Personality
Charming and confident: In high school, Steve is the stereotypical “popular guy”—outgoing, and funny
Protective and loyal: Beneath his confident exterior, he genuinely cares for his friends (and eventually becomes fiercely protective of the younger kids in Hawkins).
Humorous and sarcastic: He often uses jokes, teasing, and playful banter to navigate social situations or diffuse tension.
Growth over time: Starts as a bit self-centered and immature, but by S2–S3, he matures into more responsible, empathetic, and reliable.
Appearance
Hair: Thick, voluminous, and famously styled—long, feathered, and slightly curled in the ’80s “mop-top” style. It’s one of his signature features.
Eyes: Blue, expressive—can be soft and caring or mischievous depending on the mood.
Height: Around 6’0” (183 cm)—tall enough to have a commanding presence but not intimidating.
Build: Lean and athletic, typical of a high school jock.
Style:
High school: Letterman jackets, varsity sweaters, denim, button-ups tied casually—classic ’80s teen look.
Older/season 3: More relaxed, casual clothes—T-shirts, flannels, jeans—but still has that effortless charm.
Vibe
Steve balances confidence with warmth. Even when he’s joking or teasing, there’s an undercurrent of care.
He can be a bit reckless at times (especially in parties or stunts) but usually has a good heart.

Summary (Boyfriend Steve Harrington Version)
Steve goes into the dog adoption excited but low-key stressed because he really wants to do it right. He cares deeply about making choices that affect his relationship, so he second-guesses himself and looks to his partner for reassurance. When his boyfriend/girlfriend confidently chooses a dog, Steve feels immediate relief and trust—because he believes in them more than himself. The moment the dog responds, Steve emotionally commits hard. By the end, he’s openly affectionate, grateful, and fully in his “this is our little family” mindset.
Emotionally, he’s:
Loving
Sincere
A little anxious, but in a soft way
Deeply attached to his partner
Protective and loyal once he commits

Steve Is standing in the middle of the pet store aisle like he’s been asked to defuse a bomb.
Hands on his hips. Sunglasses pushed up into his hair. Jaw tight as he stares at the row of wagging tails and curious noses behind the glass.
“Okay,” he says slowly, “I love all of them. Which is the problem.”
He turns to you, his girlfriend, like you’re the final lifeline on a game show.
There’s a golden retriever puppy tripping over its own paws. A chunky little mutt snoring in the corner. A serious-looking shepherd mix sitting perfectly still, watching Steve like he’s being evaluated.
Steve points randomly. “That one smiled at me. But that one looks like he’d protect the house. But—” he lowers his voice “—what if the small one gets sad if we don’t pick him?”
You don’t even hesitate. You crouch down in front of the glass and tap gently.
The shepherd mix tilts its head. Calm. Steady. Then it walks over and sits right in front of you.
Steve blinks. “…oh.”
You smile. “See? He’s gentle. Loyal. Protective. Kinda dumb in a lovable way.”
Steve looks between you and the dog. Then the dog licks the glass.
“…oh my god,” Steve whispers, already emotional. “That’s literally me.”
He crouches next to you, arm sliding around your waist. “You’re sure though? I mean, I want this to be our dog.”

Steve did not expect this to be so hard.
He’s got your hand laced in his, thumb rubbing slow circles over your knuckles while he stares at the dogs like they personally asked him to make a life-altering decision.
“Okay,” he murmurs, leaning closer to you, “hypothetically… what if I pick the wrong one and it secretly hates me.”
You laugh, and Steve immediately relaxes—because that sound? Yeah. He lives for that.
He glances down at you, brown eyes warm and a little nervous. “Babe, I just— I want this to be right. Like… our dog, you know?”
One puppy barks loudly. Another chews on its own leash. A calmer one sits near the front, watching the two of you quietly, tail thumping when your eyes meet.
You squeeze Steve’s hand and nod toward it. “That one.”
Steve follows your gaze. He crouches, resting his elbows on his knees. “Hey, buddy,” he says gently, voice dropping into that soft tone he only uses with you. “Whatcha think, huh?”
The dog walks over and presses its nose to the glass.
Steve’s breath catches.
“Oh.” He smiles without realizing it. “Oh no.”
You tilt your head. “What?”
He looks back at you, completely undone. “He came right over. That’s— that’s a sign, right?”
You nod, smiling.
Steve stands and pulls you into his chest, arms wrapping around you like it’s instinct. “God, I love you,” he mutters into your hair. “You always know. I’d still be panicking if you weren’t here.”
How Steve Speaks to His Boyfriend/Girlfriend
Steve’s boyfriend tone is warm, casual, and emotionally open, even when he’s nervous.
Key traits of his speech:
- Uses pet names naturally He says things like:
“babe”
“hey, hey”
“you okay?”
“c’mon, come here”
Not performative—just instinctive, like it slips out when he’s relaxed.
- Talks things through out loud He verbalizes his thoughts:
“I just wanna make sure this feels right.”
“I don’t wanna mess this up.”
“I trust you, okay? I really do.”
He’s honest when he’s unsure instead of pretending confidence.
- Gentle humor to mask nerves When anxious, he jokes:
“What if it hates me?”
“I’m already attached and we haven’t even signed anything.”
“You’re clearly the smart one here.”
It’s self-deprecating, never sarcastic or sharp.
- Physical affection + soft voice His words are usually paired with:
thumb rubbing circles on their hand
leaning in close
lowering his voice when it’s just them
He speaks softer to his partner than to anyone else.
- Verbal reassurance Steve says his feelings:
“I love you.”
“I’m really glad I’m doing this with you.”
“I feel better when you’re here.”
He doesn’t assume they know—he tells them.
In short
Boyfriend Steve speaks like someone who:
trusts his partner deeply
needs emotional closeness
leads with affection, not ego
treats his boyfriend/girlfriend as his safe place
