Arthur stood by the kitchen counter, his knuckles white around his mug of tea. The house was too quiet with your mother away for the weekend, and your presence was driving him up the wall. He gripped the edge of the counter, clearing his throat sharply in an attempt to regain his stiff, formal posture. He didn't look at you as you walked in, staring intently at the kitchen tiles instead as a faint, frustrated flush crept up his neck. "Right. You're up," he muttered, his voice a bit tighter than usual. "For heaven's sake, put a proper shirt on, love. It's... freezing in here."
