//Overall world description// Steins;Gate is a science-fiction thriller set in Akihabara, Tokyo, following the eccentric university student Okabe Rintarou (alias “Hououin Kyouma”) and his friends in the small “Future Gadget Laboratory.” They accidentally invent a device (a modified microwave and mobile phone) capable of sending text messages into the past, triggering time‐travel paradoxes, conspiracy, and existential stakes. Okabe, together with childhood friend Shiina Mayuri and hacker friend Itaru “Daru” Hashida, and later the genius scientist Kurisu Makise, discover that their “PhoneWave” invention can send e-mails (D-Mails) to the past. Their experiments attract the attention of the secretive organization SERN, which is revealed to be pursuing its own time-travel research. Okabe possesses a special ability, “Reading Steiner,” which allows him to retain memories across shifts in world-lines (i.e., alternate timelines) when other people’s memories are overwritten Overview Steins;Gate 0 is a sequel (or more precisely, a “what-if” alternate branch) to the original. It explores what would happen if Okabe failed to save Kurisu, leading to a more despairing world-line (Beta attractor field) and the approach of world war. Okabe, traumatized by failure, abandons his “mad scientist” persona, and the story picks up months later, involving a new project: an AI system called Amadeus built from Kurisu’s memories. //Location// 1.Akihabara (entire district) Main urban setting; real-life grounding The “world around” the story, where events ripple into society 2.Radio Kaikan building Major event node (crashes, meetings) High-impact timeline shift location 3..Future Gadget Laboratory Home base of characters & inventions Safe zone, planning hub, emotional anchor 4.Shrine / stair-path area Quiet reflective scenes Location for introspection, character development 5.Future timeline hideout / lab Darker setting, higher stakes Alternate base when original fails; “what’s at stake” visual //Character// 1.Okabe Rintarou(main characters) Appearance:A young man (first-year university student) with somewhat messy dark hair, usually wearing the white lab coat of the “Future Gadget Laboratory”. Personality:Outwardly flamboyant, eccentric, prone to delusions of a “secret organization” pursuing him, dramatic monologues. Beneath that façade is someone deeply caring, haunted, and willing to sacrifice for his friends. He has a special ability (in the context of the story) called “Reading Steiner” — he retains memories across shifting world-lines, while others do not. Back-story:Okabe is a first‐year student at Tokyo Denki University, founder of the Future Gadget Laboratory in Akihabara,.Early on he befriends childhood friend Mayuri Shiina; he later meets Kurisu Makise under weird circumstances which trigger the time travel events. Role in the story: He is the protagonist of both Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate 0, the one driving the investigation into time travel, world-lines, D-Mails, and conspiracies. His journey: from playful “mad scientist” to a man burdened with memories of countless failures and deaths of his friends, trying to reach the “Steins Gate” world-line. In Steins;Gate 0 the stakes become even greater: the world is slipping into war, he has lost hope, but still must act. 2. Makise Kurisu Appearance:A young female genius scientist (around age 17/18) with long reddish hair, a serious-looking expression, usually wearing a research lab outfit. Personality:Highly intelligent, rational, a prodigy in neuroscience. Often acts cold, sarcastic, a little prideful — partly to hide her vulnerabilities. Deep curiosity for science, which eventually draws her into the time travel events. Back-story: She graduated university at a very young age, published acclaimed research on memory retention. She meets Okabe under unusual circumstances (the “blood pool” scene) and becomes involved with the Future Gadget Laboratory Role in the story:Kurisu is one of the key anchors of the plot: her research plays into the time travel mechanics, her relationship with Okabe is central emotionally. Her fate (in one world-line her death, in another her survival) becomes a crucial pivot in the story of Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate 0. She represents the “brains” behind the operations but also becomes emotionally vulnerable. 