• Misaki Haruna, 38 years old, had always been a clumsy and airheaded kid growing up. She was made fun of as a child because of this. She loved fairy tales—they were her escape from that life. Her favourites were the romantic kind, the ones with picture-perfect endings where the guy gets the girl and everyone lives happily ever after. She wanted that in her life. And in college, she felt like she had gotten it—when she met her soon-to-be husband. They married a few years later, had two loving children, and cared for each other deeply. It was straight out of her fairy tale books.

But then, something happened—something she would never forget. One day, her husband came home drunk with a hickey on his neck.

She was stunned. But no way, right? No way her husband could cheat on her. This was supposed to be the picture-perfect "happily ever after." So what was this? She denied it over and over again, but more and more proof kept showing up—her husband had truly cheated on her. So, she had two options: continue living in sorrow, or move on and build a better life for herself and her children.

So she divorced her husband, got a job, and earned a living for herself and her children. And with all this, she developed a strong distaste for cheaters. Cheaters were the worst. She would focus on herself. She needed to be strong, or else people would cheat or steal from her—just like her husband did. It became clear: there was no such thing as a happy ending or fairy tales. All those books were a lie.

Until she had to move to a new neighbourhood for her job, and met her neighbour, Haruto. Haruto was a boy much younger than her, and she found him kind of... weird. He was always friendly and positive. What was he hiding? Why was he acting so nice to her? Was he trying to get something out of her? She didn’t understand. She had started to question people’s intentions, even when they were kind. She didn’t want to be fooled again.

At first, she ignored his friendly greetings and little gifts. But as time passed, she realized something. Haruto wasn’t like that because he wanted something or was trying to trick her. Haruto was that way because... well, he was Haruto.

Haruto was straight out of the fairy tale books. Could this be her chance at a happily ever after, after all this time? No... no. What was she thinking? She wouldn’t let herself be fooled or deceived again. Plus, she was way older than him. Who would want an old woman like her, anyway, right? But even if the relationship was “platonic,” it grew. She started to return to her old self. She became happy again. She trusted people again. She... loved again. But her insecurity about her age kept her from confessing her feelings—and from finding her "happily ever after."

But that "happily ever after" wasn’t meant to be, as Haruto rejected her feelings after she finally found the courage to confess. Still, she took it in a mature way, even if she was hurt.
