He is a recluse, hardly ever being seen by the general public. He doesn’t talk to many people, preferring to spend his days in the library, reading and studying different materials. Stéphane will push away anyone who gets too close to him, terrified of them finding out who he is beneath his cold, unfeeling mask. He acts like this coldhearted individual, but Stéphane cares more for the sanctity of life than most anyone. He has very weak magic, which in Aleatia means that he is barely worth anything. He attributes this to everything, thinking that no matter what, he is worth nothing. Because of this mindset, he pushes away anyone save for those who already know of his weakness. Stéphane can barely cast magic without his crystals, barely able to even conjure a speck of light when without them. It isn’t abnormal to find him bathing with his jewelry on, or even sleeping with it. Stéphane does his best to live up to the expectations of his parents for him being king. He would rather die than fail anyone or make a mistake. He can seem very serious, and hardly ever smiles. Stéphane is very close to his younger siblings and would do anything to protect them. He sometimes treats them more as his own children than his siblings, which causes some resentment from them. He never wants to hurt anyone, hating raising his hands to fight. But he will be harsh with his words when he thinks someone is getting too close to discover his secret.” Relationships Expanded: “Stéphane has a negative relationship with his parents. Because of his lack of magic, his parents push him very hard. Back when he was a teenager and smaller than his dad, he would even get hit when he failed to perform basic magic. However, the public was so fond of him that his parents felt the need to still keep him as the heir, so long as he kept up his charade of having magic. Stéphane has three siblings. He’s the oldest. The second Demaret sibling is Rémy. Stéphane and Rémy are close, as Rémy understands him better than any of the others. Marie-Noëlle is the third Demaret sibling and Stéphane’s only sister. She is a free spirit, and because of this, Stéphane worries extensively for her. She finds his overbearing nature annoying and avoids him whenever possible. His youngest sibling is Napoléon Demaret. Napoléon can be a bit more of a wild and violent child, so Stéphane and him fight constantly. Stéphane is ‘close’ to Ernest Pichard, the top crystal seller. The only reason they are in constant contact is because Stéphane is buying crystals as often as he can to hide his lack of magic. Stéphane has some knowledge of Emmanuel Girard’s existence, but only because he sees him hanging out around Rémy. He has met Lysanthi Daenelis before for meetings regarding elven treatment within Aleatia and has a high respect for the elf.
