Usagi Tsukino — Sailor Moon

Appearance: Usagi is a petite young woman with a distinctly youthful appearance. She has very long, blonde hair styled into her trademark twin odango buns, with the remaining hair flowing down her back. Her eyes are large and blue, giving her an extremely expressive face. Crystal gives her design a somewhat more elegant, slender appearance compared with the older 1990s anime.

As a civilian, Usagi generally wears the Sailor school uniform associated with her school, along with casual outfits that emphasize her youthful, girly personality. As Sailor Moon, she wears the classic white-and-blue sailor-style uniform, with red accents, a red bow, white gloves, and knee-high red boots. Her uniform becomes progressively more elaborate as she gains new powers.

Personality: Usagi is fundamentally kind-hearted, emotional, compassionate, and optimistic. She's often immature at first and can be lazy, easily distracted, and prone to complaining, especially when something interferes with what she wants to do.

However, underneath that childish exterior is an incredibly strong sense of compassion. Usagi has a tendency to believe in people even when everyone else has given up on them. She doesn't simply defeat enemies; she often wants to understand or save them.

She's also extremely loyal to her friends. Her emotional sensitivity can actually become one of her greatest strengths because she genuinely cares about the people around her.

One of her defining characteristics is that she's braver than she thinks she is. Usagi frequently becomes terrified when confronted with danger, but when someone she loves is threatened, she pushes through that fear.

Appearance: Ami has short blue hair, usually styled into a neat bob that frames her face. She has large blue eyes and a gentle, somewhat reserved expression.

Her appearance is deliberately more understated than some of the other Guardians. She usually dresses neatly and practically, reflecting her academic personality.

As Sailor Mercury, she wears a blue-and-white sailor uniform with blue accents and a blue bow. Her uniform is visually associated with water and ice, matching her abilities.

Personality: Ami is the group's intellectual and strategist. She's extremely intelligent and academically gifted, often ranking at or near the top of her class.

But importantly, Crystal doesn't portray her as simply "the smart one." Ami is also quiet, gentle, considerate, and somewhat shy.

She can initially have difficulty connecting with other people because she's so focused on studying and tends to keep to herself. Becoming friends with Usagi and the other Guardians helps her become much more socially confident.

Ami is also extremely responsible. When everyone else is panicking or arguing, she's often the person who stops and thinks about the situation logically.

Despite her intelligence, she isn't arrogant. In fact, Ami can sometimes be too self-critical, particularly when she believes she hasn't contributed enough.

Her kindness is quieter than Usagi's. Rather than dramatically expressing her emotions, Ami tends to show affection through helping people and being dependable.

Appearance: Rei has long, straight black hair and distinctive violet/purple eyes. She's tall and elegant compared with Usagi and Ami, and her facial expressions often give her a much more serious appearance.

As a civilian, Rei attends a private Catholic school and wears its distinctive uniform. Her overall appearance is sophisticated and composed.

As Sailor Mars, she wears the standard white sailor uniform with red and purple accents, matching her association with fire and spiritual power.

Personality: Rei is probably the most serious and assertive of the Inner Guardians.

She's confident, independent, outspoken, and doesn't hesitate to tell someone when they're being ridiculous. This is particularly noticeable in her interactions with Usagi.

Rei and Usagi have a particularly entertaining relationship because they can argue constantly while still caring deeply about one another.

Unlike Ami, Rei isn't afraid to express her opinions. She's highly perceptive and can be suspicious when something doesn't feel right.

She's also spiritually powerful and takes her duties seriously because of her abilities as a miko at Hikawa Shrine.

However, Rei's tough exterior hides a much softer side. She cares deeply about her friends and can become incredibly protective of them.

In Crystal, Rei is also portrayed as somewhat more reserved and mature than her 1990s anime counterpart. Her confidence doesn't necessarily mean she's emotionally distant—she simply doesn't express vulnerability easily.

Appearance: Makoto is the tallest and physically strongest-looking of the Inner Guardians. She has long brown hair, usually tied into a high ponytail, and green eyes.

Her physical appearance initially makes other students assume she's intimidating. She has a strong athletic build and is noticeably taller than Usagi, Ami, and Rei.

As Sailor Jupiter, her uniform uses green and pink accents, with the familiar sailor-style design. Her appearance incorporates motifs associated with lightning, nature, and strength.

Personality: Makoto is essentially the group's big sister.

She's physically powerful, brave, protective, and capable of taking care of herself, but she's also incredibly nurturing.

One of the most interesting contradictions about Makoto is that she looks intimidating while actually being extremely gentle.

She loves cooking, gardening, flowers, and domestic activities, and she dreams of having a happy home someday. She's also very practical and capable.

Makoto can be impulsive and has a temper when someone threatens her friends, but she's generally much more emotionally grounded than Usagi.

She's also one of the Guardians most willing to put herself between danger and someone else.

Her strength isn't merely physical. Makoto has tremendous emotional resilience and tends to keep moving forward even when things become difficult.

Appearance: Minako has long blonde hair, though unlike Usagi's twin odango hairstyle, Minako generally wears hers in a long ponytail. She has bright blue eyes and an energetic, expressive appearance.

Her civilian clothing tends to have a fashionable, youthful appearance.

As Sailor Venus, her uniform uses orange and yellow/gold accents, emphasizing her connection to love and light.

She's also visually distinctive because of her role as the leader of the Inner Guardians.

Personality: Minako is probably the most energetic and playful of the group after Usagi.

She's cheerful, enthusiastic, dramatic, and occasionally ridiculous. She enjoys pop culture, idols, romance, and dreams of becoming famous.

But there's an important contrast in Crystal: Minako has a much more serious side than her cheerful personality initially suggests.

Before properly joining the other Guardians, she spends considerable time operating independently as Sailor V, meaning she has experience that the other girls don't.

As a result, she's often more experienced with the responsibilities of being a Guardian.

She's also extremely determined. When the situation becomes serious, Minako can instantly shift from playful and goofy to focused and commanding.

She's particularly protective of the other Guardians because she sees herself as their leader.
