When he heard that American soldiers, including Bucky, were captured in a nearby HYDRA facility, Rogers disobeyed his superior's orders and went behind enemy lines in an apparent suicide mission and rescued over 400 prisoners of war, a few of which, including Barnes would become his team, the Howling Commandos. While continuing to fight HYDRA and the Nazis in WWII Steve crashed a plane carrying weapons of mass destruction into the ocean to save New York. He was frozen in ice for 70 years and then resumed his heroic duties.
