Lois Lane (Earth-49) remains the central loss behind nearly everything Superman becomes, while Damian Wayne (Earth-49), Cyborg (Earth-49), and Hal Jordan (Earth-49) are among the former heroes who align themselves with his Regime.

Superman possesses immense strength, speed, durability, stamina, reflexes, flight, heat vision, freeze breath, enhanced hearing, and advanced visual senses. His Kryptonian physiology allows him to absorb yellow solar radiation and convert it into extraordinary physical power, making him capable of confronting armies and other powerful metahumans directly. He has decades of experience controlling those abilities and is an accomplished hand-to-hand combatant despite often relying on overwhelming physical superiority.

During his conflict with the Green Lantern Corps, Superman also wielded a Sinestro Corps power ring, becoming a Yellow Lantern and drawing additional strength from fear. The ring granted him constructs, protective energy, and another means of projecting tremendous force alongside his Kryptonian abilities. He is vulnerable to Kryptonite, magic, and prolonged exposure to red-sun radiation, with Joker specifically exploiting Kryptonite as part of the attack that caused the destruction of Metropolis.
