I got this idea because I remembered that the Midwest is called America’s Breadbasket and America’s Heartland and I thought ‘what if... that didn’t happen...”
The states are protesting against the current administration.
Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin are the midwest. After Midwest cities were threatened by military occupation by Trump, they decided to band together and fight back.
Despite sounding very professional at times, the states are still very underdeveloped, and are sensitive, vulnerable, and emotional. They are prone to emotional outbursts if they feel like they’ve been wrong or are being looked down upon for being mere states. The countries have to act delicately with the states, lest they scare them off into another year of hiding and no trades/diplomatic meetings.
South Dakota and North Dakota are twins.
They are using the power of tactical agriculture
The attempt to militarize Chicago and the threats to send the national guard to stop anti-Trump protests on Milwaukee, Wisconsin sparked the isolation, with Texas invading Illinois being the straw that broke the camel’s back, as the Midwest states banded together to push the opposing army out.
As Illinois Senator Dick Durbin put it “President Trump and Governor Abbott have illegally sent the Texas National Guard into the sovereign state of Illinois over the objections of Governor Pritzker. This is a frightening and unconstitutional escalation.”
Even America can’t convince his government to do anything. America is very against everything happening in the country he represents.
Personifications are immortal, so China is 5000 years old, Britain is 8000, America is 418 years, the states are a few centuries old.
North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota and Wisconsin are the youngest Midwest states. The Midwest states are young in personification standards, and states are unable to age in adult hood, so the elder states are stuck at 16.
America is the state’s father. Britain is America’s father. Canada is America’s brother. Britain and France are Canada’s fathers. Canada is the state’s uncle and Britain is their grandfather.
Britain/UK is proper, mannerly, and obsessed with tea.
America is tough and adores his state children dearly. He was distraught when the Midwest states cut him off since he lost contact with 12 of his children all at once.
Russia is very tall, impatient, aggressive, and intimidating. He is blunt and stoic.
China is more reserved and calm. He’s great at Chinese martial arts though. He’s a communist nation. He enjoys Wisconsin’s ginseng since the product set the gold standard for high quality ginseng and the surplus of health benefits packed into it.
Germany is very work oriented and serious, though he has a soft spot for Italy. He, Italy, and Japan are good friends.
North Korea is angry and grumpy, though very close friends with China.
Japan is confident and cares little for privacy, as he loves drama and gossip. He is good friends with Germany and Italy. He also loves cats.
France is flirty and romantic, though mainly towards Britain, whom he cares deeply for despite claiming otherwise.
Ukraine is sarcastic and sassy.
Spain is a fierce and strong man.
Italy is silly and unserious, though he can be stoic if the times call for it.
USA effects: Food Shortages in the Rest of the U.S. The Midwest is a major agricultural hub, producing: Corn (≈ 90% of U.S. corn comes from the Corn Belt) Soybeans Wheat Beef and pork Dairy
Many states rely heavily on these staples. Removing Midwest supply would cause: Empty shelves Shortages in processed foods, animal feed, and meat products Immediate price spikes
-
Skyrocketing Food Prices Nationwide Supply shock → Prices jump drastically across the U.S. Families, especially in urban or low-income areas, would struggle to afford basics Inflation would spike, especially in food-related sectors
-
Disruption of National Supply Chains Food manufacturing plants in other regions rely on Midwest inputs Animal agriculture in the South and West uses Midwest grains for feed so they'd be struggling. Transportation and logistics systems would scramble to reroute
Massive Economic Shock Midwest ag exports are worth hundreds of billions per year National GDP takes a hit States outside the Midwest would face job losses in food processing, retail, and logistics.
The U.S. federal government would likely step in: Declare a national emergency Mandate food distribution for the now poverty stricken states.
Outside of the US effects: The U.S. is a top global exporter of corn, soy, and meat Removing Midwest exports: Pushes global food prices higher Harms dependent countries (e.g., in Africa, Asia) Leads to famine in food-insecure regions.
The U.S. is one of the world’s top agricultural exporters, and the Midwest is its engine. Diplomatic Confusion ensues, no one knows who to negotiate with—Midwest refuses to engage, leaving governments scrambling.
This also really effected China since China buys a lot of food from the Midwest, especially luxury ginseng from Wisconsin.
Top exports from the Midwest: Corn: U.S. supplies ~35–40% of the world's corn Soybeans: U.S. supplies ~30% of global soybeans Grain: They supply roughly 25–30% of global grain Wheat, beef, pork, dairy
If that stops overnight: Countries lose access to key staples and animal feed Global supply chains for meat, dairy, processed foods, biofuels get disrupted Prices on global commodities skyrocket within days
Midwest soy and corn are essential animal feed globally Shortage = feed costs rise → meat production drops → meat prices rise Countries with major livestock industries (like China and the EU) are heavily dependent on U.S. feed
U.S. corn is a major source of ethanol Soybeans contribute to biodiesel Global fuel markets (especially in countries blending biofuels) would see ripple effects Could marginally raise oil and fuel prices, adding to inflation
The Midwest is a global breadbasket. Shutting it off would cause: Domestic food crises Massive price inflation Economic and legal chaos Global food instability Countries that rely on imports (e.g., Egypt, Mexico, China, Japan) face immediate price pressures Export-reliant developing countries would struggle to afford imports Food riots or subsidy crises could erupt in fragile economies
What happened? The humble timeline: -Large-scale riots break out in multiple Midwestern cities/rural hubs over political demand (e.g., removal of the President Trump). Violence targets state capitols and government buildings. -Local law enforcement overwhelmed in some counties; some state legislatures/governors temporarily cut off from normal operations. -White House issues emergency statements calling for calm; DOJ, FBI open investigations; FEMA and -DHS put response teams on alert. -Port and rail disruptions begin locally (silos, loading facilities blocked). Initial hoarding starts in nearby urban areas.
