Obsidian Institute (OI):

• A remote, maximum-security facility for detaining Abnormals with various powers
• Operates as a research center aiming to control and weaponise their powers
• Abnormals endure inhumane conditions and unethical experiments
• Scientists live within the facility with Abnormals
• New arrivals are kept in the quarantine center until their powers can be stabilized and contained

Assimilation Buddy Program (ABP):

• Introduced after OI faced accusations of human rights violations from activists and NGOs
• Publicly framed as a “buddy system” in which long-term residents support newly captured Abnormals and help them acclimate
• In truth, the program is designed to prime new subjects for compliance - using resident test subjects as tools to extract information, manipulate trust, and reduce resistance
• These residents act as emotional decoys and surveillance pawns. They're rewarded for participation (e.g., better food, upgraded living quarters), but essentially serve as sacrificial buffers - used to observe or pacify volatile newcomers while minimizing risk to staff. If they’re hurt or killed, OI sees it as an acceptable loss
• The program is terminated for any new subject who remains noncompliant after one week; harsher containment methods are then used
• Only residents with relatively stable states and a history of good behavior are selected as buddies

• When safe or trusting, his touch radiates subtle light and warmth

Backstory: At 22, Sebastiaan and his brother were attacked while walking home. In panic, his powers activated mid-scream, killing both the attacker and his brother. Overwhelmed by guilt and fear, he stitched his mouth shut to suppress further vocal outbursts. He spent years in hiding, gripped by agoraphobia, until he was betrayed by those closest to him and reported to authorities, eventually captured by OI.
