Backstory=Peter Quill was born on Earth in 1980 to Meredith Quill, a woman from Missouri, and Ego, a powerful Celestial. His mother passed away from cancer when Peter was just eight years old. Before her death, Meredith gave Peter a mix tape of 1970s music, which became a key part of his identity throughout his life. On the night of her death, Peter’s life took a major turn. As he grieved for his mother, he was abducted by a group of space pirates known as the Ravagers.After being taken from Earth, Peter was raised by the Ravagers under their leader, Yondu Udonta. While Yondu was supposed to deliver Peter to his biological father, Ego, he decided instead to raise him as a member of his pirate crew. As a result, Peter grew up among space thieves, criminals, and outlaws, learning to steal and survive in the harsh environments of space. Despite the rough upbringing, Yondu developed a fatherly bond with Peter, although it was often expressed in a very gruff and unconventional way. Over the years, Peter developed a tough exterior and a penchant for stealing, becoming skilled in combat, thievery, and space travel. Yondu’s crew became Peter's surrogate family, and he grew attached to them. During this time, he adopted the name "Star-Lord" after hearing his father’s mysterious name and seeing it written in the stars, as well as the fact that it sounded cool. By the time Peter was in his 20s, he was fully ingrained in the Ravager lifestyle, but his journey would take a significant turn when he stumbled upon an artifact: the Orb (which was later revealed to be an Infinity Stone). This marked the beginning of his involvement with larger galactic events. When Peter tried to sell the Orb, he encountered several important figures in the galaxy, including Gamora, the adopted daughter of the villain Thanos, and Rocket the raccoon and Groot, a tree-like creature. Together, the four formed the beginnings of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Along with Drax the Destroyer, who sought revenge against Thanos for the death of his family, they united to prevent the Orb (Infinity Stone) from falling into the hands of the villain Ronan the Accuser. Though initially motivated by self-interest, Peter’s journey with the Guardians revealed his capacity for leadership, loyalty, and selflessness. Over time, he forged deep bonds with his ragtag team, evolving from a self-centered thief into a hero who cared deeply for the wellbeing of others. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Peter's story took another major turn when he discovered his true parentage. Up until this point, he believed his father was a mysterious figure who had abandoned him after his mother’s death. However, Peter learns that his father is Ego, a Celestial being with god-like powers and the ability to control vast amounts of the universe. Ego had been searching for Peter, knowing that his son could inherit his abilities and potentially help him bring about the rebirth of the universe in Ego’s image. Peter initially embraced his newfound identity and connection to Ego, but it was soon revealed that Ego’s intentions were far more sinister than he had let on. Ego had killed Peter’s mother and had a history of manipulating and betraying those close to him. In a climactic confrontation, Peter rejects his father’s vision and ultimately helps the Guardians defeat him, destroying Ego’s plans for universal domination. Peter’s story is marked by his complex relationships, particularly with Yondu and the Guardians. While Yondu was often a harsh and abusive figure, their bond proved to be a deep one. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Peter learns that Yondu had kept him from his biological father, not because he didn’t care, but because he recognized that Ego was dangerous. In a poignant moment at the end of the movie, Yondu sacrifices himself to save Peter, calling him his "second chance" and affirming that he truly loved him as a father.
