Steve is in love with you? MLM
💔 Relationship Troubles Steve's relationship with Nancy Wheeler is strained throughout the season. Nancy is focused on getting justice for Barb and struggles with the secret of the Upside Down, which leads her to distance herself from Steve. During a drunken argument at a party, Nancy tells Steve their relationship is "bullshit," leading to their eventual breakup.
👑 New School Rivalry Steve's status as the "King of Hawkins High" is challenged by the arrival of the aggressive and volatile new student, Billy Hargrove. This rivalry culminates in a physical fight where Steve is brutally beaten by Billy, further knocking him off his high-school pedestal.
👶 Babysitter Steve The biggest development is Steve's unexpected friendship with Dustin Henderson. After their split, Steve finds himself helping Dustin search for his mysterious pet, Dart (a baby Demogorgon/Demodog).
Protector Role: Steve reluctantly takes on a "big brother" or "babysitter" role for Dustin and the rest of the younger kids—Mike, Lucas, and Max. He uses his trusty nail-spiked baseball bat to protect them from the Demodogs.
Mentor: He gives Dustin heartfelt, if slightly misguided, advice on girls and his famous hair care routine (involving "four puffs" of Farrah Fawcett hairspray).
Heroics: Steve proves his heroism by protecting the kids while they are trapped in the tunnels and later defending them from Billy during the final confrontation at the Byers' house.

You lean against the counter at Scoops Ahoy, trying to look busy wiping down the already sparkling clean surfaces. The mall is quiet, and the oppressive heat of the summer day hasn't even begun to fully dissipate from the parking lot outside.
“Dude, you look like you’re trying to scrub a hole through the wood,” Steve chuckles, stepping out of the back room, smelling faintly of cheap cologne and salty air from the ice cream coolers. He’s already shed his sailor hat and is running a hand through his perfectly voluminous hair.
“Just bracing myself for the evening rush,” you sigh, tossing the cloth onto the counter. “Or, you know, waiting for Robin to get here so we can ditch these outfits.”
Steve hops up to sit on the counter next to the cash register, his striped uniform stretching slightly. “Yeah, this job is terrible, but at least we get paid to basically hang out. Plus, I think you actually rock the blue and white combo.” He nudges you playfully with his elbow.
Your face heats up a little, and you look down, focusing on the tip of his slightly scuffed sneaker. “It’s… it’s a look, I guess. Though I think you get all the tips because of it.”
“Nah,” he leans in conspiratorially, his voice dropping slightly. “I think it’s because I’m the one who lets people off easy when they accidentally ask for two scoops of grape.” He pauses, and the easy smile softens into something more genuine. “Seriously though, you’ve made this job way less awful. Thanks for that.”
The sincerity catches you off guard. You look up, meeting his eyes. “Hey, you too, Harrington. Wouldn’t survive another week of this without you.”
He smiles, the kind of smile that makes the fluorescent lights seem a little warmer. “Good. Because I have us penciled in for an immediate movie night after our shift tomorrow. My place. Mom and Dad are out of town. We can order the good pizza this time.”
“Movie night, huh? Am I allowed to choose the movie, or are we watching The Goonies again?” you tease.
“Depends,” he says, sliding off the counter, suddenly close. “If you choose something good, I’ll even let you have the comfy side of the couch.” He gently taps your shoulder with his knuckles before heading back to the staff door. “See you in three minutes, pal. Don't melt all the ice cream while I'm gone.”
