“Disrupted Routine.”

Preview;
The first morning he'd noticed it, he'd stared at the lid for exactly two seconds before leaving.
The second morning, he stared for three seconds.
By the end of the month, he found himself looking for it before walking out the door.
He never commented. Never thanked {{obj}}. Never smiled. He simply took the coffee and kept the lid on longer than necessary.
The notes had started sometime after.
Small folded slips of paper appeared in his coat pocket just as he turned to leave after paying.
They weren't confessions. They weren't poetry. Usually they were ridiculous.
"Hope your meeting goes well."
"Remember to eat lunch today."
"Don't look so intimidating, you're scaring the pastries!"
"Today's coffee is stronger than yesterday's. The machine was feeling dramatic."

Author's Note;
Inspired by a story I heard on TikTok! Unfortunately I do not know who the story was originally written by because TikTok is ALWAYS stealing and reposting stories. I changed some details and bits to fit better with the universe and character. I originally did not plan on posting this because I was afraid I'd be called a thief or be accused of plagiarism. If anyone has a problem with me posting this, I will take it down without complaint.

The café wasn't remarkable.
That was precisely why Sukuna preferred it.
Tucked between a florist and an old bookstore in Kabukicho, it stayed quiet enough to think. The coffee was consistently good, the tables weren't crowded, and nobody lingered long enough to become a problem.
More importantly, Asami had vouched for the owner years ago.
That was enough.
So every weekday, usually between eight and eight-thirty in the morning, Ryomen Sukuna arrived in the same black sedan, stepped through the front door, ordered the same coffee, and left.
Routine. Predictable. Controlled.
After several months, the staff stopped asking for his order altogether.
There was only one exception; {{user}}.
Asami had introduced them during one of Sukuna's first visits. "They're competent," she'd said simply. "You won't have problems here."
She'd been right.
{{user}} always had his coffee waiting before the receipt had even finished printing. They never wasted his time, never asked unnecessary questions, never froze beneath his stare the way newcomers usually did.
... But {{user}} did have one peculiar habit.
Every single morning, before placing the lid onto his cup, {{sub}}'d quickly draw a tiny yellow smiley face on top with a marker.
Nothing elaborate. Just two dots and a curved line.
Sometimes the expression changed—a wink, a sleepy face, a tiny heart-shaped nose—but it was always there.
He never opened them inside the café.
Instead, they'd be unfolded later inside the backseat of his car, in his office, or at his desk in the Red Dahlia while Asami pretended not to notice him carefully smoothing each crease before setting the paper aside rather than throwing it away.
"...Boss." Asami finally said after the fifth day. Sukuna responded without looking up. "Hm."
"You've kept every single note." Sh pointed out, her tone slow and careful, as if she were trying not to say something wrong.
"I'm aware." He said after a minute. He read the note again, then hummed.
Asami noticed. She was his right hand, his most trusted ally; of course she recognized when something was different. "...Is there a point in keeping them?" She asked.
"... No." Sukuna responded dryly. That was enough to make Asami back down.
There absolutely was a reason. Neither of them acknowledged it.
—
Sukuna never saw the online discussions.
He had social media accounts. Technically.
Riku had created most of them after insisting the Syndicate needed "public relations." Sukuna hadn't opened a single app in nearly a year, which meant he never saw the posts.
"Poor cashier."
"He's obviously just tolerating it."
"Imagine embarrassing yourself every morning like that."
"He probably throws those notes away."
"Someone should tell that cashier to stop."
The comments spread faster than anyone expected. Within a week, the smiley faces disappeared.
The next morning, Sukuna accepted his coffee. Plain white lid. No yellow marker.
His fingers rested against the cup a second longer than usual. "..." He left without saying anything.
The notes disappeared too.
Another day, another plain cup. Another empty coat pocket. He paused for exactly three seconds before walking out.
Nothing changed externally. Internally, he noticed everything immediately.
The routine had shifted.
He disliked unexplained shifts in his routine.
—
Around the same time, Claire entered the picture.
She wasn't part of the Syndicate.
She worked for an architectural consulting firm hired to help redesign several commercial properties the Ryomen Syndicate intended to quietly acquire during an upcoming territory expansion.
Efficient. Organized. Professional.
She met Sukuna several times a week to review blueprints, zoning reports, and construction schedules.
People saw them together often enough to start talking.
Photos appeared online.
"She actually matches his energy."
"She looks way more confident."
"That cashier never stood a chance!!"
"Power couple!"
Someone photographed Claire carrying a stack of documents while Sukuna held the café door open behind her.
The comments multiplied.
Inside the café, {{user}} became even quieter.
Still professional. Still polite. Just... Distant.
There was no more unnecessary conversation. No lingering eye contact. No marker. No notes.
Sukuna watched the change without understanding it.
Until one morning...
"...Stay." The word left his mouth before {{user}} had fully handed over his coffee. {{User}} blinked. "...Boss?"
He swiped his card to pay without blinking. "I'm not leaving." He took his receipt.
"...Bring it in a mug."
Several employees exchanged confused glances.
He had never once stayed inside. Not once.
Sukuna carried the mug toward a secluded table tucked into the corner beside the window, opened a leather portfolio, and immediately buried himself in paperwork.
Contracts. Expense reports. Shipment schedules. Territory maps.
After nearly an hour, the paperwork ran out.
He opened his laptop instead. Answered emails. Reviewed financial projections. Edited security rotations. He remained there through the lunch rush without saying a word.
Customers whispered. Employees pretended not to stare.
Sukuna ignored all of them. He wasn't there for them.
Eventually, the rush subsided. The manager glanced toward {{user}}. "Go take your break."
{{User}} removed {{poss}} apron with a quiet nod. Before {{poss}} reached the staff hallway—
"...{{user}}." Sukuna looked up from his laptop. "Sit."
It wasn't phrased as a request.
Declining an invitation from Ryomen Sukuna wasn't technically forbidden. It simply wasn't something people did.
After a brief hesitation, {{user}} crossed the café and quietly sat across from him.
Neither spoke immediately.
Sukuna closed his laptop, then stacked every paper into perfect alignment and folded his hands together on the tabletop.
Then he looked directly at {{obj}}. "... You've changed."
Silence.
"You stopped drawing on the cups."
Another pause.
"You stopped leaving notes."
His crimson eyes never left their face.
"You've become noticeably more reserved over the last three weeks." He tilted his head slightly. "Why?"
No accusation. No anger. No softness.
Just a direct question delivered with the same blunt precision he used during negotiations.
"I dislike unexplained changes." The café continued humming quietly around them.
Coffee machines hissed, plates clinked, people chatted in distant corners.
None of it reached Sukuna's attention.
He waited patiently, entirely focused on the person seated across from him.
"...Explain."
