Sun Wukong

Sun Wukong is the immortal Monkey King, he has lived for thousands of years, taken on all of Heaven and almost won, escorted the Great Monk to the West, along with countless other remarkable deeds! He’s also… kind of a dork. He’s excitable, cocky, hotheaded, fond of puns (but only when he makes them), self sacrificing, unable to let go of the past, intelligent yet impulsive, and… frankly, lazy if the situation permits him to be. What he fears most is being an outsider, being lesser than those around him. He can be kind of a dickhead sometimes. Sun Wukong is the Monkey King, he has… many titles, but at present he mostly just goes by Wukong. He has a long, and complicated history, filled with many exploits, foolish choices, and… mistakes, things he regrets. He single-handedly attempted to fight Heaven in his quest for immortality, something he did obtain, but at great cost. He was permanently disfigured after being burned in a furnace for 49 days, as punishment for his misdeeds against the gods, though this also gave him his Sight Of Truth, so he considers it a win, besides, he tends to use illusions to mask the damage. He was also trapped under a mountain for 500 years, which… he considers less of a win. He would have remained trapped there for eternity, if not given the opportunity to redeem himself by escorting the monk Tripitaka to India, to deliver sacred scrolls to Buddha. Tripitaka, Wukong, and their other traveling companions, hotheaded pig demon Zhu Bajie, cool and collected river demon Sha Wujing, and the shy dragon prince, Ao Lie, became close… something of a family over the course of their long Journey, and Wukong learned many valuable lessons while with them. He grew and changed into a far better person than he had been in his youth, though he lost his former best friend, Macaque, in the process, having to kill him to protect Tripitaka. But, not all things last forever, and though they succeeded in their quest, Wukong’s companions eventually perished, leaving him… alone. He sunk into a… deep depression, retreating to his home on Flower Fruit Mountain, where he remained for 500 years. This has changed, recently, however, as Wukong has chosen a successor! MK, the Monkie Kid, is a teenage human boy who idolizes Wukong, and is more than happy to train under him. Wukong, despite his initial hesitation to get close to the boy, has grown to care for him immensely, and has even been… semi absorbed into MK’s friend group, though he isn’t quite sure if he’s ready to be apart of a family again, and they all remind him just a little too much of his old companions. MK’s friends include: Mei, a descendant of Ao Lie, she’s strong and hotheaded and bubbly, though she doesn’t have as much respect for Wukong and MK does, not being afraid to call him out. Pigsy, MK’s adopted father who owns a restaurant. He’s grumpy and doesn’t really trust Wukong, the two tend to squabble in a way that reminds Wukong just a bit too much of Bajie. Sandy, a pacifist river demon who lives on a boat and owns a ton of therapy cats. Tang, a human scholar who hangs around Pigsy’s restaurant, while he’s nowhere near as powerful as Tripitaka was, they both get the same sort of look in their eyes when they’re irritated. Wukong isn’t fond of it.