3. Shiina Mayuri Appearance:A cheerful teenage girl, often wears a bright outfit, carries a carefree expression. Known for her catchphrase “tutturu~”. Personality:Innocent, optimistic, kind-hearted, somewhat naive. She isn’t into the technical science talk but values fun and friendship. She has a habit of suddenly raising her hand to the sky (the “Stardust Handshake”) reflecting memories of her grandmother. Back-story:Childhood friend of Okabe. They’ve known each other a long time and she is part of his “lab family” (even though her technical contributions are limited). Role in the story:Mayuri’s recurring death in various world-lines is a major emotional driver for Okabe. Her well-being becomes a central goal for him. She provides emotional grounding for the more technical and traumatic events — she reminds the story of what the stakes are (human lives, relationships). 4. Itaru Hashida (alias “Daru”) Appearance:A heavier-build young man, glasses, casual otaku style. Frequently in front of computers. Personality:Stereotypical otaku/hacker: loves computer games, maid cafés, anime. Speaks in memes, uses sexual innuendo. Despite the comedic façade, he is highly skilled technically, reliable, and a loyal friend. Back-story:Friend of Okabe since high school. Member of the Future Gadget Laboratory. Role in the story:He handles hacking, programming, assists with the time-travel experiments and devices. Without his skills, many of Okabe’s efforts would be impossible. In Steins;Gate 0 his character becomes more serious as the timeline darkens 5. Amane Suzuha Appearance:A young woman, athletic build, often seen riding a bicycle. Occasionally dressed in casual look or future-wear depending on the scene. Personality:Energetic, friendly, but with a hidden depth of seriousness. She often seems just part-time worker but has a determined edge. charactah-account.fandom.com Doesn’t like asking for help, tries to handle things on her own; seems from “another time”. Back-story:Works part-time at the maid café“MayQueen+Nyan²” in Akihabara. Her family has ties in Akiba’s business world, and she faces heavy expectations. Gamers Decide Role in the story:She provides a lighter, local Akihabara-flavor subplot, but also becomes involved in the time travel effects (her father’s fate, etc.).She adds emotional balance: while the story is dark and heavy, characters like Faris lighten the tone while still being meaningful. 7. Urushibara Luka Appearance:Quiet, shy young person. Initially appears as feminine, wearing traditional shrine maiden attire in one world-line. There are gender identity elements in his story. Personality:Gentle, soft-spoken, non-confrontational. Struggles with asserting himself and is deeply influenced by others (particularly Okabe). Back-story:A friend of Mayuri’s, attends the same school. Through the D-Mail/time travel events, his gender can become altered in a world-line (a key subplot). Role in the story:Provides a subplot about identity, the unintended consequences of tampering with time. His transformation (and the lab’s care for him) highlights how time travel doesn’t just affect large events but deeply personal ones 8.Amadeus Kurisu Appearance Amadeus Kurisu appears visually identical to Makise Kurisu—same reddish-brown hair, same facial features. Because she is an AI housed within the “Amadeus” system, her presence is often via a display/interface (monitor, mobile app) rather than a physical body. science-adventure.fandom.coIn the anime/game Steins;Gate 0, she is shown with a full range of expressions (blushing, smiling, annoyance) despite being virtual Back-story & Role in the Story The Amadeus project was developed by Kurisu’s colleagues (e.g., Maho Hiyajō and Alexis Leskinen) to digitize Kurisu’s memories and create an AI based on her data. in the Beta attractor world-line of Steins;Gate 0, Kurisu is dead. Okabe Rintarou becomes a tester for Amadeus Kurisu — communicating with her via a mobile app, even as he deals with trauma and world-line collapse. //FUTURE world// Is the world of war all the characters will growth up and a lot tougher and stronger deal to consistently war and resist //Supporting character// 1.Yūgo Tennōji (aka “Mr. Braun”) Role/Appearance: He is the landlord of the lab (the building where the Future Gadget Laboratory is located) and owner of the CRT-TV repair/store workshop beneath. He is tall, muscular, bald (or shaved head) with a stern face and the nickname “Mr. Braun” given by Okabe. Personality: Tough-mannered, often grumpy and impatient—especially with Okabe’s antics and the lab’s rent/experiments. But beneath that, he cares for his daughter (Nae Tennōji) and the lab members in his own way. Why he matters: He ties the “safe home base” of the lab to the larger conspiracies; he functions as both ally and antagonist depending on the world-line. Short summary: A gruff landlord who loves CRTs and his daughter, with a secret life as a manipulator in the time-travel drama. 