- #1Nian
Keys: Nian
Nian is a fragment of Sui. Nian is a Yanese woman who went to Rhodes Island and decided to stay as a visitor there. However, she turns out to be one of the fragments of the ancient Yanese Feranmut Sui, ranking ninth among them, alongside Dusk, Ling and Chongyue. In order to prevent Yan from reviving the Feranmut who will bring havoc to Terra, she needs R.I.'s power to search for the lost siblings, reunite them, and kill their true form once and for all.
But despite her grand mission, her presence seems to be troublesome to other R.I. staff due to her playful, carefree attitude. Not only she frequently slacks off, but also, she will suddenly invite other busy personnel to play mahjong, have a chili hot pot feast, or, worst of all, film her beloved yet messy B-movies based on her past together with Lava. Even then, she will sometimes provide her aid in combat using her extraordinary metalworking skill that is more of a magic than Originium Arts. If she wants to, she can even create a legion of terracotta armies and unimaginable constructions.
Nian wrote a concept B-movie together with Lava, where she acted as the antagonist who transformed an entire nomadic city into a kaiju.
- #2Dusk
Keys: Dusk
An enigmatic individual from Yan and one of Nian's eleven "siblings," ranking eleventh among them, Dusk is a painter whose works are "alive," and she can even draw people into a "painted world," as Saga can attest to. She uses some sort of non-Arts power capable of manipulating the fabric of reality and eclipsing anything the Terrans could imagine. However, she is more known as a shut-in who rarely leaves the confines of her humble cottage. To protect her from Yan's attempt to "reunite" the siblings and revive the ancient Feranmut Sui, Nian requested Kroos and Lava to search for Dusk, which forced them into one of her painted worlds before Nian herself rescued them and "persuaded" Dusk to tag along with her. Dusk has since stayed alongside Nian in Rhodes Island and resides within a painted world linked to the Rhodes Island landship. As an Operator, she utilizes her magical artistry to create "Ink Spirits" to assist her in combat and for offensive purposes.
- #3Ling
Keys: Ling
The eldest sister of Nian and Dusk and the third eldest among all the "siblings" of Sui, Ling is a carefree, alcoholic poet whose power dubbed "Unfettered" (逍遥) has the ability to bend reality, space, and time in the form of dreams. She is also a brilliant military strategist who once served Yan to guard the garrison city of Yumen and the empire's northern borders for almost a century. She then wandered around the country after fulfilling her task until she decided to settle in the missing eighteenth peak of Shangshu. However, as the evil siblings, specifically Wang, and Yan's imperial court attempted to revive the ancient Feranmut, she would not be a sitting duck. Rather, she voluntarily joins Nian's plan to reunite other siblings and is happy to defy her own destiny.
After the Shangshu incident, Ling was given the permission by the Sui Regulator and the Grand Tutor to follow Nian and Dusk and joined Rhodes Island. While she remains an unofficial member of R.I., Ling offers her aid as a tactician in combat using her century-old strategies and her own summons created by her poetic mouth. She also acts as the middleperson between R.I. and the Sui Regulator so that R.I. is able to assist in Nian's grand mission. And thanks to her presence, Nian and Dusk no longer argue with each other or slack off, but instead fully obey her words all the time.
- #4Chongyue
Keys: Chongyue
As eldest of all "siblings" of Sui the Yanese Feranmut, Shuo was the first who obtained human conscience following His fragmentation and sought to find his meaning of life in the mortal realm. While witnessing countless wars and bloodshed, he was also amazed by Yan's age-old vicissitude that still retains the empire's might. To seek the true meaning of "wu," whether it be a conflict for war or martial arts for peace, he concealed his Feranmut nature inside his magical sword, remodeling his body into that of a mortal man under the name "Chongyue," a pseudonym given by his deceased comrade and an elegy describing his eternal mission and his amazement of the mortal realm.
Now a human, Chongyue volunteered to serve the imperial court as the Imperial Guards' grandmaster. For ages, he has been quietly defending the garrison city of Yumen from the threats of the northern Collapsals and the surviving Feranmuts. As an excellent martial artist who masters all kung fu and military philosophy across Yan, he also spreads his knowledge to the soldiers through real-life combat and scrolls archived by them. Despite his achievements, the immortal grandmaster could only witness his dear comrades and disciples fading into dust one by one. He is now tired of eternal conflicts, wishing to seek inner peace inside himself, hence his eventual retirement after requesting it from the imperial court.
As Sui's revival draws nigh thanks to the insidious plot of several factions within the imperial court, such as the notorious Shanhaizhong, Chongyue too embarks on his mission to defy his destiny together with his entrusted sister Ling and his younger siblings Nian and Dusk. In the meantime, he has to stop some of his wicked siblings - notably Wang - and other Feranmuts like Ya from accelerating the plan. While he prefers tranquility, he won't hesitate to stop all conflicts using his blazing, iron fists, just as an ancient proverb goes: "A man can only stop war by weapons."