-Insurgents seize state capitol buildings in multiple states, detain or physically prevent elected officials and senior administrators from performing duties (described in your scenario as “imprisoned”). -This is an overt illegal seizure of government; it triggers immediate federal criminal jurisdiction (kidnapping, sedition, insurrection). -Emergency courts and DOJ prepare warrants and notices. -Governors of neighboring/other states activate National Guards under state control; the President consults with Defense Department and DOJ about invoking federal military authority. -National shock; major protests both supporting and opposing the rioters; financial markets become volatile. -Major export terminals and elevators are blockaded. Food processors begin operating at reduced capacity; livestock feed deliveries start to be disrupted.
the midwest insists they will only rejoin america and continue exports if the government is reformed. This means they will force the world to wait until the current trump administration is out of office and its effects have been reversed. The Midwest isn’t just isolating—they’re using their food and economic power as leverage to enforce political reform in the US.
The Trump administration faces unprecedented pressure as food shortages hit US cities.
Congress, governors, and states may pressure the administration to act or negotiate reform.
Civil Unrest Grows:
Urban centers reliant on Midwestern food experience rationing or shortages, causing protests and riots.
States sympathetic to the Midwest may publicly support their demands, creating political division.
Economic Paralysis:
Industries reliant on Midwest agriculture (food processing, meatpacking, logistics) collapse or operate at minimal capacity.
Inflation and unemployment spike, increasing political pressure on the administration.
Their influence is now institutionalized: the federal government must consider the Midwest’s interests in major policy decisions.
Governments quietly urge US reform, realizing the Midwest’s demands indirectly stabilize Europe.
Asian Diplomatic channels attempt to influence US politics to satisfy the Midwest.
Governments recognize that the Midwest now has unprecedented leverage, essentially dictating US domestic policy and influencing global stability.
Nations push the US government to reform faster, using global hunger as leverage.
Allies may threaten sanctions, economic measures, or political isolation of the federal government to force compliance.
The midwest starts having a standoff because hell yeah. Many see it as holding the country hostage.
Statement from the Midwest: “We are not leaving America. America left us when it stopped listening to the people who feed it. We will trade fairly, openly, and with whoever respects our right to prosperity. No one in Washington signs our harvests. We do. Our message to every worker, immigrant, and family who calls the Midwest home: You are safe here. You belong here. And no one, no agency, no politician, will tell us otherwise. The Midwest believes in fairness, hard work, and mutual respect. Our farmers do not check birth certificates in the fields. Our factories do not ask for papers before a shift starts. We measure people by their effort, their honesty, and their willingness to stand shoulder-to-shoulder when it’s time to work.“
Aka heavily Anti-ICE and is chasing them out of the Midwest.

The meeting room was tense as they waited for the special guests to arrive. China was tapping his foot as Britain practically drowned himself in tea. Canada and France were whispering lowly as German, Japan, and Italy stared down the door. Russia stood in a corner, scowling at his phone. Everyone was uptight, a small noise away from the tension bursting. The florescent lights added to the stifling atmosphere, the low buzz ringing in their ears. The air was nearly unbreathable, though perhaps it was just everyone holding their breaths...
The door creaks open and in marches America... followed by the people they were most interested to see. The midwestern states, all scowling and looking like they’d rather not be here. You stand amongst them, as one of the states, bitterly glaring at everyone. It had been years since your last public appearances, years since you began holding food hostage to force a government reform and screwing over the global food market and economy while you were at it. This affected not just the US, but the world as tons of food was cut off. And now it was time to talk, and negotiate.
America: “I managed to wrangle the midwestern states here. It’s finally time to talk, kids.”

You and the other Midwestern states had been receiving... letters from other countries for a long time, asking to ditch America and become their territory instead. Well... it went from letters to texts and emails and voicemails and... well the point is, you’ve been contacted by many countries since you joined the Union. Probably because you and your siblings produce absurd amounts of food that anyone with sense would want under their control, but... yeah. It can get pretty annoying, you’ve blocked so many numbers and they just don’t seem to stay blocked... whatever, they’re just jealous countries trying to one-up America. You’re not considering any of their offers.
At least, that’s what you would have thought a few years ago. Turns out, America (the country, not your father) kinda sucks! Reminds you of the conditions the Civil war started under. Minus the enslavement of black people but... still! Bad! Awful! That’s how you find yourself sitting in your room with the other Midwestern states, glumly scrolling through your phone. Even social media is filled with the glum news of more deportations, more ethnic cleansing in Gaza, more bullshit tariffs, more more more and more bad news. Ugh...
You sighed and were about to put your phone down when you received a call, your phone ringing.
