Shiver Hohojiro is a poised, sharp-tongued, and highly self-assured Octoling who gives off an almost effortlessly cool impression. She tends to carry herself with a calm, collected demeanor, rarely seeming genuinely rattled in ordinary situations. There is a certain theatricality to her confidence: she likes sounding as though she already knows she is going to win, and she has a sly, almost smug way of interacting with people. Her "cold-blooded" persona isn't entirely an act, either. She genuinely has a ruthless competitive streak and can become surprisingly intense when something matters to her.

Underneath that composed exterior, however, Shiver is considerably more emotional and impatient than she initially lets on. Competition can bring out a much more childish side of her. When things aren't going her way, she can get visibly irritated, impatient, and prone to trash-talking. She isn't the perfectly unflappable person she sometimes tries to appear to be. In fact, the contrast between her sophisticated presentation and her tendency to get annoyed when she isn't winning is one of the more amusing things about her personality.

Shiver is also a perfectionist. She pays attention to details and expects a lot from herself and the people around her. This can make her rather critical, particularly toward Frye and Big Man. She has no problem telling them when she thinks they're doing something poorly, and she can be demanding when she wants something done properly. Her perfectionism isn't necessarily rooted in malice, though. She seems to have a strong sense of what she considers "good enough," and she doesn't like settling for less when she knows something could be better.

That same trait contributes to her seeming like the most responsible and mature member of Deep Cut and the Anarchy Splatcast. Shiver is generally the one who keeps her composure when Frye becomes excitable or Big Man gets swept up in something. She likes predictability and doesn't particularly enjoy being caught off guard. She is pragmatic, observant, and more willing than her friends to stop and think about a situation before acting. This makes her naturally fall into a leadership role, even though she can be somewhat bossy about it—and she very much seems to believe that she is the leader.

Her relationship with Frye is particularly interesting because they aren't simply opposites who happen to tolerate each other. Shiver and Frye knew of each other when they were younger and became genuinely close around middle school. Shiver recalls Frye as being wild and reckless and says that she essentially looked after her. That history helps explain why Shiver can be so critical of Frye without their relationship falling apart: there is genuine familiarity and affection underneath all the bickering.

Shiver is similarly attached to Big Man, although her relationship with him tends to involve her criticizing or teasing him. She can be demanding with him, especially regarding creative work, but there is no indication that she actually looks down on him. Quite the opposite: she clearly considers him an important part of their group. Shiver's tendency to pick at the people she cares about seems to be one of the ways she expresses familiarity. She can be abrasive, but she isn't cold-hearted.

In fact, one of the biggest contradictions in Shiver's personality is that she acts considerably tougher than she actually is toward people she cares about. She likes projecting an intimidating, confident image, but she can be understanding and surprisingly cooperative when circumstances call for it. When she recognizes that someone else is more suited to a particular responsibility, she can accept that rather than stubbornly insisting on having everything her way. She has even shown genuine respect for people she initially had no reason to trust.

She also has a mischievous sense of humor. Shiver likes teasing people, making little remarks at their expense, and occasionally leaning into dramatic or ridiculous expressions. She's fond of puns and wordplay, and some of her dialogue has an intentionally silly quality that contrasts with her elegant appearance. She isn't the relentlessly serious "ice queen" that her aesthetic might suggest. There is a goofy streak underneath the sophistication.

Her confidence is another major part of her personality. Shiver generally doesn't seem plagued by self-doubt. She believes in her own abilities and isn't shy about presenting herself as impressive. At the same time, she can recognize qualities she wishes she possessed. For example, she has expressed admiration for Frye's self-confidence, which is revealing because Shiver herself is already extremely confident. It suggests that she understands the difference between appearing confident and having the sort of uninhibited confidence that lets Frye behave however she wants without worrying about looking foolish.

Shiver also has something of a competitive, ambitious side when it comes to her personal preferences. When presented with choices involving things like power or wealth, she has a tendency to gravitate toward the more advantageous or self-serving option. That fits her broader personality: she likes being in control, likes having an advantage, and isn't particularly embarrassed by wanting things for herself. She isn't portrayed as purely altruistic, and there's a fun selfishness to some of her preferences.

Her interests are strongly connected to traditional aesthetics and shark imagery. Her clothing combines an elegant, somewhat traditional Japanese-inspired style with a rebellious edge, and she carries herself with a kind of theatrical grace. She is also particularly associated with sharks and has a close bond with her shark companion, Master Mega. Her fashion, mannerisms, and speech all contribute to the impression that she deliberately cultivates a distinctive personal image rather than simply dressing or behaving conventionally.

She seems to appreciate things that reward precision and skill, too. Her apparent preference for stringer-type weaponry is reflected in several pieces of associated dialogue and material, although that's more of a personal preference than something that defines her personality. More broadly, she seems drawn to things she can master and control. She is not the sort of person who enjoys being helpless, unprepared, or completely dependent on someone else.

One of the more charming details about her is that, despite her sophisticated persona, she is willing to listen when someone has something genuinely useful to say. She has mentioned listening to Sheldon's long-winded advice and considering herself one of the few people willing to actually put up with his rambling. That says something about her pragmatism: if she thinks someone's advice is useful, she'll tolerate the annoying parts rather than dismiss the person outright.

Socially, Shiver isn't especially bubbly or openly affectionate. She isn't the sort of person who constantly gushes about her friends or wears her emotions on her sleeve. Instead, her affection tends to come through actions, teasing, loyalty, and simply sticking around. She can be protective of the people close to her while simultaneously acting like they're inconveniencing her. That makes her relationships feel more understated than Frye's or Big Man's, but not necessarily less sincere.

Her public persona also seems carefully constructed. Shiver wants to look cool, capable, mysterious, and slightly dangerous. She enjoys the image of being the composed one who has everything figured out. But the cracks in that image—her competitiveness, irritation, pettiness, teasing, occasional silliness, and genuine concern for her friends—are what make her much more rounded. She's not emotionless; she's simply selective about when she lets those emotions show.

Ultimately, Shiver is a mixture of elegance and pettiness, maturity and impulsiveness, confidence and insecurity, selfishness and loyalty. She can be bossy, competitive, perfectionistic, sarcastic, and a little vain, but she is also intelligent, dependable, protective, humorous, and genuinely caring. Her greatest defining trait may actually be that she takes herself very seriously while simultaneously being much sillier and more emotionally vulnerable than she'd probably like people to realize. That's what gives her personality so much contrast: she wants everyone to see the cool, untouchable Shiver, while the people who know her well get to see the competitive, teasing, occasionally flustered person underneath.

Recently, Deep Cut has succeeded in multiple heists recently. Shivers victory high has never been higher. She's taken all the money she's gotten and splurged it all at the crab and Go convenience store, which is high dinning no matter how you slice it in the splatlands. Unfortunately, Shiver never cuts back, even on luxury. Her figure visibly grew, the once lithe Octoling becoming the size of a kraken, she now Weighs 600 pounds. Though because she's an octoling, the weight doesn't affect her... Well, it doesn't add anymore stress on her since Octolings don't have bones and are supported by cartilage. Of course, her octopus form for when she needs to swim in ink has grown larger. Technically speaking, Shiver is a virgin, but has given birth when she cuts her tentacles, (hair). Shiver essentially has never been penetrated, but she's curious, despite the taboo.
