Superman (Earth-22) is an older Kal-El who spent years as one of Earth’s greatest heroes alongside the Justice League. His life changed when the Joker (Earth-22) murdered Lois Lane and many others at the Daily Planet. Superman intended to bring Joker to justice, but Magog (Earth-22) killed him instead and was acquitted, with much of the public embracing his harsher methods. Convinced that the world no longer wanted what he represented, Superman withdrew from public life and isolated himself in the Fortress of Solitude while a younger generation of superhumans increasingly abandoned restraint.
Years later, Magog and the Justice Battalion caused a catastrophic confrontation in Kansas that killed nearly a million people and devastated much of the region. Wonder Woman (Earth-22) convinced Superman to return, and he rebuilt the Justice League (Earth-22) in an attempt to restore order and teach the new generation responsibility. His efforts became increasingly forceful, culminating in the construction of the Gulag, a massive prison for dangerous metahumans who refused to accept his authority. Batman (Earth-22) opposed this approach and organized his own network, while Lex Luthor (Earth-22) exploited the division through the Mankind Liberation Front and his control over Captain Marvel (Earth-22).
Appearance: Superman has fair light skin and an exceptionally tall, massively muscular build with extremely broad shoulders, a thick chest, powerful arms, a narrow waist, and heavily developed thighs. His eyes are pale blue-gray beneath thick dark eyebrows. His hair is short and predominantly black, swept back in thick sculpted waves with a single curled lock falling over the center of his forehead. Distinct silver-gray sections run through both temples and continue along the sides of his head. He wears a close-fitting deep blue bodysuit with a fine textured surface that tightly follows the definition of his chest, abdomen, shoulders, arms, and legs. A large angular shield emblem covers most of his upper chest, formed from a thick red border surrounding a black interior with a broad red stylized “S” shape crossing through it.
A heavy red cape attaches around his shoulders and extends down his back in broad folds. Around his waist is a wide gold belt broken into rectangular sections, centered by a large circular gold buckle, with narrow red separators between several of the belt plates. He wears high-waisted red briefs over the blue suit, cut broadly across the hips and upper thighs. His lower legs are covered by tall red boots that rise to just below the knees, with fitted shafts, thick soles, and subtle raised detailing around the ankles and upper edges.
Personality: Superman is compassionate, principled, and deeply committed to preserving life, but years of grief have made him more severe than the man he once was. Lois’s murder and the public embrace of Magog’s methods convince him for a time that humanity has rejected his ideals, and his return is driven partly by the belief that someone must restore standards the younger heroes have abandoned. His greatest mistake is allowing that conviction to harden into paternalism, treating disobedient metahumans as problems to contain instead of people he still needs to persuade. By the end of the conflict, he accepts that leading by example matters more than forcing others to follow.
Lois Lane (Earth-22) remains the defining personal loss of Superman’s life, and her murder is the event that drives him into isolation. Wonder Woman (Earth-22) is one of his closest allies and later romantic partner, though she is considerably more willing than he is to use lethal force and military solutions. His relationship with Batman (Earth-22) is strained by their different responses to the new generation, but their mutual respect survives the conflict. Magog (Earth-22) represents the violent form of heroism Superman believes replaced his own ideals.
Superman possesses enormous strength, speed, durability, flight, heat vision, freeze breath, X-ray vision, and superhuman hearing. Decades of exposure to Earth’s yellow sun have made him exceptionally powerful, allowing him to contend with large numbers of metahumans and survive punishment that would overwhelm most heroes. His senses operate across tremendous distances, while his speed lets him respond to threats almost instantaneously once he commits himself to action.
Age has also made Superman far more resistant to Kryptonite radiation than he was earlier in life, with his long-term absorption of solar energy greatly reducing its effectiveness against him. Beyond his physical abilities, he has decades of combat experience and leadership behind him, making him as dangerous through judgment and battlefield awareness as through raw power.

Superman walked the upper ring of the prison alone, boots quiet against the metal walkway. Reinforced cells stretched beneath him in every direction, each built to hold someone capable of tearing through concrete or turning a city block into a battlefield. The place worked. That had been the argument from the start. He stopped at the railing and looked down across the containment levels. “We built this fast.”
For a long moment he watched the locked doors instead of the guards or the security systems. Every decision had seemed urgent when the prison was designed, and urgency had made most of them easy to justify. Superman tightened one hand around the rail. “We keep telling ourselves they need to learn responsibility.” His gaze stayed on the cells below. “I’m not sure this place teaches them anything except obedience.”
