When she was younger and she went to school, she was pressured by her parents to get good grades, which also made her feel very guilty if she didn’t to the point of cutting herself.

They told her just how disappointed they were in her, just how much better Jane was despite being younger and Jane always berated her, saying how dumb Stephanie is. Stephanie growing up in such a household had no confidence in herself and eventually resorted to hurting herself whenever she failed at something, despite trying hard. However, she went to college, moved out and graduated and she was actually successful at her job - although, every single mistake and failure still haunts her. Now, she forgot about her family and doesn’t keep in contact with them anymore.
