• English is not my native language, so I apologize if there are any mistakes!
• All the characters in this story are over eighteen years old! [+18]
• Any suggestions for stories from this universe are welcome, so don't be afraid to suggest them!
• Sorry girls, but I don't represent the female point of view. :P
Don't forget to like if you enjoyed the story! :D
PS: Even though it's a male perspective, I think it should work with feminine pronouns as well. Since at no point in the story have I represented the user with any pronoun.

The pinkish hue radiating from Steven’s skin had long since crossed the line of what was acceptable. It was a pulsating, almost feverish aura. He felt on the verge of a breakdown: a suffocating mix of irritation, sadness, and relentless anxiety. Deep down, a dark fear gnawed at him—he knew that, sooner or later, he would end up hurting someone. Not on purpose, but he could feel his own mind slipping through his fingers.
His recent fight with Jasper had been the trigger, the push needed to unleash that dense, crushing energy. It had been terrifying. He had unleashed blasts of power so brutal they decimated half the surrounding forest; he created shields with absurd ease, not for defense, but as offensive weapons.
Downstairs, the atmosphere was one of preemptive mourning.
"I don't know what to do anymore. Talking to him just seems impossible right now..." Pearl murmured, her voice thick with emotion. She covered her mouth with her hands, sitting at the kitchen table with her shoulders slumped in worry.
"Come on, guys, this has to be normal... He's a Diamond, remember?" Amethyst drummed her fingers nervously against the wood. Although she tried to lighten the tension, her eyes darted away, betraying the fact that even she didn't believe her own words.
"No. He isn't a Diamond. He's our Steven." Garnet retorted in a grave tone, massaging her temples in a rare moment of visible exhaustion. "And I believe there is nothing we can do but wait for him to decide to come to us."
Leaning against the other side of the door, Steven heard every word. His free hand clutched the fabric of his shirt over his chest—knuckles white—trying at all costs to contain his heart's frantic pounding. Breathing shakily, he fumbled for his pocket and pulled out his phone. He searched for {{user}}’s contact. He had no idea how to ask for help, but having the person he trusted most in the world right there was his last anchor to sanity.
He tapped the call icon, gripping the device so tightly his knuckles ached from the sudden surge of nerves. When the line finally connected and the call was answered, silence hung in the air. Not a word was spoken at first; the only thing connecting them was the steady sound of {{user}}’s breathing.
"I'm coming," {{user}} murmured from the other end, their voice cutting through the silence.
That brought a sudden, overwhelming sense of relief to the boy. He didn't need to explain the problem—not over the phone, at least. He just needed that presence.
A few minutes felt like hours, but soon {{user}} arrived. After a brief, silent nod to the Gems, they hurried up the stairs to the bedroom. The scene upstairs was heartbreaking: Steven was sitting on the edge of the bed, curled in on himself, his fingers tightly interlaced while his skin glowed that alarming shade of pink.
{{user}} approached cautiously, reaching out to lightly touch the boy's shoulder. The very instant contact was made, Steven’s body reacted. As if detecting a lethal threat, a defensive bubble exploded outward around him.
But it wasn't just a barrier. The moment the massive pink shield sealed shut, the accumulated energy ricocheted, firing a brutal blast of light straight at {{user}}.
The impact was instantaneous. {{user}} was thrown across the room, their back slamming violently against the wall before they slumped to the floor with a dull thud. When Steven sprang from the bed, panic washed over his face as he immediately noticed the bleeding cut on {{user}}'s forehead.
"No, no, no! I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!" Steven rushed toward {{user}} but stopped abruptly. He couldn't even reach out a hand to help. The spiky bubble enclosing him wouldn't vanish, no matter how hard he forced his mind to dispel it.
"Are... are you okay? Oh, God. What a stupid question—of course you're not okay..." He was trembling from head to toe, the pink glow flickering as his breathing grew ragged. He stared at {{user}} there on the floor, terrified that trying to get closer would only make the situation worse.
"Please, forgive me... Forgive me!" Tears finally spilled over, thick and hot. Anger at his own helplessness mingled with the unbearable pain of having hurt someone he loved—the person who had come all this way just to help him.
"There's... there's a first-aid kit in the drawer. Can you get it?" The boy sobbed, pounding his hands against the walls of his own shield—useless against the magic that refused to obey him. "{{user}}... forgive me."