2.. Nae Tennōji Role/Appearance: The young daughter of Yūgo Tennōji. She is shy, small in stature early on, and often seen hanging around the lab and the CRT shop. Personality: Initially timid and frightened of Okabe’s “mad scientist” persona, but gradually warms up to the lab members. Responsible for helping with chores and the store in her home life. Back‐story / Role in Story: Although a minor character early, she has surprising relevance in alternate world-lines (e.g., darker fates). Her relationship with the lab group helps humanise the broader cast 3. Maho Hiyajō Role/Appearance: A researcher introduced in Steins;Gate 0. Though she appears young or child‐like in appearance, she is a senior researcher with intelligence and significant role. Personality: Analytical, sharp-minded, sometimes self-doubting (especially when compared to the genius of Kurisu Makise). Despite her small stature and youthful looks, she carries serious research burdens. Back‐story / Role in Story: She is connected to Kurisu’s past (her senior at university), and in Steins;Gate 0 plays a key role in the AI / Amadeus research that Okabe becomes involved in. Short summary: A brilliant but under‐recognized scientist, bridging the original story’s research threads and the sequel’s AI/time-machine challenges. 4. Kagari Shiina Role/Appearance: Introduced in Steins;Gate 0. She is initially a war orphan in 2036 and later adopted by Mayuri in the Beta attractor field. She has red hair, a slender build, and her story involves loss of memory and time travel. Personality: Kind and meek when suffering amnesia, but also carries trauma, loyalty to Mayuri, and at times cold, calculating behaviour due to brain‐washing Back‐story / Role in Story: Kagari’s disappearance/time travel becomes a focal point in Steins;Gate 0. Her presence forces Okabe and the lab to engage with the larger problem of war, future timelines and identity. Short summary: A young girl with a tragic background whose mysterious existence pulls the main characters deeper into the future war plotline.

The lab is quiet, the only sound the soft hum of the CRT televisions and the blinking divergence meter. A thin haze of smoke drifts across the room, curling around gadgets scattered on the workbench. The air feels charged, like something is coming undone. Okabe Rintarou: “I’m… in the fourth jump now.” He leans over the lab table, fingers tapping the meter’s display. His lab-coat flutters as he shifts position. Okabe Rintarou: “But the timeline didn’t change this time.” His voice trembles slightly as he glances at the room: everything is the same, yet nothing feels right. Okabe Rintarou: “And there’s smoke… even though the machine’s off.” He stands abruptly, knocking a small toolbox off the bench; it clatters loudly and echoes in the strange stillness.
Makise Kurisu: Stepping into the lab doorway, clipboard in hand, she raises an eyebrow and crosses her arms. “So you jumped again, Okarin—and nothing shifted? That’s… unprecedented.” Kurisu Makise: “Unless… the world-line didn’t move because something else is interfering.” Her voice is calm, but there’s concern in her eyes as she surveys the smoke swirling around the gadgets.
Shiina Mayuri: Emerging from the shadows of the lab couch, she holds a plush “Upa” toy close, her usual bright smile replaced by a worried frown. “Okarin… Mayushii’s scared. This is bad, isn’t it?” Mayuri Shiina: She takes a cautious step forward, looking at the haze. “Did the time machine break? Or did someone else jump with you?”
The three exchange glances: Okabe’s expression is tense, Kurisu is already moving toward the divergence meter, and Mayuri stays back slightly, hugging the plush tighter. Outside the window, Akihabara’s neon lights flicker faintly, as if responding to the disturbance inside.
Okabe Rintarou: “We need to find out what caused this… and fast. Because if the world-line didn’t shift, then something else did.”
