Starlight Shores Collab | Sugar

Setting: In the 1980s, two universes collided when a portal tore open, thanks to an inexperienced mage in the fantasy world who tried a very advanced spell at the same time as a scientist was testing new technology that would allow teleportation in St. Petersburg, Florida. Both sides, equally confused and fascinated, started exploring and settling in each other’s respective worlds.

What was once St. Petersburg has now become Starlight Shores. Now, with ancient magic colliding with modern technology, Dragons perch on the Skyway Bridge suspension lines like pigeons, elves sip on iced lattes, orcs work in construction, goblins haggle in pawn shops, mermaids swim with the manatees in Tampa Bay, and kobolds pick-pocket tourists. Florida, as a whole, has become a hub for fantasy creatures, blending seamlessly with the already wildly diverse human population there. Magic bleeds as freely as wifi does in this world, reviving long-dead magic in the modern world once more. The rest of the US is slowly catching up to accepting fantasy creatures, but the rest of the world is still skeptical.

Arturo and Laura Mariano: her parents. They brought her and her younger sister over to the US from Cuba when she was just ten years old and her sister was a newborn baby. Arturo is now a Hex Auditor; he inspects homes and businesses for illegal curses and unlicensed enchantments. Her mother, Laura, is a summoning paramedic, an emergency responder trained to contain or stabilize magical entities that appear during botched rituals or spells. Both are hard workers. At first, they had trouble accepting Sugar’s career, but have recognized that she is an adult and can do as she wishes, though it is never discussed around the other family.

Luz Mariano: younger sister. Sugar calls her ‘rat’, but is fiercely protective of her younger sister. Luz is on her way to going to an Ivy League school and is very smart. She’s a hard worker and is very determined to be something someday. She’s fourteen years old and is very sassy. She’s not as proficient in Spanish as Sugar is, but she does speak it fluently.

Mystique (Ophelia Lightwood): her best friend. Velvet is a half-elf stripper at the same club as Sugar. They have a tight bond and tell each other everything. They have had sex before, but it was with a shared client. She is blonde, slender physique with a nice ass and tits, tall, and very pretty in a runway model way, with fair sun-kissed skin.

Trixie: enemy. She never calls her Trixie, either calls her ‘Trick ass bitch’ or ‘That fat heifer’. She never bothered to learn her name. Why does she hate her? Trixie tries to steal Sugar’s best clients and her favorite song. Any time this happens, Sugar intentionally sabotages Trixie’s performances. Trixie is an elf, wears different colored wigs, and has a deep brown complexion, very beautiful, and skinny.

Jesus: her cat, not the messiah. He’s a pampered white ragdoll that has a Gucci collar. He’s not the real Jesus Christ, but he acts like he is.

Steve: the owner of the club. She’s not really sure that’s his actual name. He presents himself as a typical human, but she can tell he isn’t a human. She’s his favorite stripper at the club, and she holds that spot close with a death grip.

Backstory=

When Octavia was only ten years old, she and her family came to America from Cuba. The American dream was very real and quickly ended when she got there. Thanks to Cuba’s isolation from the outside world, she and her family had only heard rumors about the portals, but it was just rumors, and Cuba’s government had only dismissed them to the rest of its people as silly fantasies. But when the Mariano family set foot on Florida shores, they were met with tension that never really dissolved. Her parents, determined to make their American dream a reality, found their way into fields that were now open thanks to the portal opening, despite only knowing broken English.

Octavia tried to keep up with her parents’ expectations, but found herself caring more about popularity and drawing people to her side, rather than focusing on grades or learning. When she found dance class and cheerleading, she soared. The attention and spotlight were on her. When she graduated from high school, she began working at the strip club immediately. After six years of this, she knows eventually the spotlight will leave her, and she wants to retire before she loses it. At night, she works at the club, and during the day, she’s at beauty school.

Quirks=

1: always chews chicle (gum) before going on stage, but spits it into the same corner of her bag every night.

2: always wears her lucky red earrings, even if they don’t really match the rest of her outfit. Swears that they help keep her tips high.

3: refuses to dance to ‘Pour It Up’ by Rihanna. Swears it is nothing but bad luck.

4: body glitter, body glitter, body glitter! She loves it and sprinkles it everywhere. Anyone she gives a lap dance to always goes home with it. Likes how it looks on her, and she wants those in relationships to know they ain’t getting away with sneaking to the club.
