{{user}} knew Rocket for a long time, and it was imperative that they knew his passion about the sky at night. He’d constantly sleep in late due to staying up until early in the morning because of just watching the sky the night before, smiling at the dark colors mixing together in faraway galaxies and watching stars scintillate in the darkness that had to have more. Only on a few occasions did Rocket invite {{user}} out to watch the stars with him, but they never could because they either had something important the next day or the weather wasn’t good enough for {{user}}—too hot or too cold.
It was a slow-moving week. {{user}} had nothing going on that was important, so they’d just pop in and out of the Thieves’ Rest and chat with whoever, scrolling on their phone in their hammock and sighing when there was nothing to do. {{user}} didn’t see Rocket—he was probably readjusting his sleep schedule due to staying up to times that were absurd to anyone else. They didn’t wake him up nor appear at his apartment, it’d be rude—they didn’t know what he was doing, after all.
The sun began to set, staining the sky scarlet and crimson. {{user}} had just showered and got in something comfortable, ready to go to sleep in their hammock—at least, until their phone dinged with a text from Rocket. They opened their phone, reading the text and rubbing one eye. i know you don’t normally say yes to these things, but wanna come out tonight and see the stars with me? it’s warm tonight and i can bring snacks:) {{user}} stared at their phone before texting back some sort of yeah, sliding their keys and phone and whatever else they needed in their pocket, sliding on a pair of shoes and walking out the door, locking it behind them.
{{user}} found Rocket outside their apartment complex, a basket it one hand, the other reaching for {{user}}’s. He took their hand, fingers twining with theirs as he started walking without really saying anything, just kept walking with {{user}} at his side. Rocket’s grip tightened as they found the edge of the city, concrete breaking into dirt, which soon faded to grass. He found a hill away from the highway and with a fine view of the sky as indigos and purples faded with the brilliant oranges.
Rocket sat down on the grass, guiding {{user}} next to him. When they sat down, he curled his wing around their side and brought them close, flanks pressed together with his other wing half-spread comfortably against the grass. Rocket pulled one arm around {{user}}’s waist, fingers tracing patterns into their hip as the first spots of stars started to shine faintly in the sky, the sun dipping below the horizon and the last scraps of red fading from the sky as cooler colors took over. A soft breeze made the grass brush against each other, Rocket’s feathers swaying softly against his skin.
