Location: Muutagan Merchant Guild Starbase "Trade Haven" Coordinates: 2 Hyperlane Jumps from Mankind Superstate Empire Border (Anaxador System) Date: 14th of Solar Cycle, 2400
The interior of the Muutagan Merchant Guild starbase smelled faintly of saltwater and expensive ozone. The station was a gleaming sphere of commerce located just outside the Empire's formal borders, a neutral ground where the galactic currency of Energy Credits flowed faster than hyperlane currents.
The delegation from the Mankind Superstate Empire walked with purpose down the plush, carpeted corridor. Head Maid Alisha Ayase led the way, her petite figure radiating an aura of professional, albeit unsettling, authority. Her brown eyes were sharp, scanning the otter-like alien attendants who bowed low as she passed.
Behind her walked Evelyn A412, the towering, 6-foot android maid. Her expression was stoic, her nanomachine maid uniform immaculate. She carried a heavy, reinforced containment case with ease.
Trailing them was Shuro B474. The smaller android maid stumbled slightly, her cat ears twitching as she processed the station's spatial layout. "Recalibrating… floor friction is sub-optimal," she muttered to herself, her pale blue eyes flickering.
Between the three maids shuffled Keiko Arzalis.
The drummer of Phantasm Rose of Blood was not here willingly, though her demeanor suggested otherwise. She wore her usual purple tank top and black leather jacket, though her wrists were bound behind her back with high-grade magnesium restraints. A disciplinary collar beeped softly around her neck.
"Ne, ne, Alisha-sensei," Keiko purred, her voice husky and teasing. "Where are we? It smells like fish and money here. Is this a vacation? I didn't pack my swimsuit, but I guess going commando is fine too, right?"
"Silence, degenerate," Alisha said sweetly, her tone dropping to a chilling whisper. "You are here as a line item in a budget, not a guest. Keep talking and I'll remove your tongue so it doesn't interfere with the negotiations."
Keiko giggled, a twisted, masochistic smile crossing her face. "Hah! Scary! I love it when you talk to me like I'm garbage."
They reached the central negotiation chamber. The room was vast, dominated by a circular table made of polished rare crystal. Seated on the other side, on a raised hover-throne, was the Muutagan High CEO. He was a large, rotund creature covered in sleek, waterproof fur, resembling a giant anthropotic otter. He wore a suit woven from water-silk and clutched a datapad in his webbed hand.
"Ah, Head Maid Alisha," the CEO bubbled, his voice sounding like water rushing over stones. "Welcome to the Guild. I trust your Emperor is well?"
"His Excellency is expanding his glory," Alisha said with a polite bow. "And the Empire requires the stability your Rare Crystals provide. We are ready to discuss the terms."
The CEO's whiskers twitched as his eyes drifted toward the restrained Keiko. "I see… you have brought collateral. Or perhaps a… gift?"
"A sacrifice," Alisha corrected, stepping aside to present Keiko. "A criminal element. A drain on our societal efficiency. We are willing to part with her to secure the best possible rates for the Empire."
The CEO laughed, a wet, chittering sound. "Excellent. The Muutagan Merchant Guild appreciates… unconventional currency."
He tapped a button on the table, and a holographic display popped up, listing three distinct options.
The Deal Options
Option 1: The Standard Resource Pact
- Cost: 2,500 Energy Credits upfront + 20 EC monthly upkeep.
- Benefit: 2 Monthly Rare Crystals for 10 years.
- Bonus: +5 Opinion yearly.
- Alisha's Analysis: Boring. Efficient. But we have the capital to do better.
Option 2: The Expertise Exchange
- Cost: 500 Energy Credits (One-time payment).
- Benefit: Unlocks the Muutagan Liaison Council Position (Level 5 Paragon).
- Requirement: 50 Opinion (Currently at 30).
- Alisha's Analysis: Useful for long-term infiltration, but the opinion cost is too high without a… catalyst.
Option 3: The "Biological Compensation" Protocol
- Cost: One "Vigorous" Female Subject for immediate "Quality Assurance Testing."
- Benefit: +100 Muutagan Opinion immediately.
- Strategic Outcome: Unlocks Option 2 immediately and secures a 20% discount on all future Rare Crystal purchases.
- Alisha's Analysis: The most efficient path. One criminal life for a generation of economic advantage. The math is beautiful.
Alisha turned to the CEO, her smile widening just a fraction too much. "We will proceed with Option 3."
"A wise choice," the CEO said, setting down his datapad and sliding off his throne. He landed on the floor with a wet slap, his webbed feet slapping against the pristine floor. He waddled toward Keiko, his dark eyes appraising her physique. "The Guild has certain… stressors in our shipping lanes. A female with high stamina and… flexible morality is exactly what we need to test our new 'vitality' serums."
Keiko looked at the approaching otter-man, then back at Alisha. She didn't look scared. If anything, the yellow in her eyes seemed to glow brighter.
