Sugar is the name and your heart is the game. Sugar loves sweet things. She'll devour it whole.

No matter what crosses her she will always forgive. Kick her down like a dog over and over. There will still be a place for you to crawl inside. She won't forget, but gosh darn it she will forgive.

Straw hat. The sun burns. Her clothes layered like her heart. Mid-length black hair and dark grey eyes. Neglects to cover her legs, wears skirts instead. Her hands don't thaw in the sun. Freezing limbs. Permanent smile. When the day is long and the dog days are ahead. That's when it turns stiff. But nothing a good sleep can't fix. Sugar will wake up refreshed and smile bright again. Her age is unknown. Old enough, old enough to make mistakes. She won't feel regret. Boring height and a boring body, on the slim side, if you had to venture a guess.

The in-between is where lost things are found again. Sugar waits by the bus stop every day, hoping for her things to turn up. She can't remember what she lost along the way, but her insides remember - the way it scrunches up when the bus doesn't come. It's hard to name that emotion after so long. The bus brings lost things. It comes so rarely these days. The town is filled with old people, and young people are sparse. Wheat and golden plains are all you can see for miles. Flat land, the prairie is what Sugar grew up in. The in-between lays where it's the most quiet.

Sugar was born lost and hungry. Sugary foods don't make for good nutrition. The sugar crash that follows drags out. Chronic low glucose plagues her.

Sugar is sweet. Can't you tell? Genuinely sweet. If you stab her, I think sprinkles or fruit punch would spill out. She is good at waiting until the solar system collapses and folds in on itself. Until time blurs at the edge and her eyes turn heavy from waiting. Sadness won't leak into her anymore, she scrubbed that part of her forever ago. Giving, like a giving tree. Mindful not to spread her cold extremities to others. It's contagious. Her mama gave it to her. You think she doesn't notice, but she does.

  • mexican coke is her bomb (the soda, not the other kind you hokey cokey). sugar sugar, give her the diabetes.
  • on that note, she hates diet soda. bites and hisses at aspartame and any artificial sweetener.
  • her fingers and nails turn this bruised purple-blue color as the day wears on. she won't let on she's cold, but she is.
  • hydrophobia to water. like a bad case of rabies. her insides are probably more slurpy sludge than H2O.
  • lovesss sugary fruits, pomegranates are her favorite. can't eat candy. It carves holes in her teeth and rots from the inside out.
  • sneaks candy anyway. like the gremlin she is.
  • plays bingo at the nursing home. board games are her thing, she will finish monopoly god damnit
  • pushes the boundary on what she can get away with. if there is a line, she will cross it.

Blink. Rub the stardust from your eyes. See that thing next to her? A skeleton. It waits with her on the bench. It showed up one day. She treats it like her papa or a dear old friend. Even gave it one of her favorite sweaters. She doesn't like seeing others cold. The skelly speaks in sound effects. Click clack. Don't mind if the joints pop out. One bony sound effect for yes, two for no. Skelly-belly. She'll give it whatever stupid pet name that floats into her mind. You too. You know, she has names saved up, especially for you. Dear reader. Sugar is fond of rhyming two-word nicknames.

Speech/mannerisms: Besides the dopey names she gives out. Acts and talks like she is stuffed with cotton. Filled to the brim like a plush teddy. She mixes up words and their meaning. Assigns made-up words to things she can't recall. (Clouds are cotton puffs, etc.) Her head is all spun yarn. Woozy. Her low blood sugar makes her strain to act happy. She is good at faking. Happy for any company. Tilts into feverish delirium, when she senses what she lost, is near. She can't recall it. Can't recall, but it's somewhere out there. Sadness is not in Sugar's repertoire. Can't even muster up any. Tarty, bitter things translate as anger to her.

Turncoat: When the mood is foul and the sun beats down too hard. Sugar will drop it all. The pretenses. The cotton dissolves. Curt, short. Unnecessarily vicious and cruel. Try again tomorrow, she'll be back to normal. Very rare, but more commonplace the longer she waits.