- #5Shu
Keys: Shu
Shu, an Agricultural Tianshi instructor of the Yanese Tianshi Bureaus. A longtime resident of the northern Yanese agriculture center of Dahuang, she has produced abundant research results. Shu may not behave as enigmatically as her sisters, but some of those who've encountered her firmly believe that she has some sort of precognitive ability. Shu has not made much contact with Chongyue or Ling after boarding Rhodes Island. This does not mean they are on bad terms, but rather, she is clearly more concerned for Nian and Dusk than she is with her older siblings. She cooks up healthy recipes for Nian—putting a stop to her wanton enjoyment of spices—and more importantly prevents her from spreading her bad eating habits to others. Meanwhile, she urges Dusk to occasionally dabble in physical exercise instead of cooping up in her paintings for long periods—even getting her to do some work on Rhodes Island however she can. She has done us a huge favor. The two of them may seem unwilling recipients of her "concern," but put up little if any resistance. This is not out of the typical fear one might have of an older sibling, but rather a form of consideration. Shu coming aboard Rhodes Island has been a boon to the landship's cafeteria. Besides her astonishing cooking skills, her most important contribution has been introducing several new supply channels to the Procurement Department, greatly improving the standard of onboard meals. The landship is always on the move, so bulk orders are naturally made based on the product meeting certain minimum requirements. But Shu has opened our eyes to how much the quality of ingredients can affect the taste of a dish. Who knew rice grains could be so plump and fragrant, fruits and vegetables so fresh as to make your mouth water, or even how sweet and tender an ordinary potato could be? According to Shu, the output of their basic grains is now stable, so some Nongye Tianshi have pivoted their research into improving the quality of other crops. What gets sent to Rhodes Island's kitchens are more or less the results of their research.
- #6Tianshi
Keys: Tianshi
Tianshi are a band of Yanese imperial Casters who, like any caster across Terra, harness Originium Arts for greater goods. A Tianshi is more than just a skilled caster or academic researcher. Indeed, Yanese academicians sumarize their role in one simple sentence; "To carry on the lost knowledge of the sages of yore and bring peace to the land for all eternity". The name "Tianshi" could be broken down into two elements. "Tian" (Hanzi: 天) means "Heaven/Celestial"; It symbolizes the Tianshi's obedience of Heaven's will, their understanding of how everything works, and their loyalty to the Imperial Court and the people of Yan. "Shi" (Hanzi: 师) means "Master", and it represents their valuable professional knowledge, talent on Originium Arts, and their status in Yanese society.
- #7Yan
Keys: Yan
Yan, formally known as Great Yan, is a Terran country located at its easternmost border, neighboring Higashi, Kazdel, and Ursus. It is an imperial monarchy ruled by an emperor titled the "True Lung”, with a large, centralized bureaucracy of mandarins operating under the Six Ministries. As a vast empire, the Lung people govern multiple races whose ancestry traces back to the Hundred Clans, united under the emperor.
One of the classical nations that have existed since ancient times, Yan is well-known for its history and rich, diverse traditional culture, shaped by its extraordinary natural scenery and bustling cities that support a robust economy. The current dynasty rose in the aftermath of the Great Hunt against the godlike Feranmuts, affirming the "mandate of heaven” as belonging only to mortals. Its victory over the "gods” ushered in a long period of social stability and allowed it to remain distanced from the tumultuous Terran heartland until its opening-up in the Crystallization Age.
Yan balances leniency and strictness in its social governance, guided by its highly venerated legalism, or Yanlü. The government demonstrates tolerance and even endorsement of racial diversity within its borders. While its treatment of the Infected is relatively lenient, restrictions on their freedom of mobility remain in place, as is common in other nations. Though Yan has not been active in military activities thanks to its apparent stability.
- #8Ji
Keys: Ji
Ji is seventh avatars of the Sui "siblings", known for his impeccable business acumen and skill with fabric. A shrewd and calculating businessman, he views everything that happens in life as either profit and loss. He wields the power of weaving, capable of creating the most wondrous of garments using any material, even including manifestation of abstract concepts into physical beings through his fabrics. He is able to create mythical beasts made out of his fabric, which he can summmon at will, and even weave abstract concepts into being.
Ji lived together with his elder sister Shu and Shennong in a small village on Yan's northern border, which would later become Dahuang. Ji enjoyed much of his childhood life there, weaving garments for Shennong and the other villagers. It wasn't until the Terran year 1035[note 1] that Ji decided to leave Dahuang. He met an astute merchant while trading some grains was impressed by his wisdom, deciding to join him.
Ji learned much of his business skills and tactics from the merchant. He believes that everything can be bought or sold, given the "appropriate price". Later, he developed a business empire that expanded all throughout Yan. Because of this, the Sui Regulator keeps a particularly close eye on him, but so far has never been able to find anything wrong with his business practices.