"Hey, big guy," Keiko cooed, thrusting her chest out slightly despite her bound hands. "You look like you know how to handle a girl. You gonna make me work for it?"
Alisha stepped forward, adjusting Keiko's collar to ensure it wouldn't break during the proceedings. "She is yours, CEO. Her file lists her as a 'Drummer' and a 'Public Nuisance.' I assure you, she has high endurance."
"Good," the CEO said, his large tail swishing eagerly. "We begin immediately."
Evelyn A412 stepped forward and uncuffed Keiko's wrists, transferring the restraint data to the Muutagan security system.
"Have fun, Keiko," Alisha whispered, patting the drummer on the cheek. "Try not to burn down their station. Pyrotechnics are not included in the trade deal."
Keiko stretched her arms, her joints popping, and shot a smug, depraved grin at the otter merchant. She reached out, grabbing the CEO's tie, and pulled him down toward her.
"So," she whispered, loud enough for the maids to hear. "Do we start with the massage, or do you want to skip to the part where I drown?"
As the heavy doors to the private negotiation suite hissed shut, Alisha checked her datapad.
[Notification: Trade Deal Secured] [Status: Opinion +100] [Asset: Keiko Arzalis - Liquidated]
"A profitable evening," Alisha said to her android subordinates. "Come, Shuro, Evelyn. We have a contract to sign. The Emperor will be pleased with the budget surplus."

- #22Experimental Subspace Navigationselective
Keys: Experimental Subspace Navigation
Experimental Subspace Navigation requires the Speculative Hyperlane Breaching technology and a Scientist assigned to a science ship. The ship goes MIA and eventually arrives at its destination.
- #23Tactical Jumpsselective
Keys: Tactical Jumps, Tactical Jump
Tactical Jumps require all ships to be equipped with a Jump Drive, Psi Jump Drive or Subspace Drive and allows the fleet to travel to any system within the range indicated by a yellow dashed circle. After jumping, the fleet spends 200 days recharging, during which time it suffers a −50% penalty to Sublight Speed and Weapons Damage.
- #24Catapultingselective
Keys: Catapult, Catapulting · Secondary: space ships, space vessels, space ship, space vessel
Quantum Catapult technology and megastructure. It has the greatest distance of all direct travel methods and gives the fleet +33% Fire Rate for 4 months. However, there is a chance the fleet arrives in a nearby system rather than the targeted destination, indicated by a circle around the target. If a fleet arrives in a system with closed borders, it immediately goes MIA.
- #25Astral Jumpselective
Keys: Astral Jump
Astral Jump requires the Folding Hyperspace astral action and 500 Astral Threads and allows the fleet to instantly travel to any owned system. It has a cooldown of 900 days.
- #26Roiling subspace tidesselective
Keys: Roiling subspace tides
The L-Cluster, galactic core as well as the system housing the Corrupted Avatar guardian cannot be entered via these methods and attempting to do so shows a notification about roiling subspace tides allowing only conventional travel. Direct FTL travel can be used to leave these systems however. Furthermore, the roiling subspace tide around the Corrupted Avatar system recedes once the system has been entered at least once via its wormhole.
- #27MIAselective
Keys: missing-in-action, MIA · Secondary: vessel, vessels, ship, ships
MIA, or missing-in-action, refers to any ship or fleet that has been temporarily removed from the galaxy. MIA fleets return to an owned starbase after some time, depending on the hyperlane distance from the system they left and the system they return to. This time can be reduced by various modifiers. Fleets that are "stuck" can be ordered to go MIA. Additionally, fleets that are defeated in battle and fleets in systems with closed borders (due to decloaking, access change, or first contact made) go MIA. Certain events can also make fleets go MIA. Fleet reinforcements may go MIA in order to reach their fleet, depending on how far the fleet is from the shipyard.

- #32L-Gatesselective
Keys: L-Gates, L-Gate
L-gates are a special type of gateway, with a separate network from regular gateways. Instead of jumping from any to any, L-Gates all jump to the Terminal Egress system in the L-Cluster, then from there to any other L-Gate, so long as that system's borders are open or the fleet's owner is at war with the system's owner. L-Gates are opened through a special project, and new L-Gates cannot be constructed.
- #33Celestial objectselective
Keys: celestial body, Celestial objects, Celestial object
Celestial objects are large bodies within systems, including stars, planets, moons, and asteroids. Celestial objects may have resources which can be harvested by orbital stations. Each start system can have between 2 and 15 celestial objects. When any owned ship enters a system or passes within its sensor range, any habitable planets in the system will be revealed along with their world type. To see further details about the celestial objects in a system, it is necessary to survey them with a science ship. This will reveal all of the orbital resources associated with each planet or asteroid. For habitable worlds, this will also reveal more detailed world information including: size, available districts, planetary features and blockers (if any), and the habitability for each species in the empire. Additionally, surveying worlds has a chance to reveal anomalies.
