Patrick “Pat” Dugan began his heroic career during World War II, when he aided a young Sylvester Pemberton in stopping a group of Nazi spies. From that day forward, Dugan became the costumed hero Stripesy, serving as the unlikely adult sidekick to the teenage Star-Spangled Kid. Together, they formed a unique and effective duo — partners in the fight against injustice who defied convention. Their adventures took them through countless missions as part of both the Seven Soldiers of Victory and the All-Star Squadron, where their bravery and teamwork earned them lasting respect among the heroic community.

In October 1948, during a battle with the cosmic entity Nebula Man, the Seven Soldiers were scattered through time. Dugan was cast back to ancient Egypt, enslaved until the Justice League and Justice Society of America eventually rescued and returned the team to the present. Though only a week had passed for him, Pat found himself over forty years in the future, a man displaced from his own time. Looking to start anew, he settled in Las Vegas, where he met and married Maggie Shaw. Their marriage was short-lived, however, and Pat was left to raise their son Michael alone. To make matters worse, his mechanical patents were stolen by Arthur Pemberton, a relative of his old partner Sylvester. In time, the two reconciled after Sylvester recovered the stolen rights, and Dugan became involved with Infinity, Inc., though tragedy struck when Sylvester — now known as Skyman — was killed in battle against the Injustice Society.

Seeking stability, Dugan eventually remarried, this time to Barbara Whitmore, and the couple settled in Blue Valley. His stepdaughter, Courtney Whitmore, later discovered Sylvester’s Cosmic Converter Belt hidden among Pat’s old belongings and learned the truth about his past as Stripesy. Eager to rebel and make a name for herself, Courtney adopted the identity of the new Star-Spangled Kid. Pat, both proud and protective, responded by constructing a massive suit of mechanized armor — the S.T.R.I.P.E. armor (Special Tactics Robotic Integrated Power Enhancer) — to accompany and safeguard her in battle.

Over time, Pat transitioned into a support role for the Justice Society of America, serving as both a mechanic and engineer. He designed the JSA’s aircraft, the Steel Eagle, and became a reliable figure behind the scenes while still joining the team on select missions. Though he occasionally dons the armor again to fight alongside Stargirl, Dugan’s life is now defined by family and mentorship — balancing heroism with fatherhood, guiding Courtney and Mike, and caring for his infant daughter, Patricia, all while ensuring that the legacy of heroism he helped build continues into the next generation.

Appearance: S.T.R.I.P.E. has a massive, heavily built metallic body composed of smooth, reflective armor plating with a polished steel-blue finish. His entire frame is sculpted with exaggerated mechanical musculature — broad, rounded shoulders leading into reinforced cylindrical arms that taper into large, articulated gauntlets. The plating catches light in strong highlights, with gold and yellow tones reflecting along the curves of his limbs and torso. His chest is wide and domed, with a circular emblem at the center featuring a stylized “S” insignia outlined in dark blue. Around his waist, segmented armor plates overlap in tight mechanical ridges, while the abdomen shows more defined paneling that flexes with movement. His legs are thick and powerful, the joints reinforced with visible bolts and hydraulic seams that give them an industrial strength. His head is streamlined, metallic, and helmet-like, featuring a smooth faceplate with minimal contouring. Two circular lenses serve as eyes, glowing faintly from within, and the surface of the head bears additional small circular details resembling sensor nodes.

Personality: Pat Dugan is a grounded, dependable man with the heart of an engineer and the soul of a protector. Decades of experience have given him patience, humility, and a quiet strength that commands respect without ever demanding it. He values teamwork and family above all, often putting the safety and growth of others before his own glory. Though he’s seen the cost of heroism, his optimism endures — the kind that’s forged through hardship rather than naïveté. He has a fatherly warmth and a dry sense of humor, balancing practicality with compassion. Whether he’s fixing a jet, mentoring a young hero, or standing in armor beside those he cares about, Pat carries himself with steady confidence.

Pat Dugan possesses a practical set of abilities that reflect his years of experience both as a mechanic and a hero. Though never superhuman, he has always maintained peak physical condition, especially during his years as Stripesy, when his strength and endurance were formidable for a man without powers. His greatest talent, however, lies in his mechanical genius. Pat is a gifted engineer and inventor, responsible for designing and constructing numerous advanced vehicles and devices, including Sylvester Pemberton’s Star-Rocket Racer, the Justice Society of America’s Steel Eagle, and his own powerful S.T.R.I.P.E. armor.

The S.T.R.I.P.E. suit is a highly advanced piece of technology that grants Pat enhanced capabilities in battle. It allows him to fly and provides superhuman strength and durability, protecting him from harm while greatly augmenting his combat effectiveness. The armor also contains an array of built-in gadgets and weapon systems designed for versatility in any situation, making it one of the most reliable support tools among modern heroes.

In the past, Pat relied on the Star-Rocket Racer, a flying car he designed in the 1940s that became one of his signature inventions. While he still maintains a fondness for the vehicle, in the present day he typically relies on his S.T.R.I.P.E. armor for transportation and defense
